Report on-board Skylark
We set off at 8am this morning and the winds were alot stronger than expected but we pushed through it and ended up again with not a bad day at all.
View Boats Page
A good stamp of fish showing around the 3 to 5lb area with some huge mackerel and a few better size pollock
As we fished our last mark of the day a large pod of bottle nose dolphins made a show before we headed back.
Our second trip of the day was a 3 hour which we decided to travel back to where was fishing before and get the first of the ebb. When arriving the tide just hadn't got there yet but as soon as it did the mackerel were back on and a few cod coming over the rails
We did get a better cod on this trip weighing 7lb 2oz
Unfortunately we didn't see the dolphins this trip but all the customers were happy with their bags of fish to take home -

Another belting day on the Cod today for our mixed team of lads yesterday.
View Boats Page
A nice quick stop at the bouy for the Mackerel again and enough for the full team in 5 minutes. Some big Mackerel again too.
We marched back to a similar area we fished with yesterday’s team and things were a bit slow to start off, with just a few fish here and there.
Fortunately there are an abundance of ground marks where we have been working and the rest of the day saw us hopping from ledge to ledge, peak to peak, picking a few fish up everywhere we stopped.
As the tide eased back towards the end of the working day, we moved to another little spot to finish off and the fishing went mad!
More beautiful fresh run Codling/Cod for the lads with a couple of drifts giving them fish to 9lbs. A few doubles coming up too.
The Shads outfished the bait by a long way today but the baited rigs also taking some nice fish.
The quality of the fish over the last day or two has been great. Really healthy/fit fish giving the lads some fun moments.
Glenn Stocks and his son in law Nick took a good full box of fish between them as did father and son team Jeff and Jim McNeil.
Everyone taking plenty of lovely prime fish home for the table.
Tally for the day today, around 100 fish.
Excellent sport for the lads again and the banter was exceptional again too!
Cheers lads and we’ll see you all again soon.

Another great day out today this time on the Cod
View Boats Page
First Mark we went to produced a good few codlings and a cracking 12lb 6oz cod with a load of jumbo size mackerel.
Shads and baited hokkias seamed to work the best today on every mark we went to producing a nice stamp of fish. Overall everyone caught a cod which is always a bonus
Then as we steamed back we were greeted by a load of bottle nose Dolphins just off marine drive
Our 3 hour trip with all new anglers was also as successful as we steamed out we managed to find the same pod of dolphins heading out.
As for the fishing it was pretty much instant with some really nice plump mackerel, a few pouting and again some nice cod occasionally coming over the side.
We did get a single showing of a minke whale also just as we headed in -

Love it when a smaller group charter the boat for themselves.
The baited rigs have been out fishing the artificials of late for our lads so we gathered the Mackerel on the rock top before we headed out.
Whilst we were gathering the bait I noticed a load of birds feeding in a frenzy about a mile South of us, so we decided to give it a go on the inshore shallow marks to start the day. These marks are no deeper than 60ft and often even shallower!!
Straight into fish!
First fish on board taken by Darryl. A nice little Pollack.
Three or four short passes across the ridge giving the lads around 15 fish to keep.
A nice start to the day.
A short move further South next, to an area my crewman Fergus likes to work with his mate Ryan on his little boat in the Summertime.
Again, the lads were hitting the Cod on each drift. A lot of throwbacks, but a steady three or four to keep each pass for four or five drifts.
Then the black monsters arrived and spoilt the party like yesterday and the fishing went dead.
We steamed down a few miles further to a small piece of scrap to try escape the pesky seals.
None to be seen anywhere thank goodness!!
We stayed on this last mark for the rest of the day where the lads took over 70 fish from it!!
Best fish falling to Eric. A lovely Cod of 10lb 8oz. Well done to him! Excellent sport in shallow water!!
Best part about today was, apart from two “Bootlace” Ling and one Pollack, every fish taken was a Codling/Cod.
Without a doubt, the best day of the year so far with over 120 fish boated!
Oh, just to say that, because we had seasoned anglers on today, young Fergus and me also had chance to work the rods ourselves too, which is always a bonus.
I had 15 fish to keep myself, my best going around 8.5lbs.
Fergus however fished like a handcuffed crab today! Hope you’re reading this Paul Mawson!!
Excellent banter with these lads as always and an extremely pleasurable day with perfect conditions and brilliant sport.
Cheers lads and see you all soon.

