    Report on-board Duke IV

The fishing just gets better out from Ramsgate. On today's trip Craigs group landed Skate to 10lbs, Bass, hounds, and cod along with some tasty Whiting. Lugworm is the bait for Cod, in large lumps so don't skimp on the bait or they just pass it bye. Herring have arrived replacing Mackerel as the bait for Skate.  We were spoiled by the gorgeous weather today which helped the fishing. The Cod have arrived early this year and it looks like we are going to have a good winters fishing. The Skate are spread across the area, the strict quotas giving them protection are working and we are doing our bit by returning most of them we catch. Whiting numbers are up replacing the doggies as the most caught fish, the fillets l had this evening were superb, as good an eating fish as you will find so well worth keeping the bigger ones. Spaces still available for groups and individuals so dig out the winter jacket and come fishing.  This winter looks like it could be the best fishing for many years with plenty of quality fish out there!

    Report on-board Duke IV

The inshore fishing around Ramsgate is great at the moment with plenty of Skate, Whiting and Cod being caught, still Smoothound and Bass being landed. Catches of Skate remain good with up to 12 being landed aboard Duke IV. The Cod fishing is still patchy although the good numbers of Cod that have turned up so early in the year must be a good omen, we are hoping that this winter will be the best Cod season for many years with fish up to 8lb on the cards. Bait will get harder to find as the winter makes digging more difficult and the top cod bait is large lug bait so preorder the worm to avoid disappointment.
Pic shows Paul with a nice winter Bass. Still some weekend date's available so get in quickly with your bookings

  • 09/2015 Fishing Report by Rob Hickin on Sea-Juicer (Portsmouth, Hampshire)

    Sep 2015 by Rob Hickin

    Report on-board Sea-Juicer

The winter cod fishing has kicked into gear really early with some good catches of cod coming aboard from marks in the Solent on the smaller tides most fish are around the 4-7lb mark. & taking the usual squid /lug cocktail. but the odd nice Cod of up to 16lb turning up so very steady fishing Also nice to see a few reasonable whiting over the slack water period on baited feathers.
On bigger tides the new grounds are again the favorite for general fishing area with some good size bass up 10lb coming up along with a good selection of rays. But a few less cod but that should improve over the next few months .

Best day so far 17 cod for micks pub group with the biggest one 10lb

  • 09/2015 Fishing Report by Roger Lennon on Skerry Belle (Ramsgate, Kent)

    Sep 2015 by Roger Lennon

    Report on-board Skerry Belle

After a very successful Summer season on board Skerry Belle, we are now turning our attention to cod fishing around the North Foreland and Goodwin Sands. The first fish would be in the 4 - 8 lb bracket using local lugworm baits. There is still a chance of some very large Bass, and plenty of large channel Whiting which can sometimes top 3 - 4 lb. Thornback skate staying all year round, the Autumn and Winter months can easily be our best months, with over 100 fish a trip being not uncommon.

From January onwards the larger fish arrive, mainly falling to whole squid baits, live baits, and cuttlefish. Fish up to 20lb between January and March.

This is also a great time for the Spurdogs and large female Thornbacks. These are just a few of the fish that turn up off our shores of Ramsgate, but you are also likely to catch in plenty of Dabs, Whiting, Pouting, Dogfish, Pollock, and Plaice.

Please call the skipper now on 07805 250 427 for best tides and availability.

5 Sep 2015 by Alan Milford

Report on-board Moonstone - now Why Worry!

A mixed weekend of weather with Saturday being wet and windy and Sunday the complete opposite!
Saturday saw a couple of firsts on Moonstone....a nice blonde ray of nearly 20lb and a couple of good small eyed rays too.
The rest of the day was made up of bream, tope and smoothound.

Sunday with a regular crew we had a drift for some bass with live sandeels (Thanks Jason), but none landed. The cuttlefish seemed to love them though.
A move west brought undulate rays, some cracking hounds and a few small bream.

Back out asap for more of the same.

    Alan
