Some fantastic weather this last couple of weeks here at Whitby. The fishing has been very good indeed with some nice catches of cod and ling being landed on the Shy Torque III ( see catches section ) .
The big ling have started to poke their noses out again!! This last week seeing two over 22lb on the boat. Both fish being caught on the rough ground.
This stamp of fish is easily big enough to win any competition held here at Whitby !! The next one being the September competition which starts on the 10th Sept and finishes on the 25th Sept. Big cash prizes again in this comp lads so give me a ring if your interested in grabbing a "grand" before the end of the year !!

Today was the 1st day we got back to sea following a week of high winds and swell like we'd expect in winter!
Venturing out I expected we might have to run a fair distance to find some clear water, but stopping at the 5 mile ground on the way produced a few fish, so the water wasnt as coloured as we first feared. We continued working our way out to 9 and 10 mile ground taking fish each drop. The fishing wasnt fantastic but the lads took a steady picking throughout the day. The last couple of hours saw a change in tide and with it we saw an increase in activity taking many fish each drift, even though we were fishing a reef mark we were taking ling into low double figures each drift with a few coddling chucked into the equation too. The best fish was a ling around 11 1/2lb, we also saw pollock to 7lb, monk fish to 6lb and cod to 6lb, whiting, pouting and the usual summer mackerel. View Boats Page

The dates have just been set for next years angling competitions ( 2012 ) for the Whitby Charter Skippers Association.
They are as follows : Spring comp : 14th April - 28th April inc.
Sumer comp : 16th June - 8th July inc.
Autumn comp : 8th Sept - 23rd Sept inc .
Get these dates in your diaries lads as they do tend to go fast once the word is spread !!!!!

This years Summer angling festival at Whitby proved to be a bit of a nervous one for John Wilcock from Bradford. On the first day of the event John managed to set the precedent with a very fine ling of 26lb 8oz aboard the Shy-Torque III. The next 22 days were to prove very lengthy indeed!! However, his fish did manage to hold out to the end and John will now receive a massive £5000.00 in cash for his long wait !!! The WCSA would like to thank all the anglers who took part in this years event and also to all our sponsors who very generously donate to the association each year, without whom we wouldn't be able to host such a prestigious event. With large tides again today we had a trot up the coast again to fish the grounds we fished yesterday seeing as it fished so well. We arrived on slack water with no drift at all so started on a small wreck laying fairly shallow, first drift was cracking, a few dropped fish, but the ones we landed were of good stamp, cod weighing in at 13 lb and ling into low double figures. we fished the wreck for a few more drifts until the tide got away managing a few more cod and ling.
we moved off onto the ground nearby and took a few codlings but an easterly breeze picked up pushing us along at over 2 knots which seemed to put the fish off a bit. moving into deeper water we found a good few fish more, including a nice haddock of around 3lb, best fish of the day was a cod and went 13 lb on the scales with many in the 6 - 8 lb class, a few probably around the 9 and 10 lb mark.
