Flexibility is the name of the game!...sailing at a mutually agreed time to suit you and returning back in line with the trip booked ....but before it gets dark.!...
I am more than happy for a later departure if pre-agreed .
I am more than willing to try any type of fishing you want to.I will anchor for downtiding, drift the sunken wrecks and rough ground,go lure fishingfor pollack in the kelp shallows , drift the sandy shallows for plaice or go shark fishing in the deeper water .



Rods,Reels(all loaded with braid!) available to hire and end tackle for sale.

individuals,groups,all ladies,children and youths...all are welcome aboard.

Less travelling and more fishing is the order of the day but I will travel further offshore if needs be.

We also offer photography afloat trips by special arrangement

About the Skipper:

"Dawn Venture" is my 4th charter vessel and an upgrade on its predecessor "Optimist"
I have been running charter angling vessels for 11 years now(1 year in Whitby and 10 years in PORTPATRICK). After leaving the Royal Navy after 22 years service , I take pride in my reputation that I have worked hard to achieve. I am a keen fisherman but gain more satisfaction from the fish you land than my own personal catches.I want every day to be enjoyable and individually successful and I will strive to achieve that for you .I am adaptable to change and totally flexible as to how you want your day to progress but will advise if your suggestions are not possible due to tides or wind or if your target species are not showing(for whatever reasons!).Hopefully we will have discussed your requirements before your arrival and the day will unfold as expected!
I hold all professional qualifications needed to operate from any safehaven in any weather and light but I do not hold the safety equipment required to operate night fishing trips but we can operate at dusk or dawn
I have a wealth of knowledge on techniques that I am more than willing to share to help you get the most out of YOUR day. My level of commitment to you the customer is unsurpassed and I will not stop trying for you from trip start til day end.I will be honest with you about the state of the fishing when you enquire and offer info about the best tides and times to suit you.I will do my upmost to accomodate every requirement of yourselves.I cant guarantee the weather or fish,but I can guarantee maximum effort on my part for YOU! If you enjoy the day out,tell your friends...if you didnt,then tell me!

    After overwintering in Cullivoe in Shetland and my recent cancer diagnosis and successful treatment,Dawn Venture will be available for fishing charters from 6th June 2025 through the summer and autumn and into winter.
    We are waiting for the mackerel to arrive and once they are here,we will primarily be targeting common skate,tope,bullhuss,spurdogs and pollack but in the past 10years,we have caught 42 species of fish in the North Channel between South west Scotland and Northern Ireland.
    The targets to beat this year are:
    Common Skate 214lb
    Tope 56lb
    Spurdog 24lb
    Bullhuss 22lb
    Pollack 14lb
    We have also had cod to 6lb,haddock to 4lb and tub gurnards upto 5lb

    For those not interested in fishing,we also do trips to the seal colony or scenic trips to killantringan lighthouse and Dunskey Castle.
    We also do photographic trips,trips of your creation from your imagination and film crew/survey/commercial contracts.

    "DAWN VENTURE" will be operating with the Cullivoe Charter Fleet from the 2nd April 2025.

    After fishing from Cullivoe for 7 years and working there for the past 3 years on "OBERON", I am well placed to take you fishing on the grounds North and West of Yell and all around the Isle of UNST fishing the famous MUCKLE FLUGGA LIGHTHOUSE & SKAW ROST.
    I have over 200 GPS marks to choose from along with 3-D seabed visuals to enhance your chances.
    Core business will be fishing for BIG cod/ling/coalies and haddock and I helped the guys in 2023 land a 14LB HADDOCK! this would have been a british and european record but wasnt submitted.We will also (by request) fish for pollack and kelp cod under the cliffs on lightline tackle.

    Bookings are now being taken for 2025 and will require a deposit to secure the booking
