Report on-board White Maiden II
A lovely week (includin four Calshot Lifeboat Launches) was followed by a miserable weekend which looked OK for the Saturday Trident SAC crew. In reality the mist, drizzle and a building sea followed by proper rain and a lot of voracious dogfish made for a hard day for the keen regulars. It wasn't cold though and we were in the right places and you certainly can't catch anything sat at home! Bob managed to break through the dogfish for a decent Spotted Ray but there were far too many dogfish on the Ray marks.

A possible excuse for not catching, I believe, is that in a sloppy sea and shallow water (less than 45') the waves that bang the hulls increases the scare zone around the boat. Up-tiding is easy with long rods and fixed spool reels and is the best way to get out the scare zone. Otherwise working a very light lead well down tide is good. Or you could add a balloon to float your bait down tide, then jerk it free but in my opinion that can't be good for the environment and is basically littering the sea. Maybe a bit of wood will be more environmentally friendly (I'm serious about that).
Yesterday John Skeggs was on an early start and went 9 miles but as the tide and sea built they came back inside too. Out deep were Spurrs, Blondes and Congers! I'm looking forward to testing these banks on Thursday as we have a small tide and the promise of some decent weather. I still have 4 spaces at £50ppUPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD White Maiden II

Fishing Report by Bob Marshall
on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)
Apr 2014 by Bob Marshall
Report on-board Duke IV
Great sport with the Smoothounds now with Marcs group landing l5 last Saturday, Marcins group today had Hounds, Skate, Gurnard & chunky Whiting The Hounds have a particular taste for peeler crab bait, although we have been catching them on lug, herring and squid so the early birds are hungry and feeding on anything that's going!
View Boats Page
Plenty of Skate around now with a good chance of large catches, herring remains the bait of choice but a good chunk of squid often works well.
A few Bass being landed so hopefully more on the way, lug a good bait with hokkies and feathers good when the water clears. We are gearing up for the wreck fishing now with space available on 24th April.
This time of year can be seen as the pinnacle time for fishing with new fish arriving all the time whilst still plenty of quality Whiting and Codling still around!
Pic shows Peter with a tasty Gurnard
Roll on summer!!!

Report on-board White Maiden II
Last Monday we had a reasonable enough morning forecast to venture out for a decent fish on a small tide before the wind picked up as promised. The total catch ended with Congers of 40lb, 35lb, 23lb, 21lb 12lb, 7lb, 6lb and nothing else. So just Congers and some good fun was had by most. Pictured left is Simon with his 40lb'er expertly controlled to take a fiver from the other five anglers for the biggest fish.

Point of interest I have just completed my Professional Practices and Responsibilities course and passed the assessment. Actually it was very good and really worthwhile getting to grips again with the legislation around our boat work. The outcome for me is a more detailed safety brief and a request for signatures from the anglers to accept the risk before we cast off.
The PBA AGM last Wednesday was interesting too; another directive is in the pipeline for all newly built vessels to have accommodation quarters for crews if they intend to go over to France and the Channel Islands! Be warned, be aware and be a PBA member, their fighting fund is to support us in our professional roles.
This week Rays are showing well inshore. I have been busy with RNLI duties this week but if anyone wants a trip midweek I have dates and spaces, weekends are busy now with fishing charters.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD White Maiden II

Fishing Report by Dave Elliott
on Ocean Warrior 3 (Brighton, East Sussex)
Mar 2014 by Dave Elliott
Report on-board Ocean Warrior 3
This week has produced some big Pollock out on the deep water wrecks in the English Channel.
View Boats Page
John 'Chalky' White's crew had a good day on the Pollock and the biggest on the day was 16lb 4oz. The crew found that the sidewinder lures seemed to be producing the best results.
There are also Plaice and Whiting still showing on the inshore marks.
Looking forward to some better weather coming to get in some more good fishing in... -

Fine body of men from Heart's and Essex was on their first wreck trip on
Yellowfin,
The first Wreck of the day only gave us one Pollack so of over the horizon
we went. The next wreck was fishing much better, wind and tide pushing
us along at 1.5 knots over the wreck, the group started catching some nice
Pollack, on a mixture of lures Rhubarb & Custard colures worked the best,
Paul Crittell and son Steven had a fish fight, Farther beat son 6 fish to 1.
Best Fish of the day was caught by Paul, 13lb 8oz
All on boat had a good day, as you can see from the group picture. Thanks
Peter, Trevor, Steve, Paul, Dixie, Martin, Steve, Derek & Digger.

Fishing Report by Adam Shaw
on Warrior (Chichester, West Sussex)
16 Mar 2014 by Adam Shaw
Report on-board Warrior
After possibly the worst winter for gales and unsettled weather we have at last come in to a settled period the seas of Chichester are calm. The good news is that the mild south-Westerly air flows all winter kept the sea temperatures high,so high in fact the bass stayed inshore thought out the winter period.
View Boats Page
So this is good for our spring fishing ,last year at this time the water was a chilly 3.75 c but this year its nearly 9 c so the sea does not need to warm up to encourage the fish in shore,i predict we will see the first bream very late march or very early April and don’t forget the first ones are the large male fish staking their territory ,so if you want to get a personal best bream this year the best time is early on in the season .
We have done 4 trips this month from our new base Chichester marina it is working out very well so far ,the cafe have provided us with bacon or sausage baps in the mornings and a beer upon our return. Each trip has yielded rays , a mix of blondes, undulates, thorn backs, small eyed and spotted nothing massive yet the best was a 14lb undulate and 10ld small eyed .There has been a few congers mixed in still the odd cod and good chances of spur dogs although we have not landed one yet.
We will keep pursuing rays especially big blonde one until the bream turn up so again if you want to try for the fish of a life time a 20lb plus blonde ray give me a call and ill sort you out a trip from Chichester on Warrior or Shaw thing . -

BASS BASS BASSS BASS BASS BASS BASS BASS
Well its that time of the year again where we go targeting the bass and large smooth hounds that move through our area during the warmer months. The early bass fishing (May) we find lug baits the best. Even fishing with a single worm can be deadly, and obviously crab baits will always work well on the rocky ground around the Foreland. From May onwards, the mackerel sholes arrive and this being the best bait for larger fish a live mackerel fished on a flowing trace can easily produce fish up to 15lb from our shores. (Please check out the top gallery for bass catches last year.) The smooth hounds will also be arriving shortly. Crab baits, squid and lug will easily catch these hard fighting fish. To book a specialist bass or hound trip around the Goodwins and North Foreland area, give Roger a call on 07805250427 to discuss your requirements. Remember all quality gear onboard. Tuition and lunch is supplied on all trips. Happy angling,UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Skerry Belle

This week Ocean Warrior 3 had its biggest ever Coalfish, caught by Tabish Aiman. It was a cracking 16lb and these fish are hard fighting and was a well enjoyed catch by Tabish.
We are looking forward to getting back out to the deep wrecks offshore for some more good fishing.
