    26.10.2017.

Yesterday's group enjoyed a days rough ground fishing on the 9 mile boating around 70 fish between themselves. Plenty of different species boated. Lots of nice filleted fish for one and all for the table. Nothing big on this trip, the best going around 7lbs. Thanks to my lad Adam for filleting it all on the way back to port.

The boat operates all year round, weekdays and weekends and we will sail with a minimum of 3 anglers at this time of year.

    Cheers and tight lines

    12.10.17.

Bradford SAC joined us yesterday. Just 4 of the club turned up due to others having work commitments etc.

Because we had a nice light boat I was hoping to get a good run in and treat them to some offshore wrecking. Unfortunately the weather wasn't quite good enough to do that so we made a day of it working the more inshore marks. Nothing much to report inside 5 miles apart from stacks of Mackerel of which some were monsters!! As we moved a little further off we found the bottom fishing got better and better.
The ground on the 9 mile was fishing really well as we approached slack water. The majority of the fish were coming up on the bait, primarily Mackerel. Nice to see the Cod are starting to show up in stronger numbers at last. As I said before, once the "feed" starts depleting from the water the Cod fishing usually does start getting better and the signs are that that is happening now. Really looking forward to the Winter fishing. It is very often as good, if not better than the Summer fishing.

Steve Adams had the best day out of the group with some 15 fish for himself with Cod to 10lb 5oz.
Richard Spencer from Skipton had the heaviest fish of the day, a Ling of 12lb 4oz. He also bagged a couple of nice Cod as well to around the 10lb mark.

The lads ended up with around 50 white fish between them for the day and are pictured inset with some of their catch. Look forward to seeing you again soon lads.

I'm away on holiday now until next Sunday. The calendar is, as always, completely up to date so have a look if you fancy joining us for a trip after that.

    Tight lines as ever.

    26.09.2017.

How fortunes change from day to day!!

George Ho and his mates Simon Wong, Phil and Dennis chartered the boat today.

With us just having the 4 on board we decided that a run to a couple of wrecks offshore that hadn't been touched for some time was in order. The forecast was perfect for a run off, so after we gathered some huge Mackerel on the 9 mile we set off.
The first wreck only produced around 10 or a dozen fish with no real size about them. The 2nd wreck however produced a good selection of Cod,Ling, Coaley & Pollack.
On the 3rd drift across, Dennis hooked in to what looked to be a decent fish. I was winding a reasonable fish up at the same time which was a Cod around 8 lb. I went aft to stand next to Dennis to see what all the commotion was about. A rather large green "loom" started to show about 40 ft below us and as it approached the boat we all realised it was a good sized fish.
On a 5/0 hook with a small piece of Mackerel as bait, Dennis had boated his personal best Ling. A belter at 28lb 10 oz. The fish had blown on the way up so I guess it could have nudged, or even gone a shade over the 30 lb mark before losing it's stomach contents.
The lads ended up with around 40 odd fish between them for the day plus around 100 Mackerel we gathered at the end of the day. A great day for one and all.
Dennis is pictured with his PB. Well done mate!!

The last few trips on the Shy-Torque have been very up and down indeed with the big tides still with us.

Last Saturday we had a mixed group of lads aboard who dropped on to a reasonable day both weather wise and fish wise too. We fished a wreck some 17 miles from port and managed around 40 fish off it. The tide turned around 11 am and the South East breeze at the back of the ebb hindered us with too fast a drift. Ling to just short of 12lb and Cod to around the 8 lb mark making for a fairly nice show of fish for the lads for the mornings efforts.

Yesterday (Sunday 24.09) wasn't too bad either with Ling to around the 9 lb mark but very few Cod on board.

Today (Monday 25.09) Not very good at all with around 15 fish total aboard the boat between the 4 anglers.

Kev from Yarm is pictured with his best fish of the day on Saturday.

I now have 2018 tide tables and 2018 diary, so if you would like to make any bookings please feel free to give me a call to secure your trips. Any time between 8 am and 8 pm.

I now have the dates for the competitions in 2018 here at Whitby too.

    They are as follows :-
    Spring Comp :- 7th April - 22nd April inc.
    Summer Comp ;- 23rd June - 15th July inc.
Late Summer Comp :- 15th Sept - 30th Sept inc.

    17.09.2017.

The late Summer angling competition finished today at Whitby.

