Every mark we went to today produced a good few fish then seamed to dry up so we did steam about abit today following the tide to maximise fishing for the lads.
As you can see from the short video they had a good mixed bag of really clean fish in fact only 1 codling we had to day was a local kelp cod.
Species wise we had a nice mix of codling, pollock, pouting, dogfish, and ballen wrasse today
Not the best of conditions today with the wind and rain.
On the trip we did see see a good amount of wildlife with a lonely half black beaked puffin following us around for a bit. a few gannets still showing, two bottle nose dolphins, several seals and even a Peregrine Falcon hunting a poor bird which we couldn't Id as it was frantically trying to get away and it did. -

Photos of today's better catches on our winter uptiding trip
View Boats Page
Overal everybody on the boat caught a cod to keep which in it self is a massive bonus some of them up until the last hour really struggled but managed to be kept busy catching other species like dogfish, ballen wrasse, pouting and even a whiting.
Best bait today seamed to be dirty squid fished on its own which was slightly unusual as normally tipping off normally gives it a slight advantage.
Noticed today when gutting the fish they are slowly getting small roes forming so hopefully we shouldn't be far away from those better fish which come in the winter months. -

Simon Ullyott and his 5 mates chartered the boat for the day and enjoyed some steady fishing on the inshore wrecks.
Best fish falling to Wayne on the last drop of the day. A lovely Cod of 10lbs. Most of the fish came on the baited rigs but also a nice few on the artificials too.
A great day out on a lovely small tide.
Give me a ring on 07733 233352 if you fancy a trip. We will be working the boat right through the winter. The Uptiding season is fast approaching and we will sail with a minimum of 4 anglers.
Cheers for now,
Rich

Fishing Report by Andy Savage
on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
Wow…..it’s been hard to get out fishing recently. In September we managed a total of five days at sea, and October has started equally as rubbish.
View Boats Page
With a temporary lull in the pants weather, we did finally manage a day out yesterday. With a group of experienced anglers on board, I was optimistic that we might find a few fish, if they were feeding. Having not been out to sea for over a week, we had a tentative look for a few fresh Mackerel. Running out to the five mile ground, we did find Mackerel, but in the main, they were absolutely tiny. Strings of 4-6” fish came up, which was quite bazaar. In the end, we found enough to get us going.
We had an hour or so drifting the five mile ground and initially we were getting plenty of bites, mainly from small Codling. Once the flood tide got away properly, the bites tailed off a bit. Keeping on the move, I took us into some ground at three miles, so we could drop onto some wrecks close by when the tide began to ease. The first couple of drifts didn’t produce much, but then the wind fell away a bit and the tide eased a smidge. It was like someone had flicked the fish feeding switch. All of a sudden; we had six rods in at once, and the boys wrestled up a fair few fish in the next hour. It was mainly Ling with the best fish around double figures, but lots of bites and a good few fish in the boxes.
As slack approached, we went to a couple of wrecks, and had a few fish, but nothing exceptional. I called it early off the wrecks and went back to rough ground. We finished the day catching steadily. We caught plenty of Ling and Codling, but the size of the Codling was on the small side. Mike Lee was top rod for the day, and filled a box to the top with some cracking fish. It was a lovely day out with anglers who I’ve had to cancel too many times for bad weather this year.
Thanks for coming boys.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Fishing Report by Andy Savage
on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
Today was definitely another day that didn’t match the forecast. We were expecting lightish winds first thing and then gradually building as the day progressed. When we came out of the pier ends, it was moving already and just built as the day progressed…..but we were going to make the best of it!
View Boats Page
We had a group of mixed experiences on board. Unfortunately a few spent the day putting in a “chum” trail, but the other lads really got stuck in. With slack water approaching as we left the harbour, we went straight to a wreck to try and get a better fish at slack water. The lines started streaming a bit, and we lost too much gear in the three drifts we tried, so that was scratched, and we went to try and find some fresh Mackerel to lure a Ling or two.
Pushing out to a wreck just short of the five mile ground, we found plenty of Mackerel to keep us going for the rest of the day. With a long stretch of rough ground just in front of us, we started at the north end and worked our way back south. Most of the lads went in with Hokkai’s or bait traces with squid or Mackerel. Today, Hokkai’s definitely ruled.
Sea Urchin regular Keith McCance got stuck straight in. He took one or two fish every drift and then connected with something a bit different. He was fishing under the boat, so it wasn’t until the last minute we saw a nice sized Ling shuffle up. It looked a decent size, and we had a go at weighing it, but with the swell we settled on 14lb…ish! As it turned out, the Ling weighed 14lb 12oz which was a great result.
It went a bit quiet, so we moved back into the rough ground at three miles. Two or three small Codling and Ling a drift encouragingly showed signs of life. I’d just gone to get a sandwich from my dinner box, when I saw Karl Crossland struggling. As he was fishing under the boat, I thought he was stuck on the bottom; but I was wrong! He slowly but surely winched up up a nice Ling, which turned out to be 13lb 2oz.
We plugged away for the remainder of what was a tough day. I really enjoyed the day, with some great banter from the boys. If you can catch fish in today’s conditions, you’ll smash em’ in good conditions.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

We steamed North up towards Tees Bay for a change of scenery and worked several wrecks.
Out of the 6 we worked, only 2 of them produced fish with around 30 fish from them both.
Baited rigs again fishing the best with the fresh Mackerel doing the best.
John Dexter from Hornsea, East Yorkshire boating the best fish of the day, a nice Ling of 12lb 12oz.
When we boated the fish I never bothered to weigh it as we were rolling a bit with the weather. I figured it was going to be around the 10lb mark as it was a very short fish. Obviously a lot “chunkier” than we thought!
John took the £50.00 daily prize and was well chuffed.
Well done to him. John is pictured.
Cheers for now and keep the lines tight lads.

Day 3 and their last one yesterday for our team of 4 from Halifax West Yorkshire.

The bait fish were a little thin for the lads to start the day but we found a few to add to the spares left over from the day previous.
We started on a strip of ground just 4.5 miles from the harbour and stayed there for the best part of the morning with fish coming aboard steadily.
Slack water arrived at around midday so we tried a couple of wrecks for a handful of Codling/Ling.
Finishing off back on the ground where Andy pulled up a nice Ling of 12lb 6oz (pictured) which took him the daily 1st prize of £50.00. Well done to him.
The majority of our catch falling to the Mackerel and Squid baited rigs.
A pleasure sailing with you all again lads and look forward to sailing with you all again next year.
Cheers

The water still a bit cloudy inside 4 miles after the big Northerly swell so we marched out to the 5 mile areas to find some Mackerel. Around 20 boated in 5 mins which was ample enough for the 4 of them.
Out then to our first mark, a wreck just shy of 18 miles where the lads picked a couple of dozen fish from it, so a nice start for them.
To be honest, we struggled a bit after that and they maybe had another 10 fish for the day.
Ken took the best Cod (pictured) at 7lb 8oz and they took plenty of Ling between them to around the 7lb mark.
No daily prize but some nice fishing for the lads.
Cheers

Last Wednesday and yesterday and after the run of fresh Northerlies neither day fished particularly well.
Last week was the tail end of the big Spring tides where the lads managed a mere dozen fish for the day.
Yesterday was a slight improvement with 20 fish boated but on perfect wrecking tides, still poor. Cloudy water at present so we’re just waiting now for the clarity to return.
Both days however gave the lads daily prize winning fish of £50.00
Paul Mawson from Bridlington pictured with his winning fish yesterday.
Cheers for now and tight lines,
