Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
The settled weather conditions continue, so we were back at it again today. With the Autumn Festival starting tomorrow, I took the opportunity to have a days fishing with seven of my regular anglers. Irrespective of the fishing, I knew it would be a brilliant day, with loads of banter.
View Boats Page
After yesterdays excellent results, we headed back to the six mile stream to try a few more wrecks. It was a real “pea souper” today, the fog never lifted, but the drift on the wrecks with the light winds was ideal. We gathered the Mackerel we needed for the day from the Bell Buoy, then headed to our first wreck.
On arrival, everyone dropped over and before I could even get my own bait down; one, two, three, four then five rods were all into decent fish at once!! I ended up playing gillie and netted a succession of decent Ling to 10lb. What a great start!
That wreck kept us entertained for a couple hours producing plenty of Ling for everyone between 6-10lb and then it was time for the Rob Waterworth show to start…. in the space of about 30 minutes Rob helped himself to a brace of Ling totalling 31lb 8oz!!
First up was a real scrapper which tested his brand new Daiwa Super Kenzaki to the limit, pushing the scales round to 18lb 4oz and he followed it up with a 13lb 4oz fish shortly after. Both fell for muppet bait traces with a fresh Mackerel fillet on the hooks.
I don’t actually recall a single drift all day where we didn’t catch. Like yesterday, the Codling were pretty scarce and we only took half a dozen or so for the day, but the Ling sport more than made up for it.
The time simply flew by, which is always a sign of a great day in great company. A massive thanks to the boys for one of my most enjoyable days…..UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Report on-board Shy-Torque III
Yesterday’s team were treat to some cracking flat calm and (sunny at times) weather. The fishing on the other hand wasn’t so cracking!!
View Boats Page
We played around on the rock top to start the day, looking for the Mackerel.
They were a little hard to come by, but after three or four drifts we had gathered enough for the day.
We dropped down to couple of the inshore marks which gave us some stunning fishing for four days on the last set of small tides. Nothing much at all, so down to the next mark we steamed.
A handful of small fish to chuck back that’s all and nothing on the Shads.
I figured that the “booling” Spring tides just gone had stirred the shallower waters so we moved out some wrecks in deeper water.
No great shakes on any of them with just a couple here and a couple there.
Thank goodness for the Mackerel bait as it was the only thing that caught for us!
Tally for the day, around 20 keepers, with the usual chuck backs.
Cheers for now,
Rich

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
After a week’s family holiday to recharge the batteries and miss the huge Spring tides, we were back at it again yesterday. With nobody having being at sea, it was a blank start, not knowing what areas were working etc.
View Boats Page
With a 5.2m tide, it was going to be a mixed day of wrecks and rough ground. Slack water was around midday, so we spent the morning working the rough ground at 5, 7 & 9 miles. The 5 mile ground did us a few Ling, the best going 9lb. We chased around all day for an odd tiny Ling, Whiting, and Pouting. It wasn’t until slack water that a small wreck did a couple more decent fish. Mark Gilbert taking a nice plump 13lb Ling as the biggest of the day.
I believe the problem was that there is too much feed in the water. The Herring and associated spawn is in the water at the moment and we were completely surrounded by Minke Whales, Seals, Dolphins, diving Gannets etc. all day. By contrast, the meagre offerings we presented just couldn’t compete with the all you can eat buffet!
Today I felt we needed a change of plan for Alan and his friends who had the boat booked. We grabbed the Mackerel we needed from the Bell Buoy and then had a quick drift on the 3 mile ground. Nothing had changed and we had the wildlife around us again, so I set off to find an area that had a lot less activity. A smaller tide allowed us to get on some wrecks in the 6 mile stream and we only fished three for the day. The first one wasn’t great, but as soon as we started to lose the flood tide, things kicked in nicely for the rest of the day.
It’s the time of year for “them” and we took anything from 3-7 Ling a drift, with an odd rouge Codling. There were a few decent fish amongst them as well. So Yee Kwok had her first double at just over 10lb but first time sea angler Kelvin stole the show when he hooked what was obviously a decent fish. He played it well and eventually we shuffled a decent Ling which just missed the twenty at 19lb 8oz. How’s your Luck!!
The fresh Mackerel on muppet bait traces really did the job today. Thanks to everyone for a great couple of days back at work. Fantastic to have you on board.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Fishing Report by Nick Gough
on Skylark (Scarborough, North Yorkshire)
1 Sep 2023 by Nick Gough
Report on-board Skylark
Today we had a 6hr trip planned with a 3hr and a 2hr afterwards
View Boats Page
We set off at 9am and the customers were been quite impatient so we decided to get fishing ASAP on a rock mark close to the harbour and strait away was into mackerel. This kept the customers happy and we had several runs managing to find a good few cod and Pollock also.
As fishing slowed down with ebbing tide reducing we decided to run further up the coast to get some more tide.
Again we found more mackerel, a few more cod and some whiting just off the rock.
As soon as the tide started turning the sea started building to a good meter which wasn't forecast and with a few of the customers suffering the effects of sea sickness we decided to run back for some shelter to from the swell. As we ran back the sea carried on building. Unfortunately conditions had picked up to the point it was unfishable so we were forced to return earlier than expected.
As we approached the harbour we did see some bottle nose dolphins in the harbour mouth again.
We cancelled the 2 hour trip at this point and the 3 hour trip we cancelled in person as the customers had travelled and paid for the parking so we offered to take them on a free ride out to see the dolphins for half an hour.
As soon as we left the harbour they soon released why we had cancelled the trip and after a bit of searching they all managed to see the dolphins heading south. -

Report on-board Skylark
Today we had a 6 hour trip to start with fishing was instant for us this morning as mentioned in a previous social post the skipper got a cracking 9lb 3oz Pollock which ended up been the heaviest fish of the day.
View Boats Page
Overall the customers had a few cod and Pollock was slow going compared to what we have seen recently but with the winds and the tides its coloured the water a bit but lures were still working.
Once the ebbing tide was gone we kept moving marks trying to locate the fish and it was slow going for a bit until we found the tide again.
The 3 hour trip was slow starting with a few Pollock showing and a few cod we tried several marks to try and pick up some mackerel but with no success until the last 30 minutes of the trip and we then managed to find them in abundance.
On the way back to the harbour we saw all the passenger boats stationary in the harbour entrance when we looked closer we noticed a pod of bottle nose dolphins so we came in slightly later than expected and watched the dolphins leave.

