  • 21/04/2013 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

21 Apr 2013 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

At last Duke IV has been able to get offshore to the wrecks off Ramsgate today and the chaps from Daggers deep sea anglers caught plenty of Cod on jellies, shads and all sorts of rubber lures. Micky had the best of the day a shade under 11lb, not bad for so early in the season. Just one Pollack today for Kev who also landed his PB Cod and a nice Plaice when we stopped to drift lug over a bank on the way home.
Plenty of Skate inshore along with Smoothounds and the first Bass so its all happening out from Ramsgate. Still dates available for booking Duke IV. Whether its inshore or offshore you will always get a great days fishing aboard Duke IV. Check out www.fishingramsgate.com for latest fishing reports, individuals dates and best deals around. Tight lines, Bob

  • 04/2013 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

    Apr 2013 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

The inshore fishing here at Ramsgate is now improving with Skate in most areas. Smoothounds, Bass and Mackerel are also arriving. Still lots of herring showing on the sounder so plenty of fodder for the large Bass that are always on the lookout for an easy meal!
Herring has been the bait of choice for the Skate throughout the winter but as summer moves on they will be looking for mackerel.
Squid remains a fine bait for most species and the Hounds are very partial to a whole one and when the water warms sufficiently the crabs will peel giving us more bait choice!
The school Bass will be shoaling, great fun on the feathers or Hokkie lures. Clear water is a must though and the constant winds we are getting can stir up the water, then the humble lugworm becomes the better bait!
The wreck fishing season starts now and we will soon be out there drift fishing jellies and shads for the Cod, Pollack and Bass.
Still some weekend dates available and each Thursday for individuals aboard Duke IV.

  • 04/2013 Fishing Report by Dave Elliott on Ocean Warrior 3 (Brighton, East Sussex)

    Report on-board Ocean Warrior 3

The weather has not been brilliant so far in 2013, but we are looking ahead and it is that time of year when we are going to start anchoring up for those big Conger Eels offshore.

The water has been cold for the Conger lately, but hopefully now that wind is back in the south west, it will warm the sea back up for them.

We have got plenty of cuttlefish ready as we start the anchoring season. We still have dates available on the good anchor tides for those offshore wrecking trips - so get yourself booked in. I am very much looking forward to getting back out there for those big eels.

  • 04/2013 Fishing Report by Ray Burn on Grey Viking (Brighton, East Sussex)

    Apr 2013 by Ray Burn

    Report on-board Grey Viking

Well the weather has been frustrating with this unprecedented cold spell and more windy days than usual for this time of year. The good news is that we've been on the Pollack since before Christmas and when we are able to get out the fishing has generally been better than the last few years with more Pollack about. They are bigger too with double figure fish commonplace and 8lb is the new small! All good stuff!! We've had at least one personal best on each trip and you can't ask for much more than that.

Looking ahead to April and beyond I think the cold water temperatures will extend the season for big Pollack by at least a month - certainly into May (the May Rot will be late) Cod will be showing on the wrecks soon too.

Inshore the Plaice fishing was good in February and will be back on top form as soon as this cold spell ends. We normally start Bream fishing mid April but again I suspect they will be late and May/June will be the time to target them this year.

As soon as the Mackerel show we will be doing plenty of mid-channel Turbot trips. These will be longer 10 to 11 hour days and limited to 7 anglers with their own tackle (braid essential). We will mix these day's up with some wreck fishing too.

Give me a call and we'll get you booked up on a trip soon.

    Report on-board Emma Louise

    Sat 30th March.
The weather was not great so I decided to forget the wrecks as my party was all new to boat fishing and I wanted them to have a good time.so I opted for a spot of plaice, fishing which was a good call as they all managed to catch a few even though two of the ladies didn't feel great for part of the day but to give them there due they stuck at it.

  • 03/2013 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

    Mar 2013 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

The days are stretching out, its slowly warming up and the fish are moving. We are now looking for the spring run of Cod this area is famous for. The fish move inshore to feed on the crab, whiting and small squid that are moving into our waters, so there is plenty of feed to attract the fish.
The Skate have now laid their purses so will be hungry and feeding, with herring always a favourite bait for these superb fish. The males are smaller but very fiesty while the females go to 15lb so great sport on light tackle. Still some Bass around inshore and the large shoals will soon be running from The English Channel around into The Thames Estuary. They run close to shore around the South Foreland and up the Gull stream, not easy to catch as they are more intent on traveling than eating but a juicy lugworm or fish strip can sometimes tempt them. Smoothounds will be looking for the crabs with peeler or soft crab being the bait of choice, again great sport on light tackle. 12/20lb class rods with 7000 size reels make an ideal set up for all our fishing, light enough to allow the fish to perform, but powerful enough to land a big Skate
We will be shortly begin offshore wreck fishing, looking for Cod, Pollack and Bass, drift fishing the wrecks with shads, jelly worms and hokkies. pick a small tide with good weather and enjoy the day.
Duke IV will be back fishing Saturday 23rd following a couple of weeks out for maintanance including antifouling a few repairs and a good clean up. All this to keep us number one in getting you out fishing as quickly and safely as possible!
To attract the small groups who like the boat to themselves we are currently offering a great deal. Book Duke IV exclusively for your group for a days fishing from just £180 or still just £40 for individuals bottom fishing. Contact me for your trip and we will sort the best deal for you! Tight lines. Bob

    Daiwa 2013 Brighton Pollock Competition

Brighton Pollock competition was won by Connor Bonwick with a superb Pollock of 17lb 9oz.Caught on Board Seabreeze3,And the junior prize was won by Michael Parker with a Pollock of 10lb 9oz

The 17lb 9oz Pollock was caught on a small wreck twenty four miles off Brighton on Seabreeze3.
Connor was fishing alongside his Dad, Darren. When Connor first hooked into this superb fish he thought it was the wreck, and then when he realized it wasn’t the wreck, the battle began. After five minutes of playing the fish it finally broke the surface. We all knew on board that this was going to be a big fish but didn’t realize it was going to be an 18lb fish.
When the fish was first weighed on board, it weighed in at just over18lb but by the time it got weighed in at the harbor it had lost a little weight.
Connor was absolutely thrilled to receive £22 from the anglers on board who all put in £2 each for the heaviest fish. He then received £300 to spend on Daiwa fishing tackle and also a free day’s fishing trip on Seabreeze3. Needless to say Connor was a very happy young man!
I would like to say a big thank you to all the other guys that took part in the competition and also thank you to Paul Dyer on Brighton Diver for organizing the competition who raised over £1000 for the RNLI. Well done.
If anyone would like a day’s fishing on Seabreeze3 then please give me a call on the number below.

    Report on-board Ocean Warrior 3

We have managed to get some good fishing in this week. We went out to the deep water wrecks looking for those big Pollock. There was plenty of tide to make them feed and we are still finding them very high in the water on the fast retrieve on the gill, 40 to 50 turns up.

Neil did the best with 11 big Pollock to 15lb 12oz, along with Rich who had Pollock to 14lb 8oz. It was a very enjoyable day with plenty of Pollock for everyone to take home and a great days Pollock fishing.

We are looking forward to getting back out there for some bigger ones this week. If you fancy a crack at it give Dave a call on 07966 377145 as we still have some spaces available and the weather is looking good.

We have had some good weather lately and we have managed to get out Pollack fishing.

Don Matthews had the biggest one this week at 17lb 3oz. It was caught drifting using a white shad lure over a deep water wreck.

We have been finding that the Pollack have been really high in the water, which has also been really clear.

If you fancy a day out Pollack fishing - check out the calendar for spaces available or call Dave on 07966 377145.
