    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

The last couple of weeks have seen a few small Cod caught including a double shot for Malcolm, but the highlight has been when Alan Cook bought to the side of the boat a new boat record Thresher Shark weighing between 200 and 250lb, the fish was released without being removed from the water but we did get very wet in the process. Closer to shore Plaice have been plentiful and in amongst the small ones we have found many up to 2lb 6ozs the only issue is the presence of small bait robbing bream which strip the hooks with military precision but this bodes well for the future.

    Report on-board Optimist

August has proved to be a great month for fishing on the wrecks and on the banks. We have had to travel some distance to some wreck marks known to us and have been rewarded with some good Pollack, codling and Bass including the one in the photo caught by Gus from Worcestershire on a 4in sidewinder eel, there are of course the inevitable Pouting (AKA Brixham Cod).

The Skerries is still producing some nice fish with a total of nine species in one day including Plaice, Blonde Ray, Red and Grey Gurnard, Dogfish, Mackerel, Scad, Pollack and Whiting. Testament to the Blondes is Caroline from Norfolk with a 10lb 11oz Blonde Ray, long drifts do produce the fish most taken on a cocktail of Rag worm, Squid and Mackerel.

The reefs are still providing some sport with Bull Huss and Small Conger with a few Pollack into the mix.

    Report on-board Flamer IV

Lee Warlow and members of the "Master Baiters SAC" from Swansea enjoyed their two day Angling Break aboard Flamer IV and caught 22 species over the two days which included Turbot, Black Bream, Small Eyed Ray, Undulate Ray, Bass, Bull Huss, Congers, Red Gurnard, Plaice etc. The guys did well on day 1 in breezy and choppy conditions catching Black Bream, Turbot and Rays while drift fishing. The weather was better on day 2 but the guys had to be patient as the fish were playing hard to get as we anchored a few reef marks and did some drift fishing.

Flamer IV catch of the day trophies were awarded to Lee Warlow on day one and Zac on day two, they were both pleased with their trophies.

The club have already booked for April 2020 with a days Wreck fishing and a Flat Fish day planned.

Pictured is Lee with one of the six Turbot which he caught while drifting a Bank using a two hook flowing trace with Mackerel strips as bait presented on Sakuma size 4/0 Stinger hooks.

    Report on-board Mirage

Considering it was so late in the season (Sunday 7th July) we had a fabulous day catching an average of ten fish each (Pollack and Ling). Dave is a wonderful Skipper, always finds the marks and always ensures we have a brilliant day. A huge thank you to the Crewman Simon who really looked after us throughout the day. We REALLY did not want the day to stop, it was FABULOUS.

  • 29/08/2019 Fishing Report by Philip Higgins on Mistress Linda / San Gina3 (Poole, Dorset)

29 Aug 2019 by Philip Higgins

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

Today was a practice session for the Lymington team to allow them to try new tactics and rigs, the start went well with a bit of wind and tide together as soon as we set up the Plaice and Bream kept coming aboard not fish but plenty of them then the tide changed so a bit of Ray fishing was required , a couple of Rays and more Bream came aboard and a move was required as I pulled the anchor up Robin was sure he had hooked weed so no one paid any attention then as the anchor was stowed a big shout from Robin that he needed a net and to our shock / surprise a 7lb 8 ozs Lobster was boated ( thank you Robin for my dinner). Conditions had deteriorated with a fresh breeze over the tide causing a bumpy drift at the wrong angles but I put it to the boys that this was a practice day and fishing outside of your comfort zone was the best way to gain knowledge so we moved nearer the shore enjoying a bit of the famous Bournemouth Air Show, as we started to drift the wind pushed us up the tide not ideal for fishing but good practice for the boys, to their credit they adapted very quickly and were soon into more Bream, Red Mullet, Plaice and various Wrasse species the Malcolm hit what he thought was another Ray but to our surprise he had bagged a double shot of Cod and a Bream. Well done to all the guys today managing challenging and producing the goods.

Brilliant day on the wrecks over 25 mile out of Brixham unfortunately long run out and back but well worth it, some good Pollack even Codling the usual Pouting (AKA Brixham Cod) and a very lovely 7lb 2oz Bass, all taken on sand eel lures. Plenty of Bait fish showing on the sounder, but still some savage takes on the drop. Still spaces available for September.
