2021 TRIPLE WINNER TAKING ALL 3 COMPETITIONS THAT YEAR!!!!
PLUS DOZENS OF OTHER COMPETITION WINS BEFORE THESE DATES!!!!
Whitby's only TWIN ENGINED charter boat. She is Whitby's most popular, powerful and fastest angling boat winning more angling competitions and daily prizes over the last 30 years than any other boat in Whitby.
Sponsored by the top name in sea angling "SHIMANO" Shy Torque III is the best known of all the charter boats in Whitby and probably the North East coast and has a track record second to none.
The boat is fully licensed and insured and has a code of practice "Category 2 " with the RYA, allowing us to travel up to 60 miles. (Please ask to see certificate if required) Only a handful of Whitby charter boats hold this category of license and insurance. If you sail beyond the boats designated area of work, then the insurance for that boat (which covers you as an angler) does become null and void. It's a good idea to check in case of any eventualities!!!
For your best chances of a great days fishing from Whitby the Shy Torque III is your best option by far. If you want to book the boat as a club we do a special rate for teams of 8 or less. Please ensure that you have the full money for the places you have booked (whether it be full boat or individual bookings) as we will have been turning people away on the strength of your booking.
The dates for the competitions here at Whitby for 2024 are listed below.
The Spring competition dates are April 13th to April 28th INC. Big cash prizes!!
The Summer competition dates are June 29th to July 21st July INC Get yourselves a trip booked to have a chance of winning a great cash prize!!!
The late Summer competition dates are August 31st to September 15th INC. You can book any places as from now. 07733 233352
When you consider that some of the other charter boats in Whitby are charging on average around £50.00 for a day’s fishing (this includes the slow boats!) then the £55.00 that we charge for individuals for the day is more than worth it. We can give you so much more time fishing than the others!!! Plus with the added advantage of staying completely DRY in wet conditions.
The boat is just under 40ft in length and fitted with the "Islander" style wheelhouse. There is oodles of space per angler (unlike some of the boats in Whitby) as we can fish right around the boat from stem to stern! The "ANGLERS CABIN" also ensures that you can arrive at the fishing areas DRY and arrive back home DRY. There are no other charter boats in Whitby (in our size range) that can offer a full team TOTAL cover like we can.
REMEMBER, if you are paying less than what we charge there WILL be a reason for it!!! Individuals are welcome on the boat. Gift vouchers are available for trips every year and would make an excellent gift / birthday / Xmas present.
The full 2022/23 tide table for Whitby is now available. Please call for details or visit the site.

Shy-Torque III. Going that extra mile (or 10!) for you.

Fully qualified commercial yachtmaster. Started going to sea with my Dad when I was just 5 years of age !! Started working as a charter skipper full time at the age of 18. Over 40 years experience at sea!!
Longest serving skipper from Whitby.
This is my full time job ( not just working on weekends ) working every day the weather permits 12 months of the year. I have been working as a charter skipper longer than any other charter skipper in Whitby. Over the last 25 years we have won more angling competitions than any other boat in Whitby ! Very proud of the boat keeping her in immaculate condition at all times. We also have a crewman when we are taking newcomers to the sea angling game. We are always there to assist you throughout the day to try and make your day as enjoyable as possible. Willing to go the extra mile (or 10!!) to find the fish.
You are welcome to give me a ring to discuss your trips anytime between 8AM & 8PM.
Look forward to sailing with you soon.
Rich.

Another good day on Shy torque. Rich was on the ball as usual we fished some wrecks 21 miles off but there were a breeze that made fishing a bit difficult only a few cod were caught so he brought us in to try some rough ground that’s when the fishing got better with some decent sized cod coming in every one on the boat had plenty of fish for the freezer. Big thanks to Rich for a good day. I’m looking forward to the next trip Ivan.
Skippers Reponse: Thanks for the review Ivan.
Always a pleasure sailing with you Ivan. Pleased we had a nice picking in the end.
A lovely day all round.
Cheers

Fishing Report by Rich Ward
22 Apr 2025 by Rich Ward
It’s always nice to get to sea and not have to race around everywhere looking for the “Big one” in the competitions.
Yesterday’s trip was very relaxing for us and we had a great day playing around on the relatively inshore marks.
A drop on a small piece of wreckage just 5 miles off to start the day where the lads took a couple of Codling and a couple of Haddock.
Then a drop on the nearby ground which proved rubbish!
We moved another couple of miles further off to a wreck at the North end of the 7 mile where the lads took another half a dozen Codling.
They weren’t suicidal but they were biting which was good.
Mostly coming up on the baited rigs.
As that wreck dried up we moved again.
This time we ran back out to the area where we’d found a good picking the day before but before that we dropped on another small wreck.
Good move Wardy!
It kept us going for a good 2-3 hours and the lads plucked around 40 fish from it.
Nothing big but some nice steady action.
When we had milked that one we finished off on the previous days ground and the fish were committing themselves fully.
On one drift we took over 15 fish, but unfortunately we had landed in the kindergarden and only kept 2 or 3!!
That continued for the rest of the day.
Up and down the drift another half a dozen drifts and the day was done and with the devils SE breeze picking up it was time to head off home.
Unlike the day previous where I had been knocking the fish out on the shads and sidewinders, I couldn’t click a fish and the majority came up on the squid baited rigs.
Andy Chesham who hadn’t been to sea since he was a young lad out fishing everyone!
Fergus explained that you must pay out your line to maintain contact with the bottom and don’t “jig” baited rigs!
He ended up with 15 or so himself.
A better tally on the count with a good 80+ fish to keep.
A cracking day at sea again with good company. Young Fergus offering his services and filleting away all the way back to harbour.
We have a few spaces left this Thursday if anyone fancies joining us.
Cheers
Rich.

