Report on-board White Maiden II
At last on Friday we had a decent forecast and a crew to go with it. The F6 SW was a bit too much in the morning so we fished comfortably in the Solent. See pictures referenced in Your Catches page.
View Boats Page
Roy caught his first ever Ray, a cracking very well marked specimen 14lb Undulate Ray. The very nicely marked and protected Undulate Ray came at the end of the flood tide and was soon followed by Gavin's specimen 4lb 8oz Spotted Ray. Both Rays were released.
The lads also caught six dogfish and two Pout which was not too bad in an early March short session just down the Solent.
A point of interest was a huge container that was floating end up off Newtown. It was reported by another Charter Boat to the Coast Guard but they didn't seem too excited about it. Packs of Cigarettes were in the tide too.
Saturday was a better forecast again, so regular crew Trident SAC boarded White Maiden and we headed for the Needles Lighthouse only to carry on and duck behind the Shingles for the first couple of hours. It was a bit too bouncy 'outside' at the start of the day. This first mark was far too quiet so as the wind eased off we headed South and found two cracking fish with another nice Undulate Ray this time at 15lb 4oz for Steve and a big male 20lb Blonde Ray for Chris, both were released unharmed. Steve then caught a nice 6lb Small Eyed Ray and Chris a 5lb Thornback Ray which both were quickly dispatched and went home for dinner! Other species caught were a small Hound and a Conger and lots of Dogfish. It was good to see more nice Rays.
Sunday today, was a better forecast again so we pushed out about ten miles South of the Needles, a big ask for the beginner anglers but we went as a buddy boat to another Charter. The fishing was good but hard work pulling in some big fish up from 130'. David caught the Bull Huss, while the other pictures are of Tom who did very well with the best Undulate Ray at 17lb, plus a Blonde of 11lb and a few Congers the best weighed at 26lb but another lost, after tangling its hooks at the net which was easily 35lb. Steve had the biggest Conger weighed on the boat at 27lb. Steve and David are pictured below.
It was nice to get out and have a proper fish for three days in a row and the fishing was actually a bit better than expected.
Note that I also saw the first Mullet on Friday and a shoal of them on Saturday, that is early! Tightlines, LesUPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD White Maiden II

Fishing Report by Bob Marshall
on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)
9 Mar 2014 by Bob Marshall
Report on-board Duke IV
The inshore fishing here at Ramsgate is now improving with quality Skate in most areas, along with plenty of Codling, these fish are small but give us hope for the future. Smoothounds, Bass and Mackerel are arriving now and will offer fine sport over the next few months. Still lots of herring showing on the sounder so plenty of fodder for the large Bass that are heading our way, always on the lookout for an easy meal!
View Boats Page
Herring has been the bait of choice for the Skate throughout the winter but as summer moves on they will be looking for mackerel.
Squid remains a good bait for most species and the Hounds are very partial to a whole one and when the water warms sufficiently the crabs will peel giving us more bait choice!
The school Bass will be shoaling on the banks, great fun on the feathers or Hokkie lures. Clear water is a must though and the winds we are getting can stir up the water, then the humble lugworm becomes the better bait!
The wreck fishing season starts soon and we will soon be out there drift fishing jellies and shads for the Cod, Pollack and Bass.
Still some weekend dates available and each Thursday for individuals, so dust off the rods and come fishing aboard Duke IV.

After a few wet and windy months, Ocean Warrior 3 managed to get out to do some offshore wreck fishing.

We had an enjoyable day and found that there are some really big Pollock starting to show out on the deep water wrecks now. Chris Warner had the biggest of the day with a cracking 17lb 3oz caught on the sidewinders.
We are looking forward to getting back out to the deep water wrecks again soon.
We still have some spaces available, so why not come and join us if you fancy a day out wreck fishing. -

Report on-board White Maiden II
Brief report to say just how great this CBUK website is after rejoining again after a long period of 4 years or so, avoiding too many bookings. Recently, however I have gone full time,so have made the boat and myself available for mid-week trips and Sundays! Previously I looked after crews on Saturdays and Evenings only. Obviously I am looking for more business. I run my own website but this website is great to edit, use and update. I am well impressed.

I'm just adding a recent picture of last Saturday 8th February where I was involved in the Solent RNLI Flank Station Lifeboats get together in Cowes to exchange stories over lunch and a pint.
We had 35 - 45 knt SW gales on our return trip but as we were aboard the Bembridge Tamar All Weather Lifeboat we were very safe! I took this pictures as we entered the river Medina at Cowes. This is where we met up with our own Calshot Atlantic Lifeboat and the Yarmouth, Lymington and Cowes crews too. It was a great day and a very good opportunity for some social and serious chat about the winter.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD White Maiden II

Report on-board Duke IV
Duke IV is now back on the mooring, all spruced up and ready to go. There's a good run of Spring Codling along with plenty of Skate and quality whiting running through our area!
View Boats Page
Got out today with a group of individuals, great heros to come out fishing in this awful weather although after a choppy start the wind dropped & even the sun came out along with the fish and we ended the day with a good haul including four nice Thornbacks with Stuart from Margate landing 2 on herring (see picture) along with 2 more for John & Alan.
When spring finally shows the Bass will be heading our way along with the Smoothounds and Mackerel so with the days stretching out and fish coming in we can look forward to some good fishing.
Bait remains the same with Squid, lugworm and herring being the best options but always bring other baits as you never know what the fish prefer on the day.
Plenty of weekend dates available still, but the phone has started ringing so if you have some particular dates in mind booking sooner rather than later will be best.
Pic shows- Stuart from Ramsgate with 2 nice Skate. -

Report on-board Warrior
Well we have had the majority of our winter fishing and i have to say it was probably the worst year for cod we’ve had in the last 10 seasons. The only good thing was the size of the fish with half of them being over 20lb the best fish being caught by Bex, The Skipper of Shaw Thing II, weighing 32lb. Warriors best fish was 25lb caught by Richard Clarke who is a regular with us, his fish was massive but a bit on the skinny side, another month it would have been a potential boat record.
View Boats Page
Even though the cod were shy the Channel Whiting were phenomenal with many days over a hundred fish landed between 11/2-2lb .The best whiting of the season was just over 4lb, this beat last years record by almost 1lb.
There is a school of thought that the abundance of whiting was the reason for the lack of cod, being that the whiting are fast ferocious feeders, they may of been hovering up the food sources leaving the cod short of feed. There did not seem to be the amount of sprat shoals around for the time of year which are a regular winter food source. One large cod we gutted was full of pissers, a hard poll-op type growth that attaches to the sea bed, certainly not a regular food source for cod, I can only assume that the fish was struggling to find its normal quarry so it ate what it could to survive.
All in all it was a strange year with the late start to the bream season, then the abnormally hot calm weather, the fishing never seemed to really settle down in to its regular pattern so its not a surprise that by the end of the year things were difficult.
We are going to carry on with cod trips in to January to see what comes up, there are some special offers on Shaw Thing II. This time of year you can pick up spur dog, big blonde ray, conger and the elusive 30lb plus cod.
