    Report on-board Amatheia

    Jack's Stag day,
This was a hard days fishing as the weather was not on our side, but the lads made the most of it and our day started out at anchor on a deep water mark which produces a nice bass of around 10lbs plus some small tope, smoothound, Ray's and doggies, as the tide eased with made our way out to some nearby wrecks where we managed to find a couple of cod and some pollock before heading home, I would like to thank the lads for all the work they put in on a day when the fishing was not made easy by the weather

    Report on-board Kelley's Hero Charters

So, Kelley’s Hero has been on a variety of trips since the last blog. We have had days inshore where it has been flat calm, and some days offshore which were as slow as anything.

The wrecking trips we have been on have been hard work recently, with each trip getting harder and harder, and the fish getting further away. When the weather eventually let us out on the wrecks, we have had to end our day on the Bass to save ourselves. Even though when we finally found the cod and the pollack they were a nice size etc and in good condition.

When we fished inshore over the last few weeks, we have struggled to find any mackerel for our bait, but thanks to our friends the hardback crab, we have managed to find a few smoothounds Among the other species such as rays, bream, tope and wrasse. As the tides have been building, during the tide run we have headed out to try and bag a few bass. This has worked nicely with our customers. The bass we are seeing on board have all been on avaerage 5lb.

As it is now nearly the end of July, we thought it would be a good time to go and try and catch some Plaice. We took our first trip last Friday, and well what can we say, we found our first spots of the year. The plaice are in very good condition and fighting fit.

And at last we can now announce the mackerel seem to have arrived. About time is all we can say.
Kelley’s Hero has now been out of the water and blasted off, ready to go and catch some more plaice, bass, mackerel and whatever else it is you are after.
Please take a look at our schedule and see when we are available to get you out fishing.

  • 11/07/2016 Fishing Report by Ian Dale on Kelley's Hero Charters (Gosport, Hampshire)

    Report on-board Kelley's Hero Charters

So, the 1st July was the big day that everybody was waiting for it seems. It meant it was now legal for our anglers to keep one bass per person. And we were itching for the weather to be good enough so we could at least get out there and try and get ourselves those silver bars.

We didn’t have to wait long, as the weather soon gave us a chance on the 6th to head straight out there. There were only 4 of us on board fishing, but this was great. Once we had left the harbour, we decided as it was so flat, we were going to go wrecking first instead. What a great idea that was, so we all tackled up ready to see if we could catch any pollack.

Arriving at the wreck, it was clear to see that there were fish all over it on the sounder. We all got excited and lined ourselves up for the first drift. The first drift produced a pollack of around 16lb. What a lovely fish. The next few drifts were just as good with the average stamp of pollack being around 13lb mark.

It was then time to look for those Billys, and we didn’t fail there either, the best bass of the day was 12lb 7oz when weighed on board, (unfortunately it had lost weight throughout the day, and weighed 11lb 4oz once back on shore). There must have been at least 20 bass landed between the four of us and even though we could have kept 1 fish each we decided to return all but one. Once the tide wasn’t in the favour of the bass, we then went back to looking for some more pollack.

After a few more drifts and more pollack, it was time to head back to the marina, clean down and put the boat to bed. Kelley’s Hero ended up with around about 50 pollack and 20 bass , and what a lovely stamp of fish they were, all in great condition and fighting fit. We can’t wait to head back out and get some more.

  • 09/07/2016 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

    Report on-board Duke IV

As summer progresses the Skate have finished their breeding for the year and they have moved off the breeding ground turning up all over but with numbers caught reduced although some reaching mid double size. They still go for the fish bait but as the herring have moved off they prefer a mackerel chunk. The Smoothounds are here now but not in the numbers we would like but the larger ones make up for the numbers with the rip roaring fight they put up. Most angler's prefer to release them although they are good eating.
When the sea calms and the water clears the feathers work for the school Bass and Mackerel. Still some dates inc weekends are available. Pic shows Tim wrestling a nice Hound prior to release.

    Report on-board Lady Ann

A fairly regular day with the usual plague of Dogfish and small Skate, when the tide slackened a bit all of a sudden
Stephen Hayes caught fire, in quick succession he was into a 14.1 Skate, a cracking Bass, and a very decent Smoothie.
As you can see he was well chuffed. Stephens Skate is the current leader for Fish of the Month and a Lady Ann polo shirt.
All the other anglers caught as well, all in all a good days fishing.
