Bass fishing in Falmouth Bay, 11th July 2010
After commercial boats had caught 45 and 50 bass respectively on the day before, we headed for Falmouth Bay where birds have been working. After a short while, we caught a couple of small bass, and then had a 2 hour wait for the birds to reappear. We then caught a 5lb 7oz bass, and another smaller one. All over in a short while, so we anchored on a wreck in the afternoon and caught 25 conger, the best of which was 45lb in the short period of slack water.
The bass seem to be a one-off phenomena in this area (5-6 miles off land), so no particular marks, just following the bird signs.View Boats Page

Report on-board Supanova II
June has seen some cracking cod fishing continue on the wrecks, combined with some cracking summer Pollack. Large numbers of Pollack over 15lb's has been a very welcome adition indeed. Some good sessions on the anchor on the wrecks has seen good numbers of congers to 60lb. The reefs are still showing some good congers, tope and huss and with the arrival of the first summer bream we have certainly been kept busy. The last spring tides saw the arrival of the first bass with live sandeels all important. Long may this cracking spell of weather continue and the fishing go from strength to stgrength, Again, thanks to all for their continued support. Congratulations go to Mike Elvy for winning this months Supanova fish of the month with his PB Pollack of 22lb!
Tight lines,

Here we go then people, Summer is officially started as boated our first Blue Shark of the year on Sun 27th (est 70lb) then followed it up with an 85lb er on Mon. There does seem to be a few about as the few boats that are trying are having success. Congers have settled into summer feeding mode and a sign of a few more Pollack getting about.
Not a lot of gaps in diary but worth a phone call if you need a day- single place or FB Charter.View Boats Page

Fishing Report by Sam Cumming
on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

Report on-board Silver Spray II
The summer season is well and truly underway out of Poole now with shorts, t-shirts and plenty of sun block accompanying most trips. The fishing is following suit with bream catches off the Purbecks pecking in the 120’s and reaching a plump 3lb 14oz. We are happy to report all female bream, no matter the size, have been returned alive as it is there breeding season. Thanks to all the anglers for cooperating with this. We look forward to more good bream catches both inshore and offshore later on in the autumn.
After another two Alderney trips we are pleased to report that the catches of turbot and brill on the banks have stayed on a par with the first trip. The biggest turbot being a new personal best for Colin Jones at 11lb 4oz and another 100% specimen brill falling to Paul Bainbridge. The banks fishing on this side of the channel has produced the biggest fish with a 19lb turbot following last months 23lber. This fish was one of 9 caught by John Tisdale and Ian Wilkinson from Cornwall.
The wrecking has really been the highlight of the summer so far for us with the Pollack continuing in numbers well into the double figures on artificial lures. The cod have started to show in numbers on the brittle stars with fish around the 15lb mark not uncommon. Good hits have also come off the wrecks. One wreck producing 50 fish to 24lb on the return journey from Alderney, the best day of quality cod fishing the boat has had. These fish have also been accompanied by ling to 24lb, some surprise deep water brill to 8lb and congers on the slack. The biggest of which is the largest the boat has ever seen measuring at 7ft 5ins long and 24ins in girth. Unfortunately we did not have a set of scales big enough to weigh her properly so she was returned alive to fight another day. We would be pleased to receive any information on how to estimate weight from measurements on big conger.
The first bassing trips of the season got underway with the fish being slightly smaller than usual but in good numbers. With large amounts of joey mackerel showing both inshore and in deeper waters we are certain the bigger fish shall not be far behind.View Boats Page

Report on-board Bessie Vee
On a flat calm, sunny day we steamed out from Mevagissey for 20 miles. Had three drifts for pollock, where we picked up eight, the best of which was 12lb; then went to anchor on the ebb tide until slack water, where we picked up a 10lb ling and two small congers, so we opted to change wrecks rather than re-anchor, which meant steaming up channel another five miles (just enough time for a cuppa)! Here we started catching good ling from 8lb - 24lb, and congers from 12lb up to 46lb - the best angler landing eight congers; all successfully caught and released for another day. Ling tally was 22, which meant everyone had plenty of fish to take home for tea after a good day's sport for eight anglers!

Report on-board Predator
The lads from the Thamesdown Pirates enjoyed an overnighter aboard Predator II. We spent early evening feathering for our bait for the night. Anchor was dropped on a series of banks off to the West of Poole.
Pictured here is Tony with a fine conger of 30lbs. The night produced a steady number of black bream to 3lb along with a good number of rays, the biggest, a14lb Thornback, falling to Danny.View Boats Page
