    Report on-board Amatheia

Saturday we headed east to visit wrecks I had not fish since early 2015, first drift produced pollock in there ones and two and this was to be the pattern for the rest of the day, the tide never got away which made the fishing hard as plenty of fish were show over the wrecks but not actively feeding the angler persisted and at the end of the trip there was plenty of fish to take home for all. Sunday we headed south into much deeper water which gave us better tide run and the fishing was constant with a good catch being shared between the anglers, so a big thanks to the angler who came aboard AMatheia over this weekend and look forward to see you again

Fishing report by Stuart Cross on Valkerie

Me my Dad and my son Andrew [aka mini me] had a good bash at some Pollock on Friday with Zac. He had a very sore throat, so Dave the crewman had to sing for him as the wreck came up. Its only Andrews second time wrecking so I showed him once more how to drop retrieve and drop again. Second wind up one 12lb Pollock to Andrew followed by a massive grin. When the score sheet read Bri 4 Andrew 4 me 0 I was getting twitchy. ‘Can I have a go with your rod?’ Andrew asked. Now they were on identical reels and I stupidly opted for the faster retrieve reel due to the low neap tide. ‘He’s got 4’ I thought ‘this will let me catch up’. Stupid me - 2 doubles on two drifts to Andrew and I’m still fishless. Zac is now grinning just as much as Andrew and Bri - its not going well. Andrew then topped it off with telling me [so that everyone could hear] that ‘I could reel in the next one he caught’ which by the way was a bass [returned] the only one of the day.
The fish were high on slack 30 -40 turns coming right down to the bottom as the tide was in mid flow. Scores Bri 7, Andrew 7 plus the bass including 4 doubles. I came third, stop laughing Glen it’s not funny. All in all it was a great day with a nice bunch of chaps, I’m now taking up knitting- until next time!

It may have been April fools day but we caught plenty of Skate today along with Whiting and Dogs. The sun shone and the wind dropped at last. The crabs will be peeling soon which will bring in the Hounds so plenty to fish for in the coming weeks. Still dates available including weekends so come on down, the fishings good! Pic shows Rogers group with part of today's catch.

Some good Plaice about in the murky seas. Exotic baits work and some patience helps too. They move through in waves but as the sea is murky and having tested both methods well, anchoring with good bait is best. Drifting doesn't work great at the moment and last weekends storms and heavy downpours wouldn't have helped the sea clear.

  • 28/03/2016 Fishing Report by Les Jones on White Maiden II (Lymington, Hampshire)

28 Mar 2016 by Les Jones

    Report on-board White Maiden II

A very happy Easter to all. We are now ready and raring to go, following my annual White Maiden maintenance work and routine. First proper trip back was on Good Friday when in the morning we found a dozen Plaice to 2lb. In the afternoon the guys wanted to go deep, which happened to be when the breeze got up and we found mainly Dogs and the odd Pout on their massive and speculative baits.

A good day for the time of year, weather and tide stopped us from getting out for the Blonde rays and Spurs, but still plenty of fish for everybody.
On the last drops I took the pool with an 8 pound.Thoraback, followed seconds later by a 6 and half pound Cod for George the codfather.
Cheers Rob, looking forward to the next one

  • 23/03/2016 Fishing Report by Bryan McNeil on Kelley's Hero Charters (Gosport, Hampshire)

23 Mar 2016 by Bryan McNeil

    Report on-board Kelley's Hero Charters

As usual a last minute booking (23rd March) due to a break in the weather did not disappoint with skipper Ian on Kelly's Hero.
An early season wreck fishing was the agenda for the day with Pollock being the main target and perhaps some early cod.
As usual Ian did not dissapoint putting us over 4 different wrecks that all produced good pollock up to 15lb with the only reason for moving being Ian is like a dog with a bone and would not stop searching for the first early cod.
We spent 12 hrs on the water with Ian only stopping once we had all run out of steam and the boxes were full not many skippers would put as many hours in as Ian. Mind you Dennis put in a few hours filleting bless him.
As usual tea/coffee was plentiful as was the usual banter onboard this very friendly boat.
I have been fishing with Ian for 3 years and he never fails to teach me something, either I'm a slow learner or Ian knows a lot, I think I know which one it is.
My recommendation is to always give the skipper a ring even at short notice and he will sort out a trip for you.
Thanks Ian yet again another great day.
    Bryan McNeil
