Report on-board Duke IV
It's a cold breezy day but the Skate are coming thick and fast, herring being the bait today. The gulls are chasing the sprats with the Cod underneath them pushing them to the surface. When the sprats move off the Cod will return to bottom feeding giving us a better chance of action although the Skate are fighting fit and making for great fishing for now. Dont miss out on the fish fest off Ramsgate now! Pic shows part of today's catch

Report on-board Kelley's Hero Charters
Well that was a shock to the system, no not the freezing cold weather, the fact that Kelley’s Hero made it to sea two days in a row. And what a lovely two days of weather we had despite having to deice the boat in the mornings, with this view and the fish it was worth

Tuesday saw us leaving the marina with The Southsea Marina Disabled Angling Club, ready for there day cod fishing. They had been trying to get out for over a month but due to the weather it kept getting cancelled. It started off a bit chilly, with a bit of a swell. But we soon forgot about all that once the first cod came aboard. It was around 7lb. Throughout the day we had plenty of nice sized whiting, pout and 2 more cod upto 9lb. All in all we all had a great day and a good laugh. We can’t wait to get the club back aboard Kelley’s Hero in the future.
On Wednesday, the weather had calmed down to not much wind and a little bit of a chill. Kelley’s Hero headed out for the first wrecking trip of the season. We had 6 good anglers on board all eager to see what the day had in store for us. There wasn’t tonnes of pollack, but just enough to keep us busy and warm. The biggest fish of the day was caught by Matt, and weighed 12lb. John got a nice surprise when he reeled in a nice Tub gurnard, there many caught throughout the day, but his was the biggest. Now, what is the last thing you expect to see in January in the freezing cold?! Well we caught a Mackerel, just one though, yes we were all shocked too. My overall thought on our first wrecking trip of the season, is that if we leave it a few weeks yet the fishing will come on a bit more, but it was nice see a few pollack starting to show already.
If you would like to book a day aboard Kelley’s Hero, whether it is inshore or offshore please feel free to contact me.

Today was hard work for the lads on the boat with a choppy sea and a bitterly cold ENE wind, but with a resolute determination the rewards of fish being boated was only a matter of time, 4 cod between 4-7lbs, a couple of nice rays, small congers, plenty of doggies and some nice whiting of which one went over 3lbs.

Here’s what happened on Kelley’s Hero II during 2015……….
To start the year we had a very busy wrecking season with some very nice Pollock to 19lb, cod to 21lb, and bass to 10lb. It was one of the best wrecking seasons for cod that we have had for a good few years now, with over a hundred cod being caught on most days and only a few taken for the table. This did mean that it wasn’t as easy to get to the Pollock however i don’t think anyone grumbled due to the amount of cod coming aboard. Lets hope 2016’s wrecking season is as productive.
Once we reached August and the wrecking started to slow down a bit, we were looking for more of a variety on our day trips. What we started with was inshore fishing for Plaice with a little bit of drifting for bass when the tide allowed. These trips proved very popular with the biggest plaice coming aboard weighing over 3lb, and a lot of them, as well as many bass between 3lb and 9lb. We did have a nice surprise run of Brill also with the biggest weighing 6lb. There may have only been one of these trips cancelled due to the run of nice weather we managed to get in August.
In September, we decided to try something new for Kelley’s Hero and head out Sole fishing in the evenings. The first trip we managed to boat 7 Sole, and 11 red mullet. This wasn’t bad for a first trip with the red mullet being a personal best to every angler and also the boat record. Don’t worry though, if you are interested in catching either of these, we will be doing this trips again this year.
The we started with our winter cod season, with our first trip heading out on 9th October. We had 3 cod on this trip which was nice to see, we also landed rays, gurnard and the biggest mackerel of the year which was also a new club record. Over the rest of the month we had an average of 4 cod per trip, weighing between 2lb and 15lb. The whiting that were caught were all a very nice size, unlike the year before.
November saw us cancelling almost every trip and we only managed to get out 5 times, but due to the weather on a few of these we were forced to fish The Solent. The Solent produced some nice healthy cod and a steady flow of whiting along with the normal species of rays, conger and dogfish.
Unfortunately December was even worse than November meaning that we only got 2 day trips and 1 evening trip in. All three trips produced 2-3 cod per trip along with some nice small eyed rays, undulate rays and some chunky congers.
One last thing before I go……
The new Bass law: For those of you who are not aware, for the first 6 months of 2016 there is a 100% catch and release for all recreational bass fisherman. And in the second half of the year there is a 1 fish bag limit per angler. We do hope this won’t affect our customers and that you will still be interested in coming fishing on Kelley’s Hero, especially after the success of the last years plaice/bass trips. Lets turn this situation into a positive and lets add more variety to our trips. Please feel free to get in touch if you would like any more information.
Until then….

Report on-board Amatheia
A lull in the weather, a quick call to some of my regulars and the trip is on, such a pleasure to be back out on the boat and what great day awaited us, heading out east from Portsmouth harbour to a spot close to the Nab Tower, we found ourselves into the fish moments after dropping the anchor. With conger eels making a show first followed by a couple of nice cod of 8lb and 10lb, more eels and the first of a dozen spurdog of which half of them going double figures with the best at 18lbs, in amongst the spurdog came a double figures undulate ray, a couple of small whiting, until Colin landed a beauty of 3lb 5oz, a thornback ray and spotted ray were also boated along with plenty of doggies and more conger eels and then to finish of an already good day Mick boated a cracking cod of 28lbs, all spurdog were female and returned alive

Report on-board Skerry Belle
The fishing should be spectacular now off the coast of Ramsgate, all through the months of January, February, March and April. The cod fishing will be superb. The herring and sprat Scholes have now moved offshore. So with the cod putting on extra weight feeding on these, the fish should be much larger than last year. Averaging the 6-8lb bracket and definitely a chance of a large double. With this and the skate fishing on the Goodwins where we have seen fish up to 15lb. And over 25 fish a trip. It really should be a bumper few months. Remember all my trips include equipment and some baits and I can supply lug worm onboard so no need to worry about baits on any trip. Remember all trips include a qualified deckhand for your tuition. Children and Families more than welcome. Individuals from as little as £40 a head. Call me now on 07805250427 to book.

Top class fishing today with plenty of Whiting along with 8 Skate to Richards group from Maidstone Kent. Herring being the top bait. The Cod are here but feasting on the herring that are everywhere for now. They should be thinning out soon so we will get more Cod as they return to more bottom feeding, fingers crossed we don't get too much spratt this winter. Plenty of space available in the new year for groups or individuals so give me a call. Pic shows Darrens best Skate of the day just short of 10lb
