Report on-board TROT- ON
Saturday saw us joined by the boys from CSSC who were fishing the Yorkshire qualifier for the CSSC national boat fishing species comp. With only the top 3 going through to the Finals competition was rife. We started off on the ground at 9 miles with a mixture of Codling, Haddock Whiting, and Pouting falling to rag, squid and mussel baits. We had a move to a wreck for slack water hoping to pick up some Ling and skipper Paul Eddon was spot on the money with several of the boys picking up more Cod and Ling ALL were point scoring fish. When the tide started to run again lines up was called for a move onto more ground that Paul said would produce a varied mixture and once again he proved why he is Whitby's most successful skipper. 25 years experience showed in the way he put us onto Gurnard, Dab, Plaice, Herring and Mackerel. By the end of the day we had managed over 90+ fish of 10 different species, All fish was returned except for a few deep hooked ones that were kept for the table.

Report on-board Alliance
Friday saw us on Alliance again for another trip out with Skipper Shaun Elwick and once again he showed why he is one of the most respected skippers in Whitby, From the first drift on a wreck on the 5 mile we were into fish. With the Algae bloom clearing by the day Shads have started fishing better with Rhubarb and custard sidewinders being the prefered ones to use. I managed 3 codling to about 5lb from the first 6 drifts. Then it was time for a move onto another wreck for Slack water. Shaun told us to fire some bait into the wreck and this paid dividends with my mate Perry landing a 9lb ling which he was over the moon with, as this took the boat sweep All together there must have been a good 60 fish caught by the 5 anglers aboard. We also managed to bag a few Mackerel on the way back in as well for the BBQ so overall a great day out with a Great Skipper on a top boat. What more can you ask for? (Maybe a bit of sunshine....) I can't wait for my next trip out aboard Alliance

Its been a while since my last report, in between we've managed to lose another week to bad weather, the algae has cleared now and the water is clearing daily.
The Mackerel have arrived in numbers, a little offshore now and the Ling have started moving and feeding now too. The fishing was tricky over the bigger tides but as they've eased the fishing has come on well.
Most trips this week we've seen Ling to just under double figures and Cod to 7/8lb. Today though with the tides easing we've seen our best Cod this year bouncing the boat scales between 13lb & 14lb 8oz, the same drift also saw Ling to just under 11lb, we had other Cod to 8/9lb and Ling to similar size too, the best angler taking 15 fish.
With the tides dropping further this week and a settled spell we will making the most of it! we only have a few spare spaces this week,
3 places - Tuesday 14th
3 places - Sunday 19th

With yet another beautiful forecast ahead of us today we started out this morning full of high expectations.
The lads who formed today's crew were from an American Community and all newbies to Whitby on their maiden trip.
The lads travelled from Essex and set off at midnight last night!
We started the day on a strip of ground some 7 miles NE for a very slow half a dozen fish for 3 drifts. A small move out to the 9 mile area trying a couple of strips of ground and a wreck proved slow also.
Time for a move to a distant wreck then and hopefully some better fishing. Arriving a shade after slack water we hit it perfectly. The 7 lads all hitting fish straight away!
The fishing continued steady for a good 3 hours or so until we eventually exhausted the wreck taking close to 100 fish.
The lads all agreed that the day was a cracker, both weather wise and fishing wise too and will definately be back.
The distant marks still proving far better than the more inshore marks again today.
The lads pictured with a few of their catch.
A big "Thank you" to Steven Anscombe for doing a sterling crewing job as ever.
Cheers and tight lines lads.

Some cracking weather at last here at Whitby after the bombardment of rubbish we've just had from the North.

The last couple of days we spent on the more offshore marks whilst we wait for the inner marks to come on after the Northerly blow and the algae clears.
A trip to the 20 mile wrecks proved very fruitful indeed for our mixed team on Tuesday, The lads enjoying some great sport on a varied amount of tackle ranging from rod classes as low as 15 lb. Exciting stuff when fishing in 200 ft of water!!
Paul Cookson had the best bag of the day with Cod to 8 lb. Pollack and Ling also. 15 fish in total for Paul.
The Summer competition is looming ever closer and starts on Sat 25th June and runs for 3 weeks inc.
We still have a few days left with a some spaces. If you fancy a go my details are as follows :-

Report on-board Alliance
Wednesday was another GREAT day fishing aboard Alliance, Whitby's latest addition to the Charter fleet . From stepping aboard at the start of the day the Banter was free flowing just as much as the free tea and coffee supplied by Skipper Shaun Elwick. The Ex-lifeboatman and Whitby local has over 35 years experience fishing out of Whitby and that showed from the way he put us onto the fish from the first drop. When the tide started running again we moved onto some ground on the 5 mile mark and true to his word Shaun found the fish again. with baited hookki's doing the damage Even with the difficult fishing conditions of late due to the Algae bloom being in full swing we still managed several species of fish including Cod to 8 lb, Ling to 6lb, Pollack, Pouting and Whiting, No Mackerel showing as yet though.

Sea Conditions were not ideal with a good amount of lift in places, so we took shelter from the northerly winds and targeted Thornback rays as the tide eased we braved the swells to have a last hour having a go for Cod.
Overall the lads had a great day which turned out to be quite a species hunt as they managed to catch 25 thornback rays, a Spotted Ray, 2 Brill, a Lessor Spotted Dogfish, several dabs and a good few codling.
heaviest Fish was a 6lb 8oz Thornback Ray
All but 5 of the largest rays were returned to fight another day as well as the brill, and Dogfish as the anglers wanted to try a skate wing.
