Report on-board Shy-Torque III
A group of lads from Newcastle asked me some time ago if it would be possible to try and target the Halibut here off Whitby. This week we managed to get the group away to have a go. We sailed at 6 a.m as the grounds where we would hope to get these fish are some 30 miles from shore. On arrival the tide was ripping past too quick so we had to play the waiting game for an hour or so. An hour before slack water and we saw some action. One of the lads had a take which certainly appeared to be a large Halibut judging by the way his 50lb class rod was bending. Sadly after 5 minutes or so the fish was lost. Some 15 minutes after this I hooked into one myself and after a 35 minute battle with 3 very powerful dives back to the bottom I boated a 47lb fish. I was using a Shimano Speed Master 30lb class rod with a TLD15 multiplyer which made this a very exciting ordeal indeed!! All the lads were very pleased to see one of these fish boated and have already booked 3 Halibut trips for next year! If you fancy a try for one yourselves please drop me a line. What a month of fishing we have had. The late summer festival taking place this month
saw all the Whitby fleet trying hard for the biggun!
Athough we never won the competition we got our name up on the daily board on a number of occations again, getting the anglers daily prizes.
This month the fishing has been fantastic seeing many double figure fish aboard the Mistress.
We have have seen many double figure Ling upto 17 lb 8 oz, Cod upto 12 lb, and a new Mistress best Pollack of 15 lb, which is a great fish for this coast.
A massive well done to all the anglers taking part in the festival this month.

Whitbys late summer festival is now in full swing and ling are being caught big time but there is still some belting cod around as well hugh jones from ripon was fishing with me yesterday the fishing was fast with ling jumping aboard but then popped up this cracking cod just onces short of 19lb well done hugh he leads the way in the £1000 competition he has untill sunday to wait to see if the grand is his well done hugh.

The weather this morning was absolutely attrocious, we all got a proper dowsing with the rain. its didnt dampen the lads spirits though, they fished steadily getting a mixture of cod, pollock, ling, mackerel, pouting, whiting and coaly. Pictured is Shaun from Notts with a 15lb Ling - the best of the day.

What a brilliant day today. we fished the inshore wrecks, starting at only 3 miles offshore we took a large amount of fish off the first wreck the best going 15lb! I was feeling quite chuffed for the lads, the next wreck then threw up an 11lber, then moving onto the third we got a lovely 16lb cod. the lads fished well.

Today we had another go on the inshore wrecks, the tides dropped further today & the party today were a little more experienced. We were straight into pollack and cod at the begining of the day with five or six fish a drift coming onboard. we were managing to fish 2 wrecks with the same drift, it was frantic at times with the fish that were coming up. again we got baits into the wrecks as the tide eased taking plenty of Ling. We saw a number of double figure fish today, best Ling of 12lb 8oz fell to Paul Cree, and best Cod of 10lb fell to Tomas, well done lads.

Fishing still remains good here at Whitby, today was no exception. The tides have been easing a bit giving us chance to get on the inshore wrecks, which have been throwing up some great fish! While the tide was running the lads were fishing a mixture of Jellyworms and shads taking pollack and cod, then once the tide eased we got some baits in to the wrecks and got ourselves a ling or two! The star of the show today was nine year old Tom, he fished well taking the biggest fish on the boat with a Ling of 12 lb 8oz. giving him a new PB. Hopefully his dad wont be too upset about being outfished! well done mate.

great day fishing carl the skipper was very good along with the other two crew members.catches were cod,ling,pouting, mackerel,whiting and the odd flounder
