With the tides running strong on a 5.7m we chose to do some Uptiding yesterday.
We used the tide and ran a few miles to the North of the harbour to some inshore ground.
The ebb tide produced the best with the lads picking away with the Codling until slack water.
A good number of small Billet boated too.
The change of tide brought the freshening South Easterly which always spoils things and made the ride home a bit blashy!
Steve Knott from Manchester took the daily first in the competition with a Codling an ounce under 4lb. Not a big fish by any standard but it still won him the £50.00 daily prize.
    Cheers

A nice day on the water yesterday on our 2nd run out in this year’s Spring competition.
We started on a wreck 12 miles North of the harbour for a handful and to be honest we only saw another 5 or 10 fish boated until we dropped on our last wreck of the day some 22 miles North. It didn’t produce heaps of fish but certainly helped in the days total.
Great crack with lovely weather again.
This weekend’s tides running at 5.7m means we will be chucking the anchor over as the drift fishing will be far too quick.
No daily prize winner yesterday but one or two nice chunky Codling. Our best of the day was Dave Sharpe’s at 6.0lbs
Cheers lads and see you all again soon.

We managed a day at sea yesterday after yet another long spell of landlubbing!
It was our first day in the Spring Competition as Saturday was cancelled for bad weather.
A regular mixed group joined us and as the tides are currently on the smallest neaps, wrecking was the order of the day.
We touched on our first one for just a handful of Codling so moved out a few miles.
All but 3 rods went straight in to fish on the first pass which was great and we picked away at it for the full morning where the lads gathered a good amount of Codling.
Just the 2 “bootlace” Ling boated with plenty of chuck backs too.
Our heaviest fish of the day was a Pollock of 5 1/2 lbs caught by Kyle Reeves from Sheffield which won the sweep and also won him the best of the day in the competition with another £50.00!
A great day with lovely weather and great banter as usual.
A couple of days off again now but hopefully back at em on Wednesday when the weather looks to be setting again.
The competition runs for 2 weeks and we still have a few days left with spaces.
    Cheers

An unexpected trip out for us yesterday as we didn’t have a booking until Chris Beddard from Stockport rang me the evening before to see if we would take them which of course we obliged.
Because they were only a group of 3 we were obviously limited to where we could get to so we chose the inshore anchor fishing to which the lads were very pleased.
A young “potter” mate of mine had told me about the Codling they had been getting in the pots over the last couple of days so we headed to that area.
The lads were straight in to fish from the off until slack water where it went quiet, like it usually does.
We decided to stick with it where we were until the flood came through and on the first push of tide the rods were tapping again.
Chris, Phil and Bernie gathered around 25 fish between them with best falling to Bernie, a lovely Codling of 6lb 3oz.
The lads thoroughly enjoyed the day with us and will be back next month hopefully for some more action.
    Cheers

A run out to the more distant grounds paid dividends for yesterdays team.

After the previous few days of scratching about for a dozen or so fish, the lads were rewarded for their efforts and boated around 60 Cod between them.

Once again, the better size fish were elusive with the best onboard going just 5lb to Chris Wake.
A few small Haddock thrown into the mix too and also a small Wolf fish which was safely returned.

Another belting Summer like day and good fishing with the usual good banter.

Cheers lads and see you all soon hopefully.

Incredible weather for this time of the year. I hope everyone is benefiting from it.

Before we sailed yesterday we had a bit of a conflab about what tactics we should use and the majority vote was to have a run to some offshore wrecks.

We dropped on 4 wrecks out to 21 miles and the fishing wasn’t very good on any of them. Half a dozen off the first, then just a couple off each of the others.

No big fish poking their heads out as yet but here’s hoping for an improvement today when we have a run out to the “Wall”

    Mark Tansey from Derby pictured.

    Cheers lads and tight lines,

Perfect weather and conditions for yesterday’s lads but the fishing was far from perfect for us!!

We struggled to find the fish throughout the day and ended up with just the 5 keepers before returning home.

The approaching neaps hindering us with the flow slackening dramatically from the previous day. I think the fish are still there but we just need an increase in the flow again.

Still, we had a lovely day in the sun on a flat calm sea.
    Good company and good banter.

Andrew taking the best fish of the day at 6lb 2oz.

The Spring competition is fast approaching here at Whitby and starts on Saturday 9th April.
We still have a few places available which are showing on the calendar on here.

    Cheers

Phil Steele from Stockport had the boat to himself today on what was a gorgeous Spring day at sea.
Local laddy Fergus Powell from Egton joined us for a ride out too.

We set out on the flood tide at 6.30am to a couple of well known inshore Uptiding marks where we managed a half dozen Codling boated in the first half hour. Best fish there was about 4lb.

A couple of moves over the next hour or two gave the lads another half dozen fish with throwbacks too.
We finished the day off on a more Northern mark where we picked yet another half a dozen fish up. The stamp was much better on the last drop with Codling to 6lb 9oz for Fergus.

A very relaxing and enjoyable day with 2 cracking lads, excellent banter and some superb “Prog Rock” on the sound system for Phil !!
Cheers lads and see you tomorrow Phil.

20 Mar 2022 by Rich Ward

We managed a run out yesterday with a mixed group of lads. To be fair it wasn’t the best of days condition wise but the lads were keen enough to give it a try.

Uptiding was the order of the day with the tide running strong on a 5.7m.

The first stop proved fruitless with just a couple of Codling caught so we had a move a bit further up the coast and found a few more for the lads.

No great shakes but some good banter throughout the day.

Dale from Consett, County Durham on his maiden trip on a boat, was well pleased when he landed his first ever fish, a lovely 6lb Codling. A big well done to him.

Thanks for sailing with us lads and hopefully see you all again soon.

The weather predictions for this week look fabulous with very light winds, so if you fancy a run out just give me a bell.

    Cheers

14 Mar 2022 by Rich Ward

    Some settled weather at last!

Yesterday was our first trip out for a while after the boat being clear of the water for a couple of weeks whilst she had her 5 yearly out of water survey.

A mixed group of lads joined us for the day and we decided to have a run offshore as the tides were easy.

The first wreck produced around a dozen fish to keep which was ok. After that it went completely downhill and the remainder of the trip saw just 3 more fish boated!
Regular lad Bill Barraclough taking the best Codling at 5lb.
A change of approach on our next trip where we will be doing some more Uptiding as the tides start lifting again.
    Cheers
