    Report on-board Just Mary

Apologies to those of you who regularly read my Fishing Reports on this site but I've been on Holiday abroad to visit the in-laws ! Anyway I'm back now so here goes ! One report that I should have done before leaving these shores was of the last weekend in July. Saturday 27/7 a Hire rod party enjoyed sport with plenty of Tope and a nice Undulate Ray of 18lb 0oz for Anoush Shamsaie on his first ever boat fishing trip. 'Anyone Can Fish' and catch Specimen sized fish on 'Just Mary'.....we prove it time and time again.....! Sunday 28/7 saw some poor weather conditions develop but the lads and lass from down Yeovil way still had good sport with Bass, Mackerel, Plaice, Dogfish, and other Summer Species both outside and in the Harbour. So Holiday..... then back to Fishing Trips.....On Saturday 31/8 a Hire rod party again had good sport catching Tope and a Specimen sized Undulate Ray of 18lb 4oz for Gary Gunning from Swindon, another personal best. Sunday 1/9 saw us pushing further offshore to a lovely mark only accessible on real neap tides off the Jurassic Coast. A great day's fishing was had by the three regulars, Kev the Chippie, Johnnie the Brickie and his mate Gary from Southampton who were joined by six Hire rod Anglers including two who drove from Birmingham ! We had Conger to 40lb plus, an Undulate for Johnnie of 12lb 8oz plus several other good ones lost by the Hire rod lads ('patience lads, take your time, don't try and winch them in'.....How many times did I say it !!!) , good Bream in good numbers nudging the 3lb mark, Tub and Red Gurnard, Tope, Doggies, Pout, Whiting, Scad, Mackerel, and a big edible crab.....to name just a few of the many species we landed......'Hectic !'.....as Kev the Chippie said.....! Then a Youth Club trip on Monday for the Townsend Youth ......good lads and we caught fish.....again......I keep saying it and eventually it will sink in......'Anyone Can Fish' on 'Just Mary'......AND catch fish.....listen and you will learn.....and come back for more.....!
    All the Best, Malc

    Report on-board Spot On!

This weekend has seen a bit of different types of fishing tried and with some mixed results and wind being a big factor but still the quality of the fish has been superb, from rough ground and reef fishing which included some nice gurnards along with dogfish, pout and abundance of mackerel, small Pollock and a lonely 14lb wreck cod.

Sunday was inshore wrecking at anchor with the aim of conger eels and bream and the lads were not disappointed with congers up to 70lb and all released at the side of the boat as the anglers not wanting to harm the fish, 9 eels broke the surface and 7 more lost during battle, we then decided to try out luck with bream and again Spot On was Spot On with some massive specimens coming on board along with loads of pouting, huge scad and lots of mackerel.

Biggest Bream fell to Mark Wellington of Plymouth with a massive fish of 5lb 6oz.

Thanks guys and look forward to seeing you soon to beat even more of your 'PB's

Pictured is James Ashton with 2 of his biggest bream of 4lb 14oz and 4lb 8oz.

    Report on-board Spot On!

Spot on had a weekends fishing on 24th and 25th August, wind to be fair was not the best with the weather man getting things wrong, still we didn't let this bother us when we headed out in search of Bass on Saturday and we were soon bringing up 4-7 bass per drift, all were caught on lures as live baiting would have been a bit hectic with having 11 anglers on the boat, the guys managed 65 bass in total with the biggest only being 6lb 9oz caught by Charlie morgan on the last drift of the day.
I would like to say thanks for the guys for fishing for sport and returning over 30 fish.

Sunday saw slightly calmer winds and we headed out for a fun day in search of all sorts, we started on the bass again and took 4 fish on 5 drifts, we then decided to head inshore on the reefs and drop the anchor, we were blessed with a great species hunt with a total of 12 species being landed which included the following:
Black Bream, Bass, Conger eel, Cuckoo wrasse, Thornback ray, Tub gurnard, Whiting, Mackerel, Scad, Pouting, Dogfish and Pollock.

Pictured is Saturdays crowd with the few Bass they kept for the plate after returning over 30 fish.

  • 26/08/2013 Fishing Report by nick smith on Samuel Irvin 3 (Dartmouth, Devon)

26 Aug 2013 by nick smith

    Report on-board Samuel Irvin 3

Target species was to be big blonde rays, we set of at 8am and within 10 minutes were all dropping feathers to get fresh bait. The mackerel were plentiful and only 15 feet down, so was a simple case of dropping down and stopping at the end of the leader.
Within half hour of leaving harbor we were anchoring up and dropping our baits down for the rays. We were all using 30/50lb class rods, mainly to counter the 2lb weights that were needed in such a strong tide to hold bottom which is a must for the ray fishing. The business end was a 6/0 - 7/0 hook fished either single or pennel style, attached to a 5 foot long 80lb trace. Bait was a whole squid and half a mackerel fillet (length ways) or just the mackerel fillet, the fillet being only hooked once to trail and flap in the tide.
Within 10 minutes we had our first ray that took nearly 15 minutes to land even with the heavy gear. The fishing continued like this for the rest of the morning and into the early afternoon with over 40 blonde rays being landed with severel pb's being beaten and the biggest ray topping 28lb.

    Report on-board Che Sara Sara

It takes a lot to be a charter boat skipper, patience would be the top of the list i reckon. Was one of those days where we were put on the fish time and time again but they didnt want to play. Various baits being used to tempt the pollock, frozen sand eel, mackeral strips and artifical of all shapes, sizes and colours. In the morning we drifted several good marks picking up the odd one or two here and there.Tide turned in the afternoon and the fishing did pick up with several nice pollock coming aboard. At times it was very hard going as the fish didnt really come on the feed but nice to be out enjoying the sun. Everybody had fish to take home so all in all not such a bad day. Mackeral, pollock, ling , gurnard and wrasse making up the catch.
