After having a poor day on Saturday, decided to try further off today. some nice fish caught everybody had some fish to take home. Best fish of the day was a 17lb cod caught by Noel which was his personal best. Lets hope we can catch the same quality in the summer festival which we still have some midweek dates available.

Sunday saw Whitby's Premier charter boat Trot On visit a few offshore wrecks searching for clearer water due to the weeks winds which had clouded the water inshore a little. We were pestered by seals on several wrecks but still managed to bag a mixture of Cod, Pollack and Ling to around 6lb caught on a mixture of Shad, Bait and Hokki's
Regular Trot On angler Chris Mangan had quite a fight with one seal who decided he wanted Chris's Cod for his dinner. Unfortunately the seal won. Although the score for the day ended with Chris 0 - Sammy the Seal 1
All the anglers had plenty of other fish to take home.
Chris won the W.C.S.A Summer festival last year aboard Trot On with a MASSIVE Ling of 33lb 4oz which netted Chris £5000 for the 1st place prize. The 2018 Summer festival starts on June 23rd till July 15th. Pete Devonland from Warwickshire and his 6 mates joined us yesterday for their 1st trip of the year.
A nice gentle offshore breeze welcomed us on the morning so we decided a run to a couple of offshore wrecks was in order to start the day.
First stop didn't produce much at all to be honest with just a couple of codling and a dozen mackerel coming up.
The second mark however proved to be a good move with fish coming aboard from the off. The lads took around 50 fish from it which pretty much saw us through to the end of the day as we had a good distance to run back home.
The fish of the day was this beauty caught by Terry from London weighing in at 17 lb 14 oz. My lad Adam reminded me that the Summer competition starts next weekend and it would have been great to catch him then! We will be chasing his bigger brother then!!!!!!
Great to see you all again lads and we look forward to sailing with you again.

Its been around a week since our last update from Whitby.
We've had a mixed week with ups and downs with weather. The better fishing is still inshore. We've seen a mixture of species including Ballan wrasse. Sea scorpions, tadpole fish, lesser spotted doggies plus the usual suspects.
We've worked wrecks and reefs with baited hokkais and shads over the smaller tides and as theyve lifted weve hàd more northerly swell and the inshore has coloured up again so we got the anchor back out the last two days.
Our best day was yesterday uptiding where between 6 of us we boated over 100 codlings best angler getting over 30 himself. The biggest was ounces short of 10lb.
We've plenty of space midweek and also over the upcoming festival. The entry fee is usually around £5 per person on top of your charter fee.

Monday 11th June. A scheduled 7 hour trip turned into 8.5 hours thanks to Neil keeping us catching some lovely cod.
Fished the southern land rock in almost perfect conditions with very light winds and a smallish tide. The catch consisted of almost all cod in the 3 to 7lb range and in excess of 70 keepers to the boat with no end of smaller fish returned.
The fish came to both bait and lures, fresh worms and mussel took a lot of fish but the stand out bait was undoubtedly a large squid bait which although didn't take the numbers of fish as the worms it certainly produced the bigger stamp.
Best lures were a sandeel type of shad with all colours seemingly effective.
All in all a fantastic enjoyable day with plenty of top quality fillets for the freezer. View Boats Page

A few good days, a few not so good days on the boat this last week.
The weather has been the main problem here on the East coast and has taken the edge off what was extremely good fishing a week ago. I would say the last few trips we have averaged around 30 to 40 cod per trip, which is a drop on the catch rate a week ago.
A Northerly swell has also hindered us a bit too, colouring the water up a bit on the more inshore marks. It will clear again soon though hopefully.
The summer comp starts here at Whitby on Sat 23rd June.
We only have 2 days left now with any room.
They are :-

Had the guys on from Bournemouth for 2 days COD galore for these guys
Had rob and the boys on from Bournemouth Sunday and Monday and they hit the jackpot on Sunday the quality of the fish was very good indeed non stop action more or less all morning shads smashed it here is rob the organiser with a real nice fish just a smidge of there haul . View Boats Page

Today saw a varied group aboard Trot On. We tried the wrecks on the inside. From the 1st drift we had a steady flow of Coddling coming aboard with fish to around 6lb falling to a mixture of Bait, Hokki's and shads . We ended the day with around 90 Coddling and Ling to keep as well as numerous under size fish that were released to fight another day. Ryan from Bolton had a trip out with his dad and showed him how it was done. We also had the Wakefield boys who had a good box between the 3 of them. With the W.C.S.A Summer festival starting on the 23rd of this month till July 15th with a 1st place prize of £5000 things are looking up for yet another festival win for Whitby's premier charter boat Trot On.

Another fantastic days fishing with the skipper Frank the sea was a bit rough but once again Frank put us right on top of the big cod if you ever decide to go fishing at Bridlington this is the boat and skipper you need to go with thanks once again Frank we will be back soon
