Today was the first day of the spring festival the forcast wasnt to bad we sailed at 7am the there was a breeze from the southwest but it wasnt long before the wind dropped away and the sea turned more or less flat today the lethal weapon was once baited shads or squid fished whole on a single hook .

The day got off to a slow start but i assured the lads things can change extremy fast and it did.

We fished out on the 9 mile and picked off some nice codlings but i new where i wanted to be as the tide eased late morning.

the tide today was quite big and through the strength of the tide the fishing was allways going to be better as the tide eased due to the algie in water .

At 9am i decide i decided to go for a cruise to wrecks up the coast but only 4 or 5 miles from the shore as we arrived at the first wreck the wind had allmost gone near on perfect conditions.

a slow drift a few fish came up more or less straight away but i decide to move to the next wreck and it was bingo the first drift all the rods were into fish everybody was pulling in cod we had near on 3 cracking hours fishing again.

All the lads were into fish most of the time we didnt manage to get any monsters today the best going over 9lb but quite a lot of fish around the 7lb mark and loads around 5-6lb plus we had our first pussy cat this year a catfish around the 6lb mark.

all in all the lads had a very nice day it is very early days in the competition there was a much biggier fish lost today and i am sure finger crossed we could see a cod going well into the teens before the end of the competition.

Local lad paul britain an ex trawlerman who is a tool pusher on the rigs paul is now a keen angler and got his first real taste of catching cod on shads he loved it.

One of the lads with a nice brace from today .

Had a team of lads on from preston today shawn glovers party the lads are now regulars aboard sea-otter 2 and they just seem to hit it right but i must say these lads can catch fish and today they proved once again when the fishing is good they take full advantage.
Shads was the lethal weapon today squid fished with 1lb lead was ok but it was shads that give the boys all the glory we hit a few wrecks on the 4 mile stream the fishing was steady but it was the afternoon when the flood tide came through when the fishing really came on the lads were knocking cod out on the shad upto 10lb but most of the fish were between 5-6lb not a bad stamp of fish the lads had a great day and are back in two weeks time for hopefully some more fun.

Had a mixed group of lads on today and decided to have a look out on the 20mile the forcast was supposed to be spot on but as usuall we had a good breeze from the northwest first thing just make things a bit bumpy.
We had a nice steady ride out i said to the lads the wind would drop away soon when we arrived out on the 20 mile the wind did just the opposit and freshned even more white water everywhere i was thinking this cant last for long anyway i set the boat up over the wreck and told the lads to drop down most of the lads had shads on a mixture of hollowbellys and storm shads the first drif most of rods were bent over as the cod attacked the the lures more or less instantly for the first dozen of so drifts it was cod which were showing in the back of mind i was thinking pollock they cant be far away no sooner had the thought entered my head and one of the lads was shouting for the gaff a cracking pollock was on the surface when isaw the fish i new it was another double figure pollock a lovelly fish going just under 12lb then the next drift up came another cracker this one was one just over 10lb by now the wind had all but gone the sea had dropped more or less flat overall the really nice day with some really nice cod and once again those double figure pollock.

2 of the lads with the best pollock of the day and a couple of cod out of there catch .

Well we have had some monster tides this last week and once again an early agie bloom is well under way the cod fishing today wasnt brilliant due to the algie bloom but there was still cod coming aboard we still have very big tides which are on there way down but it was pollock which showed there hand today with some really nice fish.

The lads started with shads for the cod but it was obvious they werent attacking them but we still manged a few nice fish so i got the lads on on worms and sidewinders then the fun began the pollock came steady and the best going just over 13lb a cracking fish mick hollingworth came out on top with his personal best pollock all in all the lads really enjoyed the pollock fishing and cant wait for another bash small tides this weekend the cod fishing could explode.

Yesterday had a group of lads who work for john lewis from manchester never reall done a serious wrecking before and hadnt seen cod into double figures before well yesterday they werent dissapointed we have had a northerly swell running for a few days and in time the water clarity does drop and bait rather than lures especially shads this time of year which normally fish extremly well but today it was squid which did the damage.

The tides are extremly small perfect for inshore wrecking whitby has many many wrecks within 5 miles of shore up and down the coast and at this time of year they a stuffed with cod we started on wreck at 5 miles and the lads went straight into fish a nice few cod and one or two ling after about an hour the fishing dropped away the water clarity wasnt as i would like it so i decide to move off to the 10 mile where i new the clarity would be better we started on rough ground and it mike the organizer who nailed a really plump cod which tipped the scale at 13lb he was over the moon a personal best talk the lads were now keen as mustard you could hear a pin drop we worked the ground till the tide stared to ease the lads were getting some really nice cod up and around the 6or 7lb mark i said its time to go and have a crack on another wreck we will bait fish the wreck with squid .

I decided to drop a shad down to check if the cod were taking them but it was squid once again which the cod wanted and it was jamie whos turn it was to get a double his fish also was tipping the scales between 12-13lb another plump fish the lads fished very steady for the next 3hours bringing some really nice cod onboard they were exstatic a cracking day they were very happy they all ended with some lovelly sized cod .

Mike the organizer won the day with the biggist.
