Report on-board Bessie Vee
At the opening of our season on the 2nd April, we were able to catch plenty of mackerel for bait for the day. We had a very successful day fishing a couple of small wrecks around 14 miles from the coast, drifting for ling using baited cod feathers. Tides were too strong for anchoring on wrecks. The biggest ling were up to 20lb, and Marcin's group had over 20 ling to take home with them.
On the 3rd April, with a different group of more experienced anglers, we went off 25 miles to another small wreck where we tried the same, drifting for ling with cod feathers. Again, we had much success, with plenty of ling - the top angler landing eight, ranging from 8 - 18lb; but the best of the day went to Graham, with his 35lb ling - showing that this is the ideal time of year to catch big ling, as it was carrying 8lb roe.View Boats Page

What a lovely Day
Wehad been blown off our first couple of bookings with Frank so were looking forward to a day out. Weather was said to be 3-4's and few showers but turned out to be a day of lovely sunshine and flay seas with absolutely no rain. We approached a site Frank said could produce somel lunkers but they would be few but good fish and Nikki our sole lady memebr currently started the ball rolling with a couple of lovely cos 8-10lb ish. We moved several times as Frank was more upset we were not catching enough fish than we were. we moved to a spot where all seven members hooked into Cod, seral 7-10lb's and 13lb and 15lb.
Frank and Guy work bloomin hard to get you on the fish and take a bit of advice from someone who fishes a greatdeal "listen to the skipper they know what they are talking about".
Skipper, look forward to sesion in August for the big bream and wrecks for cod ,pollack and congers and again in Oct for Bass etc
Great , Skipper, great Fishing, great weather this is the right order ofr a good day out

A beautiful and calm March day saw a group of enthusiastic Anglers steam out aboard Atlantic Diver to venture into the Cod grounds that Chris had been hearing were teaming with fish all week . Delighted fishermen...and women.....caught up to 70 cod on baited feathers . a large ten pounder was the day's biggest catch and all returned home exhausted from the chase with sack fulls of line caught fish ready for the oven.Brilliant day out..beautiful scenery ..Razorbills , Gannets and Cormorants all added to the day's enjoyment.

Report on-board Atlantic Diver / Atlantic Explorer
Fish, fish and more fish...made for exciting days and happy anglers this year aboard Atlantic Diver and our latest acquesition the Bounty . 8-9lb codling were coming in plentiful supply all summer. Tope in all sizes up to 35lb were a regular catch during late season and left fishermen taking back tales to the pub ( not literally) of their exciting haul as well as leaving smiles on the faces of skippers Chris Lowe and Aaron Trebillcock. (All sharks were returned to the sea as per the SSACN Tope Code of Best Practise). 12lb pollack, conger eel, 15lb ling, wrasse , john dory, red, grey and striped gurnard, black bream, garfish, smooth hound and of course copious amounts of good sized mackerel fit for the bar-b-que. A visit from TV chef Valentine Warner to eat what we caught proved very fruitful and sitting back in the breath takingly beautiful Newquay Bay whist the spoils of the day were cooked for us on board proved to be one of the most enjoyable days work we,ve had. An appearance by a pod of playful bottlenose dolphins jumping in our bow waves rounded the day off to perfection!!!!! Thanks Aaron for the tip off.
Regular customer John Crisp booked a months fishing on and off with family and friends late season and caught more in a days fishing with Atlantic Diver than all season at home in South Hampton....Happy Days!! He spent the rest of his Cornish adventure tasting the delights of Falmouth Oysters and pints of Skinners Penny-Come-Quick real ale at the Falmouth Oyster Festival. as well as sampling the delights of Newquay.
The season continues throughout the winter for those interested as we start up the smoker......hmmmm yummy.

