    Report on-board Rapid Fisher

Rapid Fisher has recently carried out her first trip to the famous fishing grounds in Alderney. The weather gods obviously didn't realise that they should have been kinder but with one of the the most fuel efficient, wave piercing hulls on the market I knew we would make it across, sure enough we made it there in 4 hours!!

Second day saw us travel round to the Schoal bank in a heavy swell. Despite challenging conditions we still managed to boat 7 turbot. The weather also made bait fishing a struggle but we had enough for the days fishing. A well deserved pint was enjoyed by all on our return to Bray harbour.

Day three saw much better fishing conditions with flatter seas so we headed to the south west banks. Bait wasn't a problem in these conditions as the mackerel & launch were obliging. Boat regular Malcolm Nightingale boated a cracking 7lb brill on the first drift. After moving around on the banks we ended up with a 10lb 3oz turbot, caught by Tony Moore, 4 tope up to 35lbs, 3 bass & 13 more turbot of varying sizes.

Day four was perfect conditions for wrecking. After setting off form the harbour we made a steady 22 knots to the wrecks off of Cherboug. First wreck which is normally very reliable for pollack we blanked on! This was a worry but we moved on to another wreck to the east which produced very little. I then made the decision to move to a bit of ground i know which paid off. We had a few big pollack then moved to another wreck mid channel which produced 3 big pollack. We then moved to the rips which was fishing quite well for pollack. Whilst not big fish the numbers made up for it. We did 110 miles on the way home searching for the fish.

All the guys on the trip were a great laugh and a great time was had by all.

  • 18/05/2014 Fishing Report by Simon Fisher on Becca Marie (Brixham, Devon)

18 May 2014 by Simon Fisher

    Report on-board Becca Marie

Well it was good to get back out on the Wrecks again after a Period visiting the Banks and roughs.
The weekend of 17th and 18th of May saw Becca-Marie Fishing Inshore and offshore Wrecks.... Saturday was spent on our Half day Wrecking trips two ( 4hrs) trips and despite the water still being dirty with May Bloom the Pollock were feeding which kept the Anglers happy.... Although not huge ( up to 5lb) they were in abundance, so great fun was had by all on these shorter trips.
On the Sunday we left at 6am and headed offshore into the Deeper water, We arrived at Wreck in very good time and just by looking at the water clarity we new a good day was on the cards.... First three drifts produced no fish but on the fourth the fish woke up! The first double figure Pollock were netted and a new personal record was set by regular 16 year old Sam LeBaily with his 11lb 5oz. As the tide slowed down a Cod and three Ling were gaffed the Largest taken by Rafal Wszotek at 22lb 9oz,
As the tide picked up from the Slack more double figure Pollock were netted , the best of which was by regular Alastair Finch just shy of 16lb and the best Pollock of the day by Daryl Acreman at 18lb 2oz....... The wreck continued to produce fish for the remainder of the day, which made a nice change to remain on just one wreck.!! We had 20+ Pollock with the smallest at 7lb which has made it one of the best days we`ve had this season so far.

  • 05/2014 Fishing Report by Ross Parham on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)

    May 2014 by Ross Parham

    Report on-board Spot On!

Spot On has been using her speed to get out to some great fishing at the moment, with good catches on the wrecks both inshore some days and offshore on others, with lots of Pollock, Cod and with a few Ling, Whiting, Gurnards and pouting thrown in the mix as well.

Weather has been fantastic and the guys have all been great and the days fishing have flown by with good sport all round all round with bent rods everywhere.

Off to the channel islands soon for our first trip this year as the first one was cancelled due to the weather so fingers crossed for this one.

One trip producing some massive summer pollock with one angler taking 11 double figure fish and total of 20 fish in double figures with most weighing in at 12-15lb.

Pictured is the Jammy skipper who put his rod down for a drift to show the others how its done and with my fine Summer Pollock.

