Flat calm, no wind, short tides - still not t-shirt weather yet.
A leisurely start this morning. Heading out at slack water, which felt like it took forever to start to gain momentum.
We headed to a bass mark, with the tide still not doing anything, the fish were slow to start biting.
A quick change of location and our fortunes picked up straight away, with plenty of good codling and pollack being caught on soft plastics.
As the tide started to run I decided to revert back to PLAN A.
On approach to the mark, birds were working and the Bass were feeding, breaching the surface of the water in numerous places.
We must’ve had well over 100 bass in a couple of hours. Including a couple of stonkers.
It’s so nice to see more and more kids and teenagers on the boat this year. They are the future of the sport, and should be encouraged to get involved as often as allows.
I’ve been very busy today, and that’s just the way I like it.
We go again tomorrow

Saturday - having hauled in plenty of decent Bream down West Friday with novice anglers we headed back again Saturday with very experienced anglers and plenty of the right bait to give it a good working over ….and with high expectations; they were quickly shattered! A couple of average Bream in as many hours so with little prospect of it improving we upped anchor and blasted out deep for some wrecking (which has been excellent). Caught the back end of the flood, slack, start of ebb so not ideal and the results were the same - A few small Pollock for a whole lot of effort/miles. A fantastic crew, a beautiful day the only thing missing was decent fish. Such a strange day, very rare for us but scant consolation for those onboard for the day and so sorry that you had to experience that.
Sunday (today) - normal service resumed, well kind of! A dense fog all day offshore (which looked like it was going to burn off but never did) saw us undertake 8hrs of Radar Nav with reduced speed to suit conditions and a significant alteration of our plan for the day. The result was a steady flow of god fish, a few decent doubles amongst them and our first Cod of the season to Tom. Lovely to have Mark and his kids along to experience a days wrecking and to see Kieran battle a fin perfect beast to the boat.
A fabulous couple of days with lovely people. The next week looks like a washout so plenty of time to try and figure out what Saturday was all about; such a strange day.
Thanks to all for your company and look forward to fishing with you later in year.
Best wishes

The impending foul weather brings the Easter Bank holiday weekend’s fishing to an abrupt close. It’s been a great weekend to be fair, and getting out for 3/4 of the time is pretty lucky going off tales from years gone by.
Today, Easter Sunday saw a family group book the boat for a mixed fishing day. Only the grandad had ever properly fished before, and that was only on lakes in Moldova, so being single handed I thought I could be in for a busy day. I was.
The day started off slowly, which came as a massive shock considering the marks my sounder was picking up.
The seabed was literally undulating with fish in pockets. Using a mixture of rigs/lures, and with massively differing techniques, my crew of newbies just couldn’t tempt the fish to bite.
When the first fish finally succumbed to a hook if fell to six year old Sebastian. He was so chuffed with his prize, as you can see, and that is what it’s all about.
We started picking up more fish, all of which were under sized. We headed to another mark to drift some different rocks and broken ground (at Sebastian’s request), but after everyone got tangled, and snagged, on the first drift, I suggested that maybe going back to plan A would be wise.
As their experience grew, more and more fish were caught. Considering today was Deep Blue’s first Bass of the season day, and the gazillion tangles, and lost lures, and weights, it was a pretty good da with a group I’m certain will return.
All the crew were using our newly serviced and fantastic Penn Fathom and Squall reels, and the full carbon Penn Prevail 2 rods.

A tale of two halves.

We had a lovely family onboard today who were over on their holidays visiting a family member.
The morning conditions were fantastic. Flat calm and no wind. The wind picked up after lunch and things got a bit choppy.
Morning, fishing the flood at anchor. Big baits, small baits, with a mixture of squid, mackerel and frozen lug (curse those short tides). It was a struggle. Our baits were getting nibbles, but no firm bites.
Afternoon, fishing the slack and ebb on the drift. It couldn’t have been more different from the first half of the trip. After bumping into Muscle Fishing 6 miles out in his little Tuffy, he said that they’d had some mackerel. So we hung around and sure enough, a couple of strings within seconds of each other.
A nice codling and a bigger pollack quickly followed. More mackerel, half a dozen more pollack, some gurnard, one of which was a big’un, and a string of scad rounded off our afternoon nicely.
I also snapped one of my PENN Fishing rods ♂️

My thanks to the crew for a great day, top angling gentleman and I hope you enjoy your catch.

First trip of what is going to be a very busy Season for us today. There is always a hint of trepidation when you haven’t been able to gather intelligence of what wrecks are fishing well and with around 2,000 to choose from off of our East Sussex coastline getting on the right ones, at the right time is absolutely critical.
View Boats Page
In 7 years we have never failed to catch the target species on wrecks so we had a good idea where to find the better fish but you never know for sure! We needn’t have worried, we were soon into good fish and the tally kept growing and fish sizes improving throughout the day. Great to see so many fantastic early season fish in excellent condition and some nice doubles amongst them. Best of the day went to Ian that tipped the scales 14lb 6oz and a new PB - well done Ian.
Great to catch-up with some of our regular anglers and to also welcome aboard some other fine chaps new to fishing with us, we look forward to welcoming you aboard again.
We are going to be making the most of this wrecking for the next couple of months before hitting the Bream, Bass, Turbot & Brill so if you would like to join for more of the same drop is a line and we will hook you up.
Species today - Pollock, Coalfish, Gurnard, Whiting and of course no wrecking trip complete without the mighty Pouting!! Lost count of numbers but we were into the second big fish box which is always a good sign.
Thanks all who sailed with us today and well done on your catches.
Best wishes

Sunday morning was abit warmer than Saturday
The wether overcast and damp. Wasn't looking nice for the day. So meeting up with Octavian and his crew we decided to head to sea. First starting a drift for some plaice heading west we see some signs of bait fish so we stopped and all went down having 3 novice's onboard I knew it wasn't going to be easy.
So after the first couple of hours we ended up with I think 2 dabs 1 plaice and a handful of wighting so we decided to head out ABIT further this didn't work out as we stopped catching the flaties moving back closer to the shore we picked up a flounder a plaice and a few more dabs making it abit more worth while at this point the sea had decided to pick up to 0.7 MTRS so we headed east to seaford bay . Fishing quite close to shore for this effort we ended up with 1more dab
All in all not brilliant but it was a day at sea

When it comes to fishing in the winter knowledge is key
I learnt that from fishy rob out of Brighton.
With the tides being so big and the fishing being hard I knew I had to think out of the box. With that I put a crew together to go plaice fishing.
Not knowing what the outcome was going to be. In the morning I got the lads to meet up at #fortroadcafe for breakfast. Being that it was flat we was quite chilled on the time to set sail so we left at 9am quite a sivolised time. Heading out to sea I decided to tern left and headed out for an hour once we got to the mark what seemed like forever. We decided to anchor up fishing a standerd flatti rig with worm . As soon as we got there within seconds the first rod had gone with a double shot of plaice shortly followed with a few more. As the day went on the fishing started to drop off .
So with that I decided to move eaven closer to the beach .mind you we wasn't fish that far out to start with
After resetting the boat the fishing continued with some flounder's dabs and more plaice being caught
Total tally for the boat 23 plaice 17 keepers 2 Flounder and 15 dabs returned bringing us to over 40 flat fish for the day
On the way back out new team member James gutted all the fish with everyone tired and cold I knew my job was complete till the next time
Captain ant
