We were originally booked with our regular boat and skipper but due to technical problems he couldn't take us on our preferred date.
Our skipper spoke to Daniel and he kindly accommodated us at short notice.
After a late night the night before we were off at 6:30am.
Dan welcomed us aboard and gave us the low down on the boat and all of the safety equipment before we set off.....being a new boat to us this was very welcome.
We set off and steamed out to a mark about an hour from the harbour.
As soon as the anchor was down Dan sorted us all out with rods and helped us bait up and get fishing....plenty of bait was supplied and we were soon helping ourselves....although Dan was quick to assist when we got in a mess!
The fishing started off slow with a few bream and dogfish coming on board....but as soon as the tide turned we were into a good mix of fish.
We ended up with some nice skate, bream, smoothound and few mackerel for good measure.
A good days fishing had by all and rounded off by Dan helping us to clean the fish up to take home.
Many thanks for a great day out. -

Report on-board Warrior
August has come and gone in the blink of an eye, and I must admit, it has been a tough one.
View Boats Page
At the beginning of the month, the mackerel were showing an average of one per day, increasing to around 7-8 a day average by the end of the month. This made our half days a little more difficult. Thankfully, the harbour has produced a nice number of fish for us this summer and has saved the day on many occasions. Instead of drifting for mackerel for our trips we were anchoring up and finding a whole new variety of species for our beginners. We found ourselves relying on catching dogfish, smoothound and the odd ray amongst other species on most days.
Our full days gave a good opportunity to go further afield. This month has thrown a few nice fish our way including a 4 and half lb Brill, 26lb Blonde Ray, and lots of double figure bass, 12lb being the biggest. Of course this was a very welcoming sight and has made all the hard work pay off.
A few species that were a nice surprise in August were Gilthead Bream, Silver eel and Squid, all coming to worm Baits.
The best part of the last week has been the very welcoming sight of mackerel, with our best day being 95 in an hour, this was our best mackerel trip of the year so far. Also the amount of shoal bass that has turned up has been phenomenal and nice to see, giving us something to have a play with on our way in and out on trips.
Overall a very productive month considering the slow start we had. Our half days are now coming to an end, however they are still available on a charter basis, and throughout the October Half Term.

Report on-board Duke IV
The Belgium fishing club have just left to return home with their freezer quite full of fish, the majority of which were Skate along with Bass, Hounds, Whiting and Dogfish, apparently a favoured fish in Belgium.

The Mackerel are thinning out being replaced by Whiting so we know winter is on the way, the cooling water should bring in Codling along with Skate that are around in good numbers now.
Bass will be around until November as they migrate South to warmer water so plenty to catch, we just need the weather to stay fair to get out there after them and we are planning to keep fishing through the winter so call to book your trip.
Pic shows Skate for the Belgium boys!

Report on-board Skerry Belle
After a very successful summer, we will now be turning our attentions to cod fishing. The Goodwin sands and chalk ledges around the foreland are great areas to target early season fish. The first fish are around the 3-5lb bracket, with the larger fish arriving in October as they follow the whiting scholes inshore as the nights draw in. Large autumn bass will also be amongst them and live whiting fished on a flowing trace can often see bass up to 15lb come to the net. Large fresh lug baits, cuttle and whole squid will get you amongst the fish. Remember all top quality bait can be supplied to you onboard. Just ask when booking. To book a cod trip and for best tides, contact Roger direct to the boat on 07805250427 Tight lines and hope to see you onboard soon, Roger

Report on-board Duke IV
The rain is pouring down outside as I write, with todays trip cancelled. Yesterday though the weather was better and the Mackerel came in thick and fast. A few Skate inshore with a good chance of a large female on the cards.

Smoothounds will be heading out of the estuary on their migration back to deeper waters and we look to catching a few on squid or crab baits. Great fighting fish they are too having packed on the weight feeding on crab following breeding. Bass will also be heading back to deep water, with plenty passing Ramsgate. The Whiting are arriving now giving us lots of fish but not as large as some prefer, think of the small ones as fodder for the Bass and Cod so usefull in fattening up the better fish. Lots of small Codling through the summer so hoping for some a return of these fish in the 3-5lb range later in the year. Check out the the Lobsters we landed while backed up to a wreck last week, you never know what could come up next, such the magic of seafishing! -