Sadly none of the boats moved at all this last week due to the constant crappy Northerly breeze we had with us. The competition was effectively won last Sunday with a lovely Ling of 19 lb 4 oz caught by Mathew Weatherhead from Wetherby North Yorks fishing aboard the Shy-Torque III.
Mathew had fished the previous weekend too but didn't manage anything of any size.

Prior to Mathew's winning fish the competition was being led by Simon Wong from Manchester with another fine Ling of 17 lb 7 oz also boated on the Shy-Torque III (pics in the gallery)

I'd like to thank everyone who fished with us in this years event and hopefully we will see you all again soon.

I would also like to thank our sponsors for the late Summer competition, Focus Training and Mr. Chips.

As ever we will be working right through the winter and we still have room on some of the weekends. Check the calendar for availability. We will sail with just 3 anglers. The latter end months can very often fish as well, if not better than the Summer months here at Whitby.

    09.09.2017.

Day 8 of the September angling competition here at Whitby saw some quality fish boated on the Shy-Torque.

With the last couple of trips proving very hard on these huge Springs I decided that a trip out to the grounds at the back of the 20 mile was probably the best idea to try and escape the strength of the tide.

The ground didn't produce a great deal of fish numbers wise but we did manage yet another fine daily winner with a cracking Ling of 19lb 04 oz caught by Mathew Weatherhead from Wetherby.

Mathew took 1st daily prize and is currently leading the competition. Simon Wong was previously leading with his 17 lb 7 oz Ling also caught on the Shy-Torque.

    Mathew is pictured inset.

We have room on the boat next Tuesday and Wednesday.

The late Summer angling competition started here at Whitby last Saturday and there have been a few decent fish landed to press.
The Shy-Torque anglers are having something of a Ling fest at present with some good strong fish being boated. A few other species too but with there being so much feed in the water at present the cod have become something of a rarity!! They will be back once the feed disappears.
George Ho and his mates from Manchester joined us the other day and had a reasonable days fishing. Again, they were nearly all Ling boated, but we did manage one of 17 lb 7 oz which is currently leading the competition. Simon Wong was the captor and is pictured.
The tides start falling again next week and by Wednesday they are at a good size to start wreck fishing again properly.
We have space on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
    Cheers
    Rich.

At last something to report after 5 trips out of Whitby this year.Fish the late Whitby competition yesterday. 7 on board, rich boat (shy-torque ) slow for the mackerels at first for bait then sail out for the hunting grounds 18 miles out. First wreck few small ling plus odd pollock and coley etc. Second wreck small results but the current was too strong so couldn't hold baits down for intended prize fish. Moved to other then mackerels show up by the thousands!! With that 5 of us fish for them to fill our cool boxes leaving two on the back fishing for the big stuff and BINGO. Our man Simon with best ling of the day and best fish so far in the coming competition. Weight 17lbs plus so not a big fish to beat by all means.. like the old chinaman says... "you ave to be in to win"

Mixed fortunes over the last week or so what with the massive Spring tides.

We know the fish are there but with the combination of tide speed and the amount of feed that is currently in the water the little devils have been quite hard to come by of late. Millions of Mackerel however, so if that's your passion then bring a nice cool box with ice !! Our Adam (my son) will gladly process them for you for a bob or two.

Yesterday didn't fish too bad overall with around 35 white fish on board to around the 8 lb 8oz mark and again, millions of Mackerel !!

The tides this week are a lot easier so hopefully we will see a bit of an improvement again with the numbers of white fish.

    Regards to all.

Some lovely, good quality fish showing up for some of the lads on the last few trips on the Shy-Torque III

The ground has been fishing fairly well with some good sized ling appearing with weights to just over 14 lbs. These bigger fish coming from the ground just 3 miles from shore. Plenty of fishing time when we work so close to home!!

A few of days ago we had to work very close to shore on a corporate day trip with a group of lads from Smiths Contractors from Huddersfield and Leeds. The wind was too fresh to venture offshore and we found ourselves fishing some 500 yards from the shore at one point !! The lads and lass pulled a few nice codling up on the baited Hokkais and a load of mackerel and were very happy with their day.

On the days we have managed to venture further afield we have been seeing catches of 70 plus fish on board plus loads of mackerel too.

Late Summer competition starts 2nd September. Some places left.
