    Report on-board Phosphorescent 'WH1'

After our first attempts to get on Plaice grounds in Christchurch Bay in late March conditions have finally got better with the water looking like the Sea not Tea now. We had to wait until the flood tide got away to get to the mark as the wind was howling early on. We had a steady stream of Dabs, Dogs and Smoothounds before the first plaice turned up. but when they did switch on they fed hard and it was a mad hour and a half of brilliant fishing. All of the Anglers were fishing with very light tackle and those aboard new to it were blown away by the hard fights and savage takes on the HTO ML rods. Blinged rigs are the norm and worm and prawn cocktail the top bait. I did try drop shotting for them after I caught 5 on bait. I had two good takes but I failed to hook up on the Isome Sandworms. (I had far to big a hook on and the fish were just grabbing the end of the lure). One thing that was very obvious was the difference in takes between bait and lure...the fish hitting the lures actually HIT it...like little Halibut we've experienced in Norway. We ended up with 20 Plaice in all with an absolute stonker touching 5lbs to Roger Wheatland right at the end of the day. It's back to work for me until mid May, I'm sure this will fly by as I'm so excited about coming back to hit the Bream and Bass and some more of these fantastic Red Spots.