  • 18/05/2014 Fishing Report by Sam Cumming on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

18 May 2014 by Sam Cumming

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

We have honestly had too many good days in the last month to pick one out in particular. It’s amazing what a bit of calm weather and warmer temperatures can do for the fishing. The fishing inshore around Poole has been phenomenal with some of the best black bream fishing I ever seen right on our door step, both quality and quantity. Using a 2-up rig baited with half a squid head and a bit of rag worm seems to attract those bigger fish around the 4lb mark. Along with this the mackerel have arrived along with the first bass of the year and rays of all species and sizes. One day this week saw spotted, blonde, undulate and small eyed rays all hitting the surface within minutes of each other. As I mentioned in the last report I have done my first trip to Alderney for this year. Favourable weather conditions, for a change, meant we were able to get down to the shoal bank 3 days on the trot. Amongst the mountains of bait fish on the banks south of Alderney we had some good turbot up to 12lb 8oz, landed by Gary Kent. This week we are visiting Cherbourg on our first trip to France of the year, lets the weather and fishing keep up with our side of the channel.

  • 17/05/2014 Fishing Report by Nigel Lihou on Optimist (Brixham, Devon)

17 May 2014 by Nigel Lihou

    Report on-board Optimist

Sat 17th May a late all day booking from the guys from Chepstow, an early start meant a distance mid channel wreck. First wreck the fish weren't feeding so a move of a couple of miles put us on a wreck that first drop pulled up a 4lb 5oz Pollack on pink sidewinder, and continued to produce with some nice Pollack and Cod up to 8lb on small shads, with pouting and whiting also being caught. This continued through the ebb and slack water to the start of the flood when the fish seemed to go off the feed it was time for a change of wreck but with the spring flood the fish, although showing on the electronics, did not seem to want to take a variety of lures and bait offered to them.

    May 2014 by Colin Penny

    Report on-board Flamer IV

Two sessions of anchored fishing on two different Bank marks produced plenty of action with a variety of Rays,Tope, Bull Huss,
Spurdogs,Smooth Hounds, Conger and the usual Dogfish. The successful bait for all the fish was cocktails of Ammo Squid and Mackerel mounted on pennell rigs. Kevin Clark from Plymouth was very pleased to land his first ever Spurdog which weighed in at 17Ib 7oz and now his Personal Best (pictured). Keith Butwell landed two Undulate Rays weighing 15Ib 12oz and 12Ib. Trevor Digby from Derby shire landed a Bull Huss weighing 14Ib 8oz and new Personal Best.

  • 16/05/2014 Fishing Report by Malcolm Collins on Just Mary (Christchurch, Dorset)

16 May 2014 by Malcolm Collins

    Report on-board Just Mary

The Black Bream are showing up now in numbers in Poole Bay, Dancing Ledge and other local hotspots. This is the time to get onboard a Poole Angling Charter Boat and catch these fish in prime condition. Aboard 'Just Mary' we practice the 'catch and release' system for all Female fish (full of roe at this time of year), small male fish and of course any undersize fish less than 25cm. Anglers are encouraged to take only as many fish as they need to eat and thus try to conserve future stocks. These Black Bream were almost wiped out in the seventies due to overfishing by Anglers and surely the only way forward is to look after our stock as well as we possibly can. Sadly not everyone shares my views. With high pressure, a warm Sun and settled seas can there really be anything better than Black Bream fishing with light rod and reel ? Personally I enjoy every minute of being afloat in those conditions at this time of year.....come and join us !

    MAY 2014
A lovely summer wrecking trip produced plenty of fish which included Pollack,Ling,Cod and Bass. The fish were caught on a variety of lures but the evolusion red gills in colours of Pink,Black and Orange, Blue and White accounted for the majority of the fish with the good old Rhubarb and Custard sidewinder also catching it's share.A mention to Nick Gunn who I think caught a fish on every drift using a Black and Orange Red Gill, his only dissapointing moment was when a 20Ib plus Cod escaped just before it was about to go in the landing. Pictured is Kevin Clark also did well and caught his Personal Best Bass weighing 6Ib 2oz on a Blue and White evolusion Red Gill.

  • 03/05/2014 Fishing Report by Nigel Lihou on Optimist (Brixham, Devon)

3 May 2014 by Nigel Lihou

    Report on-board Optimist

The last few trips have found Plaice, Plaice and more Plaice on the Skerries with the inshore wrecks producing some Pollack of between 3lb to 10lb. We still seem to be lacking in baitfish as mackerel are still fairly few and far between but those caught of a good size. After the winter of storm after storm things are starting to settle down with spring species starting to reappear but fishing is still a bit hit or miss they are either feeding in which case we are catching or they are there but not showing an interest. Plenty more trips planned and as things settle it will get better.
