Simon Bailey and friends joined Flamer IV for a Turbot fishing trip and were not dissapointed. They caught several Turbot during their trip and returned most of them.Simon lost a big fish near the boat only to see fellow angler Michael Devenish land a 17Ib Turbot a short time afterwards, of course we all said it was the fish Simon lost which made him feel even worse.Only one of the group failed to catch a Turbot so only one "Blanker " on the boat that day. Michael Devenish is pictured with his 17Ib and Personal Best Turbot.

Fishing Report by Philip Higgins
on Mistress Linda / San Gina3 (Poole, Dorset)
23 Apr 2017 by Philip Higgins
Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3
The start to the Bream season kicked off earlier than for many years with goods catches coming aboard from the 1st weekend of April, all the local marks are producing with several early season bream weighing in around the 3lb mark, and young Andy Jewson on his 1st fishing trip with his 1st drop landed a fine Bream of 3lb 1ozs much to Dads dismay who had not even finished baiting up. The better fishing has been in the harder tides as expected but even in the weaker ones plenty of fish have been landed. Drift fishing along the shores has produced some fine Plaice up to 2 1/2lb along with several small Turbot, Gurnards and Garfish. For those anglers wishing to do species hunt trips Poole is an ideal venue as last weekend aboard the Mistress Linda over 23 different species were landed. Further off to sea during the weaker tides plenty of sport has been had with Tope, Spurdogs and Blonde Rays. Wreck fishing has been consistent with the time of year producing some fine Pollack and early Cod. The banks to the west have produced some fine Bass to over 12lb which after being photographed were duly returned by the anglers.

Fishing Report by Shaun Collins-Lindsay
on Reel Deal (Watchet, Somerset)
20 Apr 2017 by Shaun Collins-Lindsay
Report on-board Reel Deal
On the 20 April Clive and myself set off from Hampshire heading for North Devon to go fishing for Porbeagle sharks the closest realitive to the Great White. The day was perfect slightly over cast with light winds and a light tide. We arrived at Ilfracombe and met up with Dan our skipper on Reel Deal. We set off on our journey heading south towards Lundy Island, once we were past the Island Dan Checked the drift while the tackle was being set up. 6 rods were put over the side all set at different depths, the chum buckets were put out and the slick flattens the water nicely with all the dead baits sitting perfectly in the slick, it now was a waiting game. Whilst we were waiting for the either a screaming reel or waiting to see our floats start bobbing we started fishing for Pollock and Mackerel. A couple off Pollock were caught, Dan said that we were about to approach the reef were he would expect to catch a Shark. He wasn't wrong Dan noticed the middle float disappear, it was on and the battle started. This was a big Porbeagle she made lots of big runs but as we had a small team on board we all shared the pain. The way this shark was fighting Dan knew we were into a really big Porbeagle Shark, this fish would turn out to be the biggest fish that I have ever landed topping my black Marlin from Kenya. So after an hour and half of being beaten up by this powerful shark, she had tired and I was given the honours to bring her up to the boat. After a couple of desperate runs she came up to the boat, when she surfaced everyone was flabbergasted at the size of her, this Porbeagle was full of pup and massive in the range of 450lbs - 500lbs. Dan was going to tag her but as she had put up such a spirited fight we all agreed to release her straight away with out putting any more stress on her. She swam away from the boat perfectly back to the depths. So straight back into the fishing hoping to catch another monster it wasn't long until one broke the surface swimming around our floats , again everyone waiting in anticipation for those reels to start screaming but nothing happened, the hours past and we were just about to head for home when one of the reels started screaming the fight was on, this fish was using the boat to its advantage giving me a merry dance around the boat but after 15 Mins this shark managed to shake the hook. This was a fantastic day on board Reel Deal with a great skipper Dan Hawkins who put us on the Shark and what a Shark it was. Porbeagle 450lbs - 500lbs

Report on-board Silver Spray II
April '17
Things are hotting up on the inshore side with the first decent hits of bream rattling the baits last week on the spring tide. A range of sizes up to about 2lb were on show, we usually expect to see the bigger fish arrive a couple of weeks after the first ones. It's nice to see so many anglers using circle hooks to target the bream to cause minimum damage as they are mostly catch and release. Out on the wrecks the pollock are still in abundance on the drift. Last weekend we had a tow for sandeels whilst turbot fishing using our trawl and then used the sandeels to great effect to target the pollock. We have had the first summer cod and bonus john dory out on the wrecks as well, which is a good couple of weeks earlier than last year, let's hope this is a good sign of things to come. And finally our fishing at anchor hasn't slowed up at all with plenty of decent spurdogs around despite the warmer temperatures. Ian Napier landed a cracking PB of 20lb the other day, one of 3 he had during a short spell over slack water. Fish of the Month definitely goes to Dean Lodge of Species Hunt UK for his 22lb 2oz undulate ray he caught during a hectic day on one of the banks south of Poole. Beating our previous boat record by 2lb. Off to Alderney for the first time this year tomorrow.
