    Report on-board Lady Margaret

The fishing remains good as we head into autumn which is normally one of the best seasons with summer species still in residence and winter species making an appearance.

We have spent most of the month doing inshore drifting trips. The main target has been plaice and generally the catches have been good although there has been the odd rather puzzling day where the fishing has been a bit slow despite seemingly excellent conditions. When the conditions are right and the fish are feeding hard we have had some superb sessions. There have been plenty of good sized fish around during the month.

There are also lots of other species around including black, gilthead and Couch's bream, red mullet, smoothhounds, tub and grey gurnards amongst others.

We haven't done much bass fishing during the month but when we have generally the results have been excellent. Still lots of small fish around and we have also seen some bigger fish in the 8lb and 9lb range coming aboard. We are still awaiting the first double figure of the year but have seen fish to 9lb 10oz. Great to see anglers wanting to release these magnificent, hard fighting big fish and only retain the smaller ones if they take any at all.

We have only fished one short session at anchor which produced a whole variety of species including the more unusual rock cook and baillon's wrasse.

I am pleased to say the mackerel have made a welcome return at the end of the month including some heavyweights over the 1lb mark.