Our first trip of the day started at 8am What perfect sea conditions with a light easterly breeze

We ran strait out with fishing been steady away from the start mainly codlings around 2 to 4lb. Not as many ling today biting like the day before but the codling definitely made up for that.
Best fish of the day unfortunately wasn't landed due to a unexpected visitor which ripped the entire fish off at the surface then circled the boat for a bit. The unexpected visitor was a shark around 6 to 7 meters in length. After this turned up fishing went very quite compared to this morning so took us a while to get back on the fish again.
Overall the customers had a good amount of fillets to take home
Heaviest fish was a tight one today between a cod weighing 9lb 2oz and a ling at 9lb 1oz
As we were about to return we saw mass of bird diving and about 30 to 40 very large seals feeding amount.
When returning we took a second trip out at 4pm
As fishing seamed to be better further out we decided to have a good steam out
Fishing was steady away with plenty of pouting coming over the rails unfortunately the customers lost the bigger fish been inexperienced and over bulling the fish ripping the hooks. But after advising them how to wind them up they did manage to get some cod, and ling up to 7lb
On the way back we had several sightings of minke whales -

As always we started out on the hunt for the Mackerel which were in good supply at the bouy for the lads. One drift did the job.
I decided to try a few marks further out for a change as I reckoned on nobody being out there for some time. Also a nice change of scenery!!
We started on a small piece of scrap just over 8 miles from port and the lads picked around 20 fish from that. A nice start to the day.
Once the wreck dried up on us we dropped on to one of my favourite little marks. A small ledge rising just a couple of metres which runs West to East around 50 yards.
A great little mark as you can often pick away at it in different parts.
The lads were really on the cod, bringing some nice fish up, when 4 huge seals decided to gate crash and spoilt the party instantly!
Another move then.
We steamed a bit further out to try and escape from the seals and tried what is normally a good wreck to us but today it proved fruitless with just a handful of fish coming aboard.
We still had time to run to a couple more bits of ironwork so we ran back in towards a small wreck split into two pieces.
It fished okay where the lads took another couple of dozen fish from it.
Cod coming aboard to just a shade under 10lbs.
My old mate Paul from Bridlington, who normally beats everyone, fished like a handcuffed crab today and lost many more than he landed!!
Chris Siddle on the other hand had a lovely day with a dozen nice fish to take home.
Another great day with the lads with Fergus getting the usual ear bashing from them!!
At least he managed to get out of bed and made it on time!
Cheers for now,
Rich

Report on-board Skylark
Today we started the day at 8am running out to the inshore wrecks with a lot more wind than what was forecast.
View Boats Page
One of our regulars Dave has been struggling to out-fish other anglers for quite some time. Today was definitely his day bagging the better and most fish
Overall Dave caught 6 cod and 14 ling as well as many pouting
Another angler on the trip first time with us on the skylark. James caught 14 ling, 3 cod, 2 pollack, loads of whiting and pout too
The rest of the other anglers had a good day as well but Dave and James were consistent all day getting a fish nearly every single drift.
Nice to ride home with plenty of tubs of fish and a really good stamp showing
Once we returned we set off with our 3 hour trip at 4pm. Unfortunately the weather wasn't kind for these either with a very downpour as soon as we left the harbour.
we steamed through it to a inshore wreck which instantly produced a nice codling then nothing else. So we ran out into deeper water and was rewarded with some nice size ling, plenty of pouting and a few mackerel and whiting.
Great to see the kids getting stuck in and reaping the rewards.
What a fantastic day for us and the customers hopefully the weather is kind for the next few weeks now -