Todays trip unfortunately was cut short due to the predicted winds coming earlier than expected but young Charlie did really well winding up fish most drifts as usual
Plenty of plump mackerel as the last few days
As the customers had some fish to take back and the fishing becoming very difficult and tackle hungry due to the wind and tide been together making the drifts really fast we decided to call the trip short after 5hrs

What a fish we had on this mornings trip taken on a Skylark Tackle 100mm sawamura shad available at

https://www.skylarktackle.co.uk/product-page/4inch-sawamura-shad-100mm-x3-per-pack
The Cod weighed 20lb 3oz and was 94cm long.
Overall another good trip with some nice clean fillets coming onboard along with plenty of large mackerel some of them were close to 2lb alone
Shads seemed to have the advantage today to keep away from the mackerel a bit but we did catch quite a few mackerel on the shads also.

We had just the 3 lads on with us today.
Regular angler Daryll, Jamie and Gary.
We started at the bouy and took around a dozen Mackerel in as many seconds!
Plenty enough for the three of them.
First stop after that was literally 5 minutes from the bouy and straight away the lads were into the fish.
Codling, Pollack and a few other bits and pieces to throw back.
At around 9.30am we ran another mile or so to a little area known as the “Funnel”
The three of them picked steadily until the tide was ripping through too strong giving a drift of nearly two knots.
At 2.0pm we all agreed that we had caught plenty enough and we returned for the 3.0.clock bridge opening.
Best fish going to Jamie, a lovely Cod of 9lbs.
Tally for the four of us, some 60+ fish.
Not bad for just a short trip!!
Cheers lads and hopefully we will see you a week on Thursday when the tides are running nice for us again at 4.6m.
Room for individuals that day if anyone is interested.
Let’s get back at em!!
Cheers
Rich

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
Catch report aboard sea Urchin over the last few days……apologies for the lack of reports, but I’ve not been feeling brilliant and haven’t been in my usual routine.
View Boats Page
Saturday saw a full boat booking for the Milnrow Sea Angling Club, by Paul Whiting, with a lovely group of boys. With a small tide we spent the day on wrecks. The lads fished baited Hokkai’s and Muppet Traces in the main.
We ran North initially, but the wrecks on the Ebb were rubbish. The fish just didn’t seem to be feeding. Heading back to a couple of wrecks in the five mile steam saw things come to life and us put together a few fish for the remainder of the day.
Sunday saw us fish a mix of wrecks and rough ground inside. The conditions on the wrecks were not the easiest with NW winds holding the drift up, but the more experienced anglers caught plenty. We moved to ground hard inside when the tide turned, and caught mainly Codling on a mix of bait and shads.
Monday was spent with a group of regulars and we fished most of the day on the rough ground, close in. We picked up some nice fish during the day, with So Yee Fong taking the best Cod at 9lb 4oz. Bait and Shads produced plenty of bites.
Thanks to all the anglers for their support and apologies for the crap report. I’m away now on a well overdue family holiday for a week. A good time to recharge the batteries while Whitby gets its biggest Spring Tides of the year.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Well, it stuck for the third time in the same place for us yesterday. Unreal!
Saturday gone-Exceptional days fishing.
Sunday-Fantastic days fishing
Yesterday-Another fantastic days fishing.
In fact, the last couple of days were basically a carbon copy of each other.
The only thing that was different was the different faces aboard.
One of those faces being that of Holly Stewart, an old friend from West Yorkshire who now lives in NZ.
She was visiting her parents in Huddersfield for a month and came across for a days fishing.
She’s mad bonkers about angling and spends a lot of her time in NZ on the water.
A few tips from Fergus on how to catch our kinds of fish and she was off and running.
Holly catching on the shads and the baited rigs and ending up with a dozen or more fish for herself. Fabulous!!
The rest of the group which included Glenn and Nick who fished with us on Sunday too, fished their socks off as well.
Nick and Glenn gathering another full box of prime Codling again.
Mark Davenport and his dad Brian who were newbies to us also having a great day with a “slack box” of fish between them.
Paul from Brid who also fished with us over the Bank holiday weekend knocking 16 fish out for himself.
I managed a few drops myself and knocked out a quick dozen too.
Two of our Chinese customers, Henry and Simon also fishing well.
Henry won the July “fish of the month” prize of a free trip on the Shy-Torque III and used that on yesterday’s trip.
Henry landed a lovely Cod of 13lbs to win that.
Poor “decky” Fergus having no time for a go, with all the help needed getting the fish safely aboard!
All in all another fantastic day on the water with superb craic and banter!
Holly joining in with the great humour aboard too. A true sport!!
The majority of the catch today came at the end of the day when the tide eased back on the flood.
Tally for the day today nudging around the 90-100 mark.
Well done to all who fished with us.
A great day!!
Cheers
Rich.
