Anouther belting trip today which we decided to do a species hunt.
Which josh mananaged to get 8 species
Cod
Pollock
Thornback
Ballen wrasse
Thornback ray
Whiting
Coalfish
Mackerel
Heaviest fish was a pollock 11 1/2lb
Many fish were returned to fight anouther day

8 hour inshore fishing trip today
Some fantastic fishing today started really skow with only mackerel showing so we decided to target some rays for a bit until the tide started coming through.
Then we moved back on to the rough ground and had some frantic cod and pollock fishing
Some cracking pollock were caught around the 5lb to 10lb area and some cod around 8lb
We have a 8 hour trip running tomorrow with some spaces and several trips running daily over the next few months

Saturday saw us joined by the boys from Hull, Due to the big tides fishing was going to be hard work, However the boys were in good spirits with plenty of banter. We started off fishing for Mackerel as fresh bait was going to be order of the day. After finding the bait we moved onto the first wreck where the fish were coming a few each drift. Skipper Paul "Dolly" Eddon decided to move to find better fishing for the lads we tried 7 or 8 wrecks with only a picking of fish showing off each one so a move to the ground was in order. The boys did better at the turn of tide with coddling, Pollack, Pouting, Whiting and Ling to 7lb all being caught. The boys enjoyed it so much they re-booked for a trip in September in the W.C.S.A late summer festival where Trot On has an enviable record of finding the £1000 BIG FISH. Great to meet you boys and see you in September

Fishing off Scarborough today first couple of drift's were on mackerel constant then we moved south were we caught cod 3 to 4lb were plentiful. A good supply of Pollock up to 7lb mark.plenty of large mackerel in between.

Tuesday saw us joined by Trot On regular Big Andy Pendlebury from Goole fishing in the W.C.S.A summer festival.
Due to looking for the "Festival winning fish" Fresh Bait was the order of the day. We first started of looking for the Mackerel as we were going to need plenty of bait .
Paul "Dolly" Eddon was the man to find them. Out on the 3 mile mark we had a manic 15 mins and must have had over 10st aboard. Arriving at our 1st wreck just in time for Slack water everyone was on fresh mackerel flappers trying to tempt a big Ling. We did manage coddling and Ling to 10lb but no "monster crocs" as the tide started running. Dolly suggested Big Andy try a jigger / baited Jigger. Always one to take the skippers advice Andy swapped from bait to baited jigger. On the 2nd jig he connected to a very nice cod of 15lb 6.5 oz which took the daily festival win. Okay here goes,
I was suffering from what I thought was a really very bad back a number of weeks ago (8) I went to the Dr's and they firstly suggested that that was what it was from excessive workload with the fencing contracting business I also run along with the boat. It was an exceptionally busy year this year for the fencing. Several visits on from there and the pain becoming ever more intense we decided to investigate with ever more tests. You name the test and I underwent it!!
It has turned out that I have a cancer in my blood called "Multiple- Myeloma" This has attacked my T6 vertebrae and partially my T10 in my back which is what has been upsetting me and giving me a lot of pain. A good thing really that it has come out somewhere as it could have gone unnoticed for even longer!!
Fortunately, they have detected it very early and we started the treatment "Full on" last Friday. The cancer isn't a curable one yet, but IS very treatable. I am going to be one of the very treatable patients!! Positive thoughts all the way.
All positive vibes in response only please. We are NOT doing negativity at all on this one.
Sadly, this has left my 2016 season up in the air and I am hoping to be active on the water again in 2017. Not sure when exactly as this will depend on my on going treatments. I will not be sailing until the end of the 2016 season. We will have to see what the pain levels are like come December and go from there. Anyone who has deposits on with us can be assured that they are safe with us until we are ready to sail again.
I thought I would tell everyone my news before they heard it through IDLE chittle chattle here at Whitby or from anyone anywhere else.

Sea -Otter 2 wins the £5000 top prize in the Whitby charter skippers summer festival Fred King will be dancing now £5000 richer well done Fred we also got 3rd and 4 th joint top heaviest in the competition plus we also got the biggist cod another great festival for the lads and lasses its the 4 th time the top prize of £5000 has been won In the last 7 years on Sea-Otter 2 .

Finished the yorkshire coast sea swim with a fantastic team beating the time they managed 2 years ago.
16 Hours 9 minutes 38 seconds fron Staites to Speeton
Hopefully they have set a new record and the swim can be ratified by BLDSA.

First trip out on Mistress this year. We were quite lucky with the weather as forecast wasn't that good. We sailed an hour later than usual giving a chance for the wind to die down and the waters to calm a little. Suits me just fine as I have a long drive to get to Whitby. Anyway, once we were out, all caught a few mackerel for bait then onto some wrecking. Fishing wasn't hectic but a few good sized cod and ling were taken, ranging from 6 to 10 pounders. As always Richard works hard to keep us on the fish and helps everyone with bringing fish in and with the tangles some get into. Overall a good days fishing with enough caught to keep everyone happy. In my opinion Richard a faultless skipper. Looking forward to my next trip, hopefully asap. See ya soon Rich.