What a bunch of Campanologist’s I had on board today……….it was a Ding-a-Ling-Ling type of session!!
View Boats Page
With a group of very experienced anglers on board, I was looking forward to the day. A great wrecking tide and light winds (allegedly) would surely see us get amongst a few fish. We headed out early to make the best use of the tide. We got the fresh Mackerel we needed from the Bell Buoy and as slack water approached, we dropped onto a nearby wreck.
First run through, there was only one fish landed, but Dave Sharp didn’t complain with it being a 10lb Ling! The remainder of the slack water period saw us get some decent Ling up to 7lb and Bryan Stanton also had a nice clean 6lb Codling. After a great start we had agreed to run south to fish some wrecks in an area which doesn’t see regular pressure. I was optimistic we would find a good stamp of fish and maybe an odd biggun’.
As we ran down to the first wreck, the wind speed continued to lift. Instead of the forecast SW 6-8mph wind we were up in the 12-14mph zone. As a consequence, the next two hours were purgatory on the four wrecks we fished. We took one strap Ling and that was it….oh dear! The wrecks were marking fish, but instead of us drifting along with the small tide, the fresh SW wind was pushing us straight across the tide. That gave us an unnatural drift and clearly the fish didn’t like it. The only way I could see to improve prospects was to run in a bit closer to land, where there would be more tide.
We nudged back in a couple of miles and the wreck we stopped on, gave two fish first drift. This coincided with the wind finally backing off a bit. This seemed to be the catalyst to get the fish taking the baits. For the next two hours I struggled to keep up. The net was continually being shouted for and I ran around like a “Tit in a Trance” with mainly Ling up to 8lb coming up in numbers every drift. Ian Kellock sneaked a 10lb 4oz Ling which was the biggest we landed, but it was great sport. Mackerel on muppet bait traces dominated, the Shads didn’t get much of a look in today.
Thanks to everyone for a brilliant day out. Top, top angling ladsUPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

m/cycling mate aboard the boat yesterday.
The weather was certainly on our side today with very light breezes.
The Mackerel were still playing at the Bouy too so we took just enough for what we needed for the group and headed off to start our day.
Rough ground to start off which was rubbish to be fair!
Onwards then to a few bits of scrap which only produced a few fish each.
The fresh Mackerel certainly played its part with the Shads and artificials struggling to attract much at all.
Waldek and his mate Bruce (two of our new customers) fished the best out of the group, taking around a dozen fish between them. Valdek also taking the heaviest of the day with a nice Ling a shade over 10lbs.
Not the best of days for numbers of fish boated but a very pleasant day at sea for one and all.
Tally for the day around 40 fish.
Cheers

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
We’ve seen the back of the Spring tides for now and today we were back in wrecking mode with a nice 4.8m tide and light winds. A lovely mixed group aboard, some more experienced than others, but everyone got on well, which always makes for a good day out.
View Boats Page
The Mackerel bash didn’t go too well, with just random single Mackerel coming up. I didn’t want to waste too much time, so we got cracking. Everyone brought Squid with them, so those who were short on Mackerel, still had bait. The first few wrecks weren’t brilliant. Just odd fish here and there. There were a lot of tangles to sort out every drift, as the boat twisted in the very light wind and tide, which cost us fishing time.
After a couple of hours, everyone had got off the mark with a few fish and then the tide just started to ease on the run into slack water. Jamie Britton switched over from bait to a red Shad and got one or two nice Codling a drift. He was top rod today by some margin, giving a very solid display of angling. Reading the tide and wind situations well.
Allan Knaggs is part of the furniture on Sea Urchin, having crewed many times over the years and today had a days fishing. He took half a dozen Ling to 8lb and the same of Codling. He rang the changes between muppet bait traces and shads and caught consistently.
We fished another three wrecks for the day and there was a picking off each of them. Whilst we didn’t manage to catch anything huge, the biggest Cod of the day fell to Simon at 8lb 4oz, who fished mainly with the Slow-Pitch Jigs all day.
All in all it was a very enjoyable day, thanks to all the lads for a great day out.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl
