    Winter Fishing February 2011
Half term fishing started well today with 3 boxes of Coley, Pollack and Cod ....plenty of sustainable fish provided a great day's fishing. Unusually for this time of year the anglers also pulled in a dozen mackerel and 6 herring...a rare treat for wintertime fishing! For a different type of fish recipe click on this link to Jamie Oliver's recipe suggestions....This one will keep ee all warm tonight... http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/fish-recipes/coley-korma-with-fluffy-rice

Thanks Jamie for great ideas for using sustainable fish.

    Report on-board Rapid Fisher

A recent trip to a set of offshore banks produced a red letter day for one lucky angler. After a steady steam at 19 knots we arrived at a set of banks about 25 miles offshore. The anchor dropped and hooks baited we waited full of anticipation. Sure enough the tell tale nod of the rod tip and we knew we were in the right spot. Lifting into the bite Gareth knew he had connected with a big beast! Sure enough 30 minutes later a blonde ray of 24lbs was bought onboard. After a quick photo she was returned to fight another day. Gareth baited up again and lowered his carefully prepared squid bait and within minutes he was into another good fish. A lengthy battle ensued and Gareth bought another huge blonde to the net. Pictured here is the result, a fine blonde of 26lbs which was returned to fight another day.

With a break in the weather we pushed offshore to set of banks which has been known to throw up a few surprises! After half a dozen good size congers Richard shouted that he had hooked something different. After several crashing dives a plump 14 1/2 lb pollock was safely netted.

Not to be outdone yours truely hooked into a cracking Blonde which tipped the scales at just over 20lbs.

  • 28/12/2010 Fishing Report by Mark Hutchings on Jay Jay (Ilfracombe, Devon)

28 Dec 2010 by Mark Hutchings

    Report on-board Jay Jay

A group of locals braved the recent cold weather to fish the 28th December for the spurs. We had about a dozen over the high water on a 5 hour trip. To add to this we also had some nice whitting, a few bull huss and a couple of nice eels, the biggest falling to James Gubb which was estimated at about 20-25lbs. All in all not a bad outing for a short trip over the tide. We are currently running these shorter trips over the most productive fishing times. For a price and bookings call Dave on 01271 863398 or email: info@bristolchannelcharters.co.uk