Fishing Report by Thomas Lessels

Report on-board Bessie Vee
My name is Tom Lessels, 53 years old, I travelled from my home in Stonehaven, on holiday again in June to Mevagissey (for the 6th year in a row) to fish on Dave Hunkin's," Bessie Vee". Wreck fishing for Conger, Pollock, and other species. I had 5 trips out this holiday during June along with other regulars and holidaymakers I have met on previous years. After stopping off for mackerel on route he anchored-up over a wreck where I landed 8 Conger all together. This was the best number of awsome quality fighting eels in one day ( 16 June 2010) for me so far, ( all catch-and-release). I was exhausted each time but was kept revived with cups of hot tea and verbal abuse from the 'galley-boy'.(Skipper Dave).
On another day he took us over Pollack, some big double figure fish which kept diving back into the wreck until you eventually gained control, lost a few stonkers when I had failed to slacken my reel drag sufficiently. Jelly worms( Dave's secret colour), Red-Gills and Sidewinders all worked.
I have had three personal best wreck species, Conger, Ling and Pollack all with Dave, all qualifying for the Shimano Badge. He picks different wrecks each trip covering several at distance, weather permitting, each time.
These trips with Dave set me up for handling bigger fish and eels, and a good variety of species when I go to various other venues. I have had great tips for rigs, experience of handling quality fish which have improved my performance in the competitions which I fish annually through my work.
After the trips on this holiday I went back home 'charged-up' with enthusiasm for the sport. I fished on 28th August 2010 in the Police Sport (UK) National Boat Championships 2010 at Stromness, Orkney ( see the report on the Police Sport UK website ). I won both the individual Champion and Species Trophy (12 species) against more than 100 competitors. If my head was not big enough already I fished next day, 29th August 2010 in the Scottish Police Boat Championship also out of Stromness, I manged to bag both joint winner and species position along with Keith Wilkinson from Ross-shire. I could not believe my 'Donald-Duck' two coveted titles in two days. It was better than a grand slam. It is incredible that I gained my experience on Bessie Vee in the far south west of our British Isles only to travel to the north east extreme corner to hook-a-win. An awesome year for me, one I will never forget. I will be back on Bessie-Vee next year for more action and to hone my skills and get a good slagging off from the knowledgeable and great Cornish Skipper.View Boats Page

Report on-board Bessie Vee
Sunday, 1st August.
As some of the inshore wrecks are being overly frequented, took 2 hours to steam 30 miles looking for ling for this group. Slack water was at mid-day, so we managed to have time at anchor despite the fairly big tide.
Anchoring for the last of the flood-tide, fishing was quiet with two or three small ling and a couple of conger (with quite heavy loss of tackle)!
Things improved greatly on the ebb, with 30 fish caught, the best of which were ling at 26 and 24lb. All congers were returned successfully. We finished off the day with a few handy pollock on the drift, having managed five hours of fishing on a nine hour day.View Boats Page

26 miles from Mevagissey harbour today, to treat the boys to some deep water pollack. Caught a few ling and two conger on the slack water, with no success drifting, so we moved to another wreck where the pollack and cod were feeding.
Andy Woodford, the best of the eight anglers fishing, managed to land twelve pollack and a cod, and also the best pollack of the day, an 18lb - er. Everyone caught pollack, between 6 and 14lb, and half a dozen small cod, the best of which was 11lb.
All in all, a successful day, and well worth going a few extra miles!View Boats Page

24th July, 2010
Took nine anglers 20 miles out into the Channel for a day trip looking for pollock and cod today. Good numbers of pollock, though no great size - the best reaching 10 - 12lb. Better cod catches, and surprised by a blue shark which took the bait on the way down. After two laps of the boat, we managed to get it alongside just long enough to see it before it parted the angling trace!
All the boats sharking today managed to catch, top boat being the Swallow from Looe, with four, two of which reached 100lb!
We saw a blue yesterday on the surface, so it seems like they have arrived for summer.View Boats Page

Bass fishing in Falmouth Bay, 11th July 2010
After commercial boats had caught 45 and 50 bass respectively on the day before, we headed for Falmouth Bay where birds have been working. After a short while, we caught a couple of small bass, and then had a 2 hour wait for the birds to reappear. We then caught a 5lb 7oz bass, and another smaller one. All over in a short while, so we anchored on a wreck in the afternoon and caught 25 conger, the best of which was 45lb in the short period of slack water.
The bass seem to be a one-off phenomena in this area (5-6 miles off land), so no particular marks, just following the bird signs.View Boats Page
