Fishing Report by Philip Higgins

Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3
During a local angling club competition T Callaway who up to last month had never caught a Conger landed another big eel of 60lb on a 15lb class rod fishing for Rays, lots more eels were bought to the boat along with Blondes to 25lb B Honeybun and a bonus inshore Pollack of 10lb for A Johanson. Storm Doris bought chaos to any fishing for a few days with strong winds and very big seas but nowhere near as powerful as last winter’s storms which by this time had passed the letter I in the alphabet. The 1st weekend of March produced yet more strong winds but a brief weather window allowed a few hours fishing which for the time of year proved very successful with several Rays to 10lb lots of small Hounds and Dogs and 2 small Turbot. It is good to see the arrival of the Plaice, although on the thin side they are feeding and will soon be in good condition, each trip is seeing better numbers. On the outer marks Bull Huss Congers, Rays and Spurs to 23lb are being caught on regular basis and further off to sea the wrecks are producing some nice catches of Pollack up to 17lb. S Bullas and his group had a good day on the Pollack with some good double figure fish being landed and plenty of banter. As winter lets go and spring temperatures rise we will see the arrival of Bream , Gurnards, Turbot Brill and Mackeral followed by the predatory fish Bass Tope and Sharks.

Report on-board Silver Spray II
I'll pick up where I left off in the last report, we have completed our first few wreck trips to target the pollock. The first drift of the year is proving hard to beat with Jamie Hayes landing a monster of 17lb 8oz, Andy Hayden catching the years first ling and Bob Morrison boating his first of 3 doubles that day. Fishing has been steady on all the trips out to the wrecks, clarity in the water is still very good and we should get a good few more weeks before the bloom comes in and the pollock become a bit more elusive for a while and we focus on the cod. Elsewhere we have had our first trip down to the shambles, plenty of sand eels on the feathers but only a few turbot to show for our efforts. The fishing will pick up as we move on into April and the temperature rises again. And finally the offshore banks have been producing some enormous hits of spur dogs, nothing too big yet, but a few fish around the 20lb mark show that the big ones are on their way. Although the weather has kept us in mostly over the last few weeks we are looking forward to more of the same over the next month on the fishing front.

Report on-board Supanova II
Managed to sneak out in a tiny weather window on tuesday with Lyle. Must be honest thought it was going to be a lot rougher than it was, good call lyle. A couple of hours traveling and were ready to do battle with that 20lb pollack lyle keeps telling me about. [I think shes called poppy] Some of you have most probably fished with me and my dad Bri, if you have you will know i am by far a better angler than him for he is quite simply rubbish. He lands an odd fish here and there but they are normally very small. It must have been a solar eclipse because he did actually land one more than me. Obviously mine were bigger but i suppose i have to be nice sometimes and let him think he won. (family politics and all that) Trevor Lockyer landed a coalfish on the second drift which i think went 10lb, a cracking fish by any ones standard.Bri romped away early the scores being 3-1 but lyle was quick to help by being 'otherwise engaged' with the net as number 4 escaped boat side, i think it was something to do with the £10 i gave him.! A smallish tide and coming up to slack did not see the fish rise up in the water, instead they were mainly under 20 turns. The new tide came but it was hard work, a couple of moves and my rod slams over i,m glad i had my reel serviced as this could be poppy. I gain line and lose it quicker but manage to control the mighty beast. In the meantime Bri's rod seems to be a little bent as well (normally the wreck) but he seems to have caught a blind pollack. Trying to steal the lime light he lands a15lb+ fish but my fish is still diving (stand clear dear daddy let the master have some room) but the dives are getting shorter and less powerful then i can see leader. After lyle fails to knock it off the hook shes on the deck i have a bigger one than you i tell dad, his face beaming with two great fish on the boat. A tad over 17lb means poppy is still out there none the less a great fish. It was a good fun day with good company with everyone catching fish, thanks Lyle. Final scores Bri 8 Stu 7 I didn't lose i came second.!! Photo on Lyles facebook page. PS Bri keeps the scores in his book but he seems to write in pencil, something fishy going on here i believe................

Fishing Report by Peter Davis
on Warrior II (Looe, Cornwall)

Report on-board Warrior II
Hi all, just a quick report to say sorry for the lack of reports !!!! The winter has been quiet, we did get out after the Porbeagles on 1st of December after reports from the commercial hand liners that they were getting them on the hand line gear but to no avail with us. Steve Dawe did have several really good whiting even then but have not been out since. The time has come to sort out the boat (painting, repairs and renewals) for the coming season (which is very heavily booked) but if you need to book let me know as I already have 1 or 2 cancellations. The highlight of last season was the brilliance of it all !! nearly 500 sharks from Force Ten topped off by this beauty of a blue , caught by Guy Radford and measured 117" X 39" and 94" fork measurement. est at 180 + lb. In addition to this we saw lots of Bluefin Tuna and a couple were caught by the Looe Shark Boats so with all this we are looking forward to this season with baited breath !!. will keep you all better informed this year . Tight Lines, Pete

Fishing Report by Ross Parham
on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)
Feb 2017 by Ross Parham
Report on-board Spot On!
February has yet again been another lost month due to the constant strong winds hitting the south west.
With a break in the weather for a 4 day period we hit the mid channel wrecks in search of big Pollock, with every wreck we hit it was netted so on we moved again, yet again another net, boats coming up from Mevagissy to net Devon's wrecks and then local boats from Plymouth also netting makes life very difficult at time, only consolation was seeing a French trawler tow next to a wreck and then watch the dahn boys of the wreck nets disappear behind him.
We were not disheartened and soon Spot On was on the money once again with loads of Pollock hitting the deck with double figure fish every drift.
Some absolutely cracking fishing was had by all over the 4 days and as you can see from the recent pictures it was your truly who had a go when just 4 anglers on the boat and caught and I caught a whopper Pollock of
21lb 2oz.
Just 4 trips in February for 'Spot On' from Brixham in Devon. Lets hope March gives better weather.
Brixhams Summer Plaice competition is filling and spaces are limited so if you would like more details on this please get in touch.
Thanks to Mark from Top Rigs who came down for some fun and had a his fair share of fish, we will be trying his ling traces out very soon.
Also sidewinder Lures for tempting all the great fish we have caught to the net.
Spot On still has plenty of individual spaces available for day trips as well as Guernsey trips and Cornwall trips.