Fishing Report by Rich Ward
21 Apr 2025 by Rich Ward
Yesterday was the last day of this years Spring Festival here at Whitby and as it was almost 2 weeks ago since we sailed, we were very happy to be getting out.
The leading fish up to yesterday was one of just over 8 lbs, so we were hopeful that with the tides being perfect for wrecking and the winds being light, there was half a chance of finding that winning fish.
We ran offshore to one of our favourite wrecks just over 17 miles off where we’d fished ok a couple of weeks back.
The fish were interested and the first 4 or 5 drifts produced over 20 fish, with the best going around 9.5lbs.
Not a big one but big enough to take the lead (if nobody else came in with a better one)
We kept our fingers crossed!
The day panned out really nice, with the lads taking fish everywhere we stopped after that, including the grounds a bit more local to the harbour.
A few of them taking “double ups” on the baited rigs too.
Things are maybe starting to show signs of improving a bit closer in at last.
I tried a couple of shads on the ground too which caught fish. The water clearing out nicely now.
At the weigh in we popped our fish on the scales which registered 9lb 5.5oz which took the lead (for 10 minutes!)
At the last knock, another Ling came to the scales at 11lb which pipped us!
Ah well, not to worry. Shaun from Cumbria was well pleased with his day and his 12 fish caught. His Ling taking 2nd place overall. Well done to him.
Aside the weather being pants for most of the competition, it ended with a bit of a flurry yesterday and all the contenders had a great day.
Our tally for the day would be over 70 to keep along with the other chuck backs.
Thanks to everyone who booked with us in the competition and we will see you in the Summer one.
Cheers
Rich.

Fishing Report by Rich Ward
8 Apr 2025 by Rich Ward
We took to sea yesterday for the first time in this years WCSA Spring competition.
A great forecast prediction with winds of 3-5 knots making it (hopefully) perfect for an offshore wrecking trip.
First stop with our regular mixed group of lads was just over 12 miles from harbour.
The lads were all armed with a good selection of bait, hoping to click that £1000.00 festival winner.
The first drift produced a few small Codling and likewise on the next couple of passes.
A move to the next piece of scrap after most rods were stuck in the wreck on the fourth drift was then in order.
We arrived at our second point on slack water, meaning that we could work it down to the last metre.
The lads picked away on this one until nearly home time and managed around 40 Codling from it which to be fair, after our last offshore run, wasn’t a bad result at all.
The big fish weren’t playing out and our best fish of the day was a Codling of just 4lb 5oz!
Having said that, that fish was big enough for Jonathan Stirrup from Preston to take the heaviest of the day and win him the daily prize of £50.00.
Well done to him.
Tally for the day would be 40+ to keep with a good number returned to fight another day.
Baited rigs taking the fish, but also the water clear enough on the more distant wreck for the shads to work too!
Young Fergus getting some filleting work on the way back and in port.
A great day out on the water with great company too.
Cheers lads, great to sail with you all.
Our next trip out is next Saturday where we have room for a couple more anglers.
Cheers Rich.

Fishing Report by Rich Ward
1 Mar 2025 by Rich Ward
Great to get back on the water yesterday after a couple of weeks off with the boat out of the water for maintenance and an intermediate survey.
Boat all good.
Tides are running big on the high Springs at present so Uptide/Downtide fishing was the call.
We had just the four lads on board for yesterday’s trip so plenty of room for everyone.
We punched the start of the ebb tide to start the day off and dropped in just two miles from the harbour mouth.
The fish were a tad reluctant throughout the ebb flow but we picked away at them until slack water.
The lads taking around twenty fish between them.
Chatting to a mate of mine on his boat who was fishing the North side of us who said his morning was slower than ours, we decided to sit it out across slack in the hope they came back on the feed on the flood.
They didn’t really and the lads probably only took another half a dozen to keep.
All in all though, a beautiful day on the water with calm conditions and cracking sunshine.
Cheers lads and we’ll see you again soon.

Fishing Report by Rich Ward
1 Feb 2025 by Rich Ward
After Fridays reasonable days fishing to the North of the harbour, we chose to run to the similar marks again yesterday.
The Ebb tide had just begun when we got set up and we only had an odd “knock” or two with a handful of fish boated in the first hour or so.
Not as quick as yesterday for sure!
I chose to fish the first mark until 10.30am to see if the fish were going to come on the feed as the 5.6m tide gathered pace.
They didn’t, so we moved on a bit further to try some other decent lumps and bumps.
As soon as we pitched the anchor in we took a half dozen Codling which was encouraging, but as the tide slackened off, so did the fish!
A waiting game again over the lunchtime slack water period to see if they came on on the flood as they did 24 hours previous.
They didn’t!
At 3.15pm we decided that was a day and returned to port with the lads.
A meagre(ish) 25 Codling for the boat today.
My good mate Simon England taking 10 Codling himself and Tom Allen taking around half a dozen making them them the top rods today.
Can’t emphasise how important it is to replenish the baits and keep them fresh in this game!!
Thanks for the company and business as ever lads.
We really appreciate your support.
Cheers
Rich & Fergus.
