    08.05.2018.

Today George Ho and his mates from Manchester chartered the boat. He and the lads have a trip a month aboard the Shy-Torque and today's trip was a fairly good one.

We started off on a few wrecks to the North side of the harbour. The first one didn't produce much more than half a dozen or so but the second wreck did produce nicely The lads took 25 nice plump cod to around the 7 lb mark. We then moved off shore for some ground fishing where they continued to pick away with the cod for the rest of the day.

A nice day all round with great company and again some lovely summer weather.

George is pictured with one of his many "doubles" of the day.

    Tight lines

A mixed group of 7 with us today.

My old mates Nigel Hall and Tony from East Cowton, North Yorkshire and Ismail Naseeb and his lad Nabeel and friends joined us.

Again we decided to work the inshore marks and today the size of the fish had improved on yesterday. Not by much, granted, but a slightly better and plumper fish.

Between them the lads would have around 70 fish to keep which all in all is a good days work by any standard.

Beautiful calm weather for the best part of the day and bloody good company too making it a perfect day!!

    Cheers and tight lines

    06.05.2018.

Nigel Steer from Sheffield and 5 of his mates were with us on Sunday.

After the last couple of days working the local grounds with good results we decided to do the same run again. The fishing was steady all day long but unfortunately the "stamp" of fish was down on the previous couple of days.

The lads ended up with around 40 to keep and probably as many were returned to the water.

Again, the fish were taking everything offered to them!!

    Cheers

    05.05.2018.

Craig Giddings and his mates, Haydon & Janine and James joined us last Saturday and had a lovely day on the grounds on the 5, 7 and 9 mile.

They picked away all day from start to finish and ended up with a lovely show of cod to take back to West Yorkshire.

The water is still clearing nicely and we are catching steadily now on the Shads and Sidewinders as well as the squid baits.

The group are pictured with some of their catch.

    Cheers

Bloody hell !! Has summer arrived at last?????

A mixed group aboard the boat today from as far afield as Lincolnshire to Cheshire.

After last weekend when I suspected that things were changing on the closer marks with clearing water, we decided to have a crack at a few inshore wrecks and ground today.
All 8 lads aboard armed themselves with the bait to start with and were immediately into fish from the start. I personally tried the artificials with shads and sidewinders and stuck with those all day.

Everyone on board had numbers into double figures and I also managed a dozen myself.

Best fish fell to Darren Bradley from Derby with a lovely cod of 10 lb 11 oz and is pictured inset.

A couple of days with room next week. Monday 7th, Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th. Tides are perfect too!!!

Cheers and tight lines to one and all

Another competition win for the Shy-Torque III !!

This years Spring angling competition has just ended here at Whitby. A good number of days were lost to poor weather and we personally only got to sea for 8 days out of the 2 weeks.

Never the less, when the weather was on our side we managed to push off to some of the distant marks and were rewarded quite well on a few of the trips.

The competition wasn't producing anything big to talk about for the first week with the majority of fish being landed averaging around the 5lb mark.

One of my mates, Carl Farrar landed a ling which was nudging the 11lb mark which took the lead in the event and looked for some time like it was going to do the job and win the top prize of £1000.00

Then, on the 20th April, we had perfect conditions and dropped lucky on an offshore mark we have that seldom gets worked. Richard Horobrov from Barnsley was fishing with us on the day and clicked a beautiful cod weighing in at just over 14lbs.
When we got it back to the scales he weighed in at 13 lb 14 oz which meant he had taken the lead. The fish only had to hold for 2 more days and luckily for Richard it did!!

A very nice £1000.00 first place prize plus his £50.00 for heaviest fish of the day making it a great competition for Richard and the Shy-Torque crew!

I'd like to thank all those who fished with the Shy-Torque in this years Spring competition and hopefully we will see you all in the Summer one where we will be out to get our second win of the season!!

    13.04.2018.

Unbelievably crappy weather for this years Spring competition which started last weekend. We managed to get last Saturday, Sunday & Monday sailing on some lovely "flat calmers"
Since then, nothing but Easterlys with no-one moving anywhere.

We managed a couple of daily prize winners last weekend. A 1st and a 2nd which was ok. Both winners were pollack. One just over 7 lb caught by Adrian Smethurst from Huddersfield and the other just over 8lb caught by Tony Kingsley from Morcambe.

We are attempting tomorrow and hopefully we'll come across something to take over the leading fish which is a ling around 11 lbs .

We still have room on a couple of days next week and will sail with just 4 anglers.

    Tony Kingsley is pictured inset.

26 Mar 2018 by Rich Ward

    26.03.18.

Tried a couple of inshore marks to start the day just in case things had changed for the better, but sadly the water was still very cloudy. A couple of drifts for nothing and straight away the lads were all agreeing that the move to our "old faithful" bit of ground offshore was in order.

We set off and arrived at the grounds around 9.0 am and again were straight in to the fish. Nothing in double figures on the day but enough fish for everyone's table.

Father and son team and first time on the sea, Simon & Dan ended up with around 10 fish between them. The best codling of the day going to Rick (Dolf) from Hull at 8 lb.

The water certainly clearing nicely out on the more distant ground marks with a good few fish falling to the artificials.

    Rick is pictured.

The Spring competition starts very soon on April 7th. We still have some days with room. If you fancy having a go for the £1000.00 1st cash prize, give me a ring on any of the numbers below or drop me a mail.

25 Mar 2018 by Rich Ward

    25.03.18.

A mixed group of lads aboard the boat last Sunday from as far afield as Birmingham to Burnley.

After the days fishing before we decided that we were going straight back to the offshore marks and save some time. We started fishing around 9.0 am after a couple of hours steam and on arrival we were straight into fish.
"Sammy" the bull seal decided that he would join us and start pinching fish from our lines which was so annoying. Several pinched fish later we moved a mile or so up the ground and found another steady fishing. Like a few trips ago, he followed us up and down the drift spoiling the fishing for the rest of the day. We did end up with a half decent show but the fish that stood out from all the others was a cracking whiting which touched 2 lb 14 oz.

Orimus from Birmingham taking the whiting and pictured inset.

    Cheers
    Rich
