The fishing here at Whitby, the “Cod capital of the North” is really showing great signs at present.
Plenty of Cod and Ling for yesterday’s lads working just 3 inshore wrecks. The baited rigs far outdoing the Shads on this trip.
Regular angler on the boat Dave Sharp taking the best fish of the day with a nice Ling a fraction over 11lbs.
Chris Wake and his friend Dave taking 20 fish between them! A lovely bag of fillets to take back to Flamingo Land where they are staying for the week.
Perfect weather again and great sport for all.
The Summer competition starts here at Whitby on the 2nd July and runs for 3 weeks where we still have a few days with spaces.
If you fancy joining us, drop me a line.
Cheers and tight lines,
Rich

A nice morning weather wise yesterday morning for the lads and this is when they had the best of the fishing with around 40 fish boated.
After lunch and the tide change, the wind drew down from the Southeast and completely spoilt things. The lads taking just a dozen or so more fish with the lines streaming.
Nevertheless, another good day on the Cod for the lads and Chris Wake from Kilnsey taking the heaviest fish of the day with a nice Ling of 13lb off the ground on the way back in.
The neap tides are upon us now so hopefully the decent fishing will continue for a few more days yet.
Cheers
Rich

It was like winding the clock back 25 years for our 2 lads yesterday.
Bob and Richard chartered the boat for themselves and were treat to some superb fishing.
The weather and conditions were perfect and the Cod were hungry too!
We used the start of the flood tide and steamed for an hour to a couple of wrecks which hadn’t been touched for a while and from the off they were straight into fish.
They were knocking the Cod out on the bait and I worked the Shad all day, which also worked well.
The two bits of scrap provided a great days sport for the 2 lads who were over the moon with their catch.
My son and crewman Charlie and his girlfriend had a ride out with us too. This was Alana’s maiden trip and as usual Lady Luck played her part as she took the best Cod of the day at a shade over 11lb
Plenty of good chunky Cod boated too.
A fabulous day for all.
Cheers

With the tides being on the heavier side at the moment, yesterday’s mixed group basically had 2 windows where we had a chance of catching.
The first slack water just after breakfast, produced about a dozen fish from a bit of scrap 6 miles from shore which was ok.
We scratched around for the next few hours waiting for the tide to ease, picking up just a handful of fish as we were racing along the drift at 1.7 knots.
We moved to another couple of wrecks close to each other for the second slack water period where the lads took around 20 more fish to finish their day off.
All in all, tide taken into account, not too bad a day with superb sea conditions and great company.
Cheers lads and see you all soon.
Regular lad aboard the boat, Bill Barraclough fishing the best on the day taking 8 fish himself.
Cheers
Rich

Regular anglers on the boat yesterday and what a day they had on the Cod!!
Starting on a wreck a couple of miles from the harbour entrance the lads were straight into the fish on the baited rigs and the Shads.
We decided that wreck hopping was the order for the first two or three hours with the breeze over the tide and holding us steady on the drift.
The next couple of wrecks throwing another dozen or so fish out.
After the flood tide bent through and the breeze still with us and at the back of the tide we tried some ground/reef marks and they fished well too, the lads taking another 20 plus fish.
The numbers were gathering very well indeed.
We finished the day on a tiny bit of scrap that only a couple of the skippers here have and took another dozen or so from that.
Paul from Brid and Dave Sharp were top rods today, the pair of them taking around 30 fish between them! Good fishing lads.
The rest of the crew taking some lovely bags of fillets home for the table too.
No whoppers but nice Ling to 9lb 6oz and Cod to 7lb.
A fabulous day with the weather, company and the fishing.
Cheers lads and see you all again soon.

Yesterday’s lads were another mixed group which to be fair, make up the majority of our teams these days.
The day started off slowly with the “devils” wind blowing from the ESE.
Hindered fishing for the first hour or two until eventually the breeze dropped out and conditions improved, which is when the fishing improved too.
The regular 3 out of the group, Chris Siddle, Alan Sutcliffe and Bill Barraclough fished the best, clicking fish everywhere we stopped.
Nice to see the inshore wrecks are showing again on these neap tides as they did a couple of weeks ago.
Fish falling to the baited Hokkai rigs more than the Shad yesterday.
Alan is pictured inset with one of his many Codling.
Cheers and keep a tight line,
Rich

Managed just the one day over the weekend on the Saturday and to be fair conditions weren’t the best at the start of the day.
The lads worked their best and managed just 15 or so fish between them. Lifting lines making for for quite tricky angling.
Nevertheless we tried 100% as ever and that’s all one can ask.
We cancelled yesterday for rubbish forecasts and the weather was perfect!!! Typical.
Back at it again on Wednesday where we have room for a couple more, so we’ll see how we do then.
Cheers

A nice steady day on the ground and a couple of wrecks yesterday, not going beyond 5 miles either which made for plenty of fishing time for the lads.
One or two “double ups” too which is always encouraging.
Baited rigs doing the business and a nice few falling to the shads too.
Neap tides approaching again so we should be catching even closer to port over the next few days if the weather stays kind.
Cheers

A bit of a struggle for our lads yesterday with only 25-30 fish to keep.
Simon Blenkin and his 2 lads Jack and George fishing the best on the boat with around 12 fish between them.
Nothing of any size to report either.
A nice surprise for Rodney from Stoke on our last drift with our first Mackerel of the year!
Cheers for now,
Rich

A nice day back on the water yesterday after a few days off for weather.
A mixed group yesterday with lads from Darlington, Warrington and other places.
The day started slowly with the tide and breeze together giving us a 2 knot drift.
We eventually came across a few fish out on the 5 mile ground where we took most of our fish.
I little stop on the 3 mile on the way back in to check the water clarity and the lads took another half dozen fish to finish the day off.
All in all a very enjoyable day out with cracking weather too. Some pictures of some of the lads fish today.
Cheers
