    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

The last 2 days have seen the weather go from bright blue skies and flat calm seas to cold overcast skies and increasing winds and the fishing followed the same pattern, on Friday we were rewarded with beautiful warm weather and the fishing was superb with plenty of quality Spurs, Tope and Rays coming aboard all day and armed with this I thought Saturday would prove just as good although the predicted forecast was not as favourable but seemed do able so we decided that we would venture as far as the conditions would allow us. Arriving at the boat on Saturday morning we found the boat covered in a hard frost and flat calm conditions, once the anglers were aboard we decided to go the distance even though we knew the weather would deteriorate at some point. On arrival the tide was a bit too strong but as soon as it cut the bites started with a few fish coming aboard no where near as many as the day before but the quality was good with Dan setting new PBs for Tope and Spurdog. As the tide turned the wind started so we headed inshore to find a few small whiting and dogs.
Overall a couple of very good days fishing for February.

Been a while since I last did a report here guys so apologies for that. Some of you may have heard about the poor Pollack fishing in general on the south coast wrecks so far this year, I put this down to many factors but last trip out it was just how it should be there was a huge improvement on the Offshore Wrecks for Pollack on Monday 11th February, heaps of Pollack for everyone, a cracking average size and a best fish of 15lb exactly. The inshore fishing this winter has been great, Whiting have been plentiful and of a good size, amongst the Whiting we have had Thornback Rays, Spotted Rays, Undulate Rays, Smoothounds, the occasional Spurdog, Huss and lots of Congers if the anglers want them. No less than 355 in 3 days of conger fishing at the end of Decmeber and there wasn't many straps. All in all pretty good when we can get out. Small tides this weekend so will be venturing offshore in search of Spurs for the first time in a while.
    Tight lines all,

  • 13/02/2019 Fishing Report by Matt Forrester on Silver Halo (Torquay, Devon)

13 Feb 2019 by Matt Forrester

    Report on-board Silver Halo

I've only run 3 trips since my last report and the good news is the size and numbers of pollock have slowly been creeping up.
However, they still are well behind what is to be expected for this time of year and all charters and rod and line commercials have found the same.
The water temps to the South and West are still higher than normal so this could be one of the causes? A couple more cold snaps wouldn't be a bad thing and we have our fingers crossed that its not 'over' fishing!!!
So, over the last 3 trips Ive fished wrecks through Lyme Bay and to the South. We have had many double figure pollock and the best being 16lb 8oz with a couple coming in over 14lb.
Each trip has seen a better result but we've only really found 1 or 2 wrecks producing fish each trip. On my offshore trips I often travel between 50 and 90 miles and often look at 5 or 6 different wrecks a trip! Other species caught have been Cod, Cuckoo Wreasse and Pout.
Please get intouch with any enquiries and get over to my Facebook group for regular short notice spaces and trips.
    Thanks Matt.

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

A small weather window allowed Poole Town Anglers to get afloat and head offshore in search of Spurdogs, the tide was perfect as we arrived and anchored the mark then within 5 minutes we had the 1st Blonde Ray followed immediately by a Thornback and other fish including small congers, hounds, dogs and Whiting. As the tide changed I re anchored and again we were into the rays with Pete Smith hooking into a decent fish which had other ideas than to be landed and after a 20 minute fight Pete's hook let go now the tide was getting too strong so we headed back inshore to find a few smaller fish and a nice Dab for Chris.

21 Jan 2019 by Philip Higgins

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

After a few days of unsettled weather the chance to venture out came on Sunday with sunshine and calm seas, the fishing was steady all day with plenty of Whiting, Dogs, Pout and as a bonus a few Rays and Congers. Matte landed his PB fish a Conger weighing in at 25lb on his light gear which proved challenging but fun. Today the forecast was favourable to start with forecasted increasing winds and a storm front following so we went for it and were rewarded with flat calm seas. We decided to fish a bank 8 miles out knowing that the strength of the tide would only allow a couple of hours fishing but those 2 hours produced some fine fish Whiting to 4lb 4 ozs, Undulate Rays to 13lb and plenty of dogs and small Eels. As predicted the tide beat us and we headed inshore to another bank and were immediately rewarded with more Whiting and a couple more Rays. Overall we had more fish yesterday but today the quality was far superior.

  • 01/2019 Fishing Report by Sam Cumming on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

    Jan 2019 by Sam Cumming

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

First report of 2019 and I’m pleased to say we have already carved out a dozen trips since Christmas. Fishing has been steady with the highlight being some really cracking whiting coming aboard, some fish well over the 4lb mark. As the weather improved after the festive period we managed to double our catch of cod for the winter that brings us up to 2. Although we haven’t had the best winter cod season, like most boats in our patch of water, we have seen some cracking Pollock, usually taking the top hook of a whiting rig. Ben Cannings was happily surprised one such day when he managed a 18lb 8oz Pollock on just size 3 hooks, by far our biggest ever inshore Pollock. Further off on the banks we have had the first of the spur dogs mixed in with some good sized bull huss. We got a shock on New Years Eve when fishing 10 miles out we managed to hook a shark of some description on the spur dog gear, a first for that time of year. Having buoyed the anchor off we chased it around for 15 minutes but the 100lb trace could only hold out for so long and eventually the fish won the battle. In the coming weeks we shall be looking for our first days out on the wrecks for the Pollock and more spur dogs and blonde rays on the banks. We still have space on our 3 and 4 Day trips to Alderney Guernsey and Cherbourg next year from July onwards, only a couple spaces left in June.
