Well, that’s the last competition of the year over here at Whitby and another cracker for the lads on the Shy-Torque III with the 4 heaviest fish of the competition taken with us.

Dimitri Maranda from Southport taking 4th heaviest with his Ling weighing 12lb 1oz.

Lee Bennett from Dewsbury taking 3rd heaviest with his Ling weighing 13lb.

Marcin Kozubinski from Accrington taking 2nd heaviest with his Ling weighing 14lb 3oz.

The overall heaviest fish of the competition landed by Nigel Hall from East Cowtonbury.
His fish weighing in at 15lb 7oz and landing him yet another £1050.00 in cash!!!

Nigel has now won 3 competitions with the Shy-Torque in the last couple of years so a massive well done to him.
The drinks are on you mate!

This also means that we have landed the “Treble” in 2021 winning all 3 of the competitions which is a great feeling and has never been done before in the history of the events.
This year’s September competition winner, Nigel Hall is pictured inset with his winning fish.
I’d like to thank all those who fished with us this year and hope to see you again sometime in the future.
    Cheers for now,
    Rich

Last trip off for us was last Monday and with the making Springs coming after that we chose to take a few days off. The fresh winds at the moment would have made us cancel anyway.

Mackerel stocks were still good for us on Monday on the 3 mile stream and the lads quickly gathered enough for the bait stocks.

First stop was a strip of ground 7 miles off where we took a half dozen fish. The best of them, a nice Ling for Joe from Selby at just under 12lbs. A potential daily prize winner maybe?

We worked the ground for a couple more hours until the tide eased back to allow us to work a wreck.
This produced around a dozen fish or so. Nothing big boated there. As the flood started “booling” through, it was back to the ground marks to finish off. Bits and bobs coming aboard with some nice fresh Mackerel to finish too.

I was about to write Joe a ticket out to weigh his fish in in the competition, when I found out it had been gutted and filleted!!!! Ooops!!
Heaviest fish weighed in on the day was an ounce or two over 10lb so would have been a winner for him!!

Fresh winds for the next couple of days so some time for general maintenance.

    Cheers for now,
    Rich

    18.09.21
What a day we had on Saturday!
Perfect weather allowed us to travel to a couple of wrecks 30 miles from port.
The first wreck was disappointing with just a half dozen fish boated.
The second one however was unreal. The first drift was like winding the clock back 30 years to when my Dad and me worked commercially. 6 of the rods boated 13 Cod to 10lb with one of the lads landing a lovely treble!
They worked the wreck for a good 2 hours and took a good amount of fish from it.
Marcin from London boated the heaviest on board with a fine Ling of 14lb 3 oz which also took the heaviest fish of the day prize in the competition.
    A fab day all round.
    Cheers for now,
    Rich

Baymans hole, 26 miles from port was our fishing area yesterday where we worked just 2 wrecks.
The first didn’t produce very much at all with just 10 fish boated.
The second wreck in the deep water did produce very well indeed though with plenty of good sized Ling boated.
Jason Shields from Driffield was holding the first place on the boat with a fine Ling just over 14lbs until slack water when my old mate and past festival winner Nigel Hall landed a better one at 15.5 lbs.
Nigel took the daily 1st prize with his fish and is currently leading the competition.
Excellent day with great banter too!
    Cheers

Richard Adams, his son Andy and daughter Lucy chartered the boat yesterday with a couple of mates.
We did the usual stop off for the bait stocks and then whizzed up to Tees Bay to work some distance wrecks.
From the off, Lady Luck Lucy was showing the lads how to go on and had a half a box of fish in the first half an hour!
She was also leading the heaviest fish on board, a nice Ling of 10.5 lbs until our last stop of the day where Dimitri landed a Ling just over 12lbs which won the sweep. His fish was also good enough to get him the 1st daily prize in the competition. Well done to him.
A great day weather wise and also on the fish.
    Cheers

A steady picking of fish for yesterday’s mixed group working 4 or 5 wrecks to the South of the harbour.
Unfortunately the breeze pepped up from the NW and spoilt the drift for a few hours which also made the fishing harder with a 1.5 knot drift, but towards the second slack of the day we started clicking the fish again.
Chris Howcroft taking our best of the day with. Ling of 8lb 3oz
    Cheers for now

A much better day at sea fish wise for the boys yesterday. Gathered the bait stocks on the 3 mile stream to start with and then off we set for a group of wrecks 15+ miles from port.
The first wreck kept us going for about an hour or so with around 15-20 fish boated.
The second one fished better where we managed to work it for the rest of the day.
Ling to just under 10lb and a good few Cod to around the 6lb mark. No prize winners today.
A very enjoyable day with good company. Skins and sowesters needed after lunch with the Bangladeshi rain storm that hit us for 3 hours solid!!! Still, at least the washing down was easier!!
Steve and Andy pictured with a few of their catch.
    Uptiding Competition 6th - 21st November.
    Cheers and tight lines

We managed to get back to sea yesterday after another short break for the weather.
This was the first day fishing in the September competition too.
A very slow day on the fish with around 30 fish boated but only 20 to keep. One or two nice fish though, the best of the day falling to Lee Bennett from West Yorkshire (pictured) a nice Ling of 13lbs which took the first daily prize of £50.00. Well done to him.
Andy Howard from Sheffield landing a nice Cod of 9lbs too which was his best if the day.
    Keep a tight line,
    Cheers

Last day at sea was on Tuesday this week.
We had a run to the “Wall” to try and get away from the heaviest of the tide and the usual chuck backs too.
Fishing wasn’t brilliant out there either but the lads managed a few over the slackest part of the tide.
My son Charlie is pictured with the best fish caught, a nice Ling of 11lb 6oz which was caught on a white shad
Taken yesterday, today and tomorrow off before the late Summer competition starts on Saturday.
We have just a couple of days left with room now in the event.
    Cheers and tight lines,
    Rich

With the making “spring” tides, the fishing yesterday was a little slow.
The mackerel fishing to start the day however was great sport. The lads gathered enough for the day’s bait stocks in about a minute!!
We dropped on a wreck inshore on the first slack water for just a handful of fish. As the tide sped away we worked the ground where the lads picked a dozen or so small fish with a handful of chuck backs.
A struggle to be fair but as the tide eased back for the second slack water we dropped on a wreck which we took some good fish off a couple of days ago.
A few throw back Ling but also a couple of lovely Cod to round the day off, the best going 10lbs.
Cheers for now and enjoy this great weather!
