Report on-board Silver Spray II
We have just come back from our first visit to Alderney of the year and I’m pleased to see the weather is nicer on this side of the channel. We battled it out in easterly winds for four days with one day of light winds in the middle proving to be the most productive. Despite conditions it was our best flat fish trip for a few years in terms of numbers. Turbot to 9lb 8oz and brill to 4lb were the top fish; due to the weather we couldn’t really try many other types of fishing. In the Channel the wreck fishing is going well now the may bloom seems to be clearing. Still plenty of good pollock around and the first of this year’s cod, last trip produced 6 which is encouraging for our top month of June. Inshore fishing is going along very nicely with a mix of bass and black bream. The bass have been falling to lures of many varieties as well as slow jigs. Today I am out with Jon and Ben Cannings fishing for bass with LRF gear and it hasn’t disappointed with over 30 fish coming to the boat on 2-8 gram gear. With the right conditions this really is the best way to fish for the inshore bass. Biggest fish so far goes to Dave Mynor with a fine summer fish of 9lb 5oz caught on a skerries eel with a long trace. The bream have been plentiful some days and difficult to hook others as the visibility hasn’t been great in the bay. This should clear up as the month pushes on. Best bream so far is 3lb 8oz caught on a whole squid head by Barry. Looking forward to our first crack at Guernsey next week to target some new grounds, still a few spaces on our trip on 10th June if your interested.

Report on-board Flamer IV
A morning session at anchor on a Bank produced some fine Blonde Rays which gave the anglers a right old tug on their tackle.
The successful bait was calamari squid and mackerel cocktails on pennel rigs of Sakuma Manta hooks.
Pictured is Bill Oliver with the 16Ib Blonde Ray he caught which set a new Personal Best fior Bill. The Ray was retuned alive to grow bigger.

Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3
The trip today was planned as an offshore trip but with the predicted northerlies we choose to try new marks closer to home instead of Bream of which we have had plenty, the 1st mark produced a few dogs, Tope and pout so a change of location was needed. We looked at several marks and decided to try a bank we had crossed but not fished within minutes we had bites with more dogfish and reasonable sized Whiting coming aboard followed by lots of congers then Steve’s rod nearly came out of the rod holder and after a good battle he landed a new PB Bass of 14lb which was released to grow bigger, not resting there he then landed a nice lobster which he also returned. Overall a great day with plenty of fish and new marks in the plotter

Report on-board Flamer IV
Gary Stone, Keith and Luke Williams travelled from Swansea to fish out of Weymouth for the first time and booked Flamer IV exclusivley for them selves. Lovely weather mean't the plan of Wreck fishing in the morning and drifting the Shambles Bank in the afternoon could be done. The guys enjoyed their day catching Bass,Pollack and Turbot.
Pictured is Keith Williams with his 12Ib Pollack which took his pink Red Gill lure.

The last few days has seen the weather turn from the hot Easter back to hat and gloves time but the fishing has remained good with plenty of Bream being landed and released, lots of mini species and a few rays mostly Undulates. Last week I did another barbless hook trial, landing 82 Bream whilst only loosing 2 during the fight , all were returned without touching the fish and one lucky fish who had another hook protruding from its mouth we removed that as well, it certainly did not stop him feeding.
All the best
