This years Summer angling festival at Whitby proved to be a bit of a nervous one for John Wilcock from Bradford. On the first day of the event John managed to set the precedent with a very fine ling of 26lb 8oz aboard the Shy-Torque III. The next 22 days were to prove very lengthy indeed!! However, his fish did manage to hold out to the end and John will now receive a massive £5000.00 in cash for his long wait !!! The WCSA would like to thank all the anglers who took part in this years event and also to all our sponsors who very generously donate to the association each year, without whom we wouldn't be able to host such a prestigious event. Pictured is John with his winning fish. Well done mate!!

The Summer 2011 angling competition started today at Whitby and what a start John Wilcock had aboard the Shy-Torque III. John is a past winner of this prestigeous event and knows how to set the standard!!! Last drop of the day today on slack water rewarded John with a lovely cod of 14lb and a very fine ling of 26lb 8 oz. The festival has another 22 days to run and John will now be praying his fish holds out till the end for the £5000.00!!! Keep everything crossed !! Well done mate.

Cracking weather again this day for a great team of lads from the Leeds area. The fishing was pretty quiet on the morning so we pushed off to some wrecks 20 miles off and found good fishing for 3 or 4 hours. Best fish of the day was a lovely cod of 16lb 5oz. Had he caught this one a couple of weeks ago he would have won £1000.00 in the Spring Competition!! Unlucky !! Pictured is Will Thompson from Menston nr Leeds with his fish of 16lb 5oz., this being the heaviest cod caught this year from Whitby on a 10 hour trip.

The April competition has just come to an end with some cracking weather making for a great couple of weeks here in Whitby. We on the Shy-Torque tried our best as always in these events but couldn't manage the big one. Our best fish in this comp being a ling of 12lb and a few ounces, some 3lb short of the overall winner. Never the less everyone who entered with us had a great time and enjoyed some good fishing. A good few daily prizes were won with us also. We'd like to thank all those who fished with us in this years event and hope to see you all again soon. Maybe you could have a crack at the big one in the Summer festival ( 18.06 - 10.07 ) Pictured is Terry Harrison from Halifax with a 1st daily prize winner of 10lb.

Another mixed group of lads joined us on the 28th and had a great days sport aboard the Shy-Torque III. The fishing on the marks inshore is starting to improve a bit, however we found our best sport on a couple of wrecks some 17 miles to the East of the harbour. Plenty of cod to 8 / 9lb and plenty of pollack too. Best pollack being one of Alan Wards ( pictured ) from Whitby at 9lb. Cheers lads and we'll see you all again soon.

A very frosty morning greeted us on Friday just gone. Usually perfect conditions after a keen frost but sadly we had a NW breeze for most of the day which hampered the fishing for us. However during the period over slack water we did manage to find a good number of codling to the 7lb mark on a few of the inshore wrecks. Most of them falling to the squid bait. The hokkais also taking a few fish. Nothing on the shad on the day which was strange after the previous few trips where they had been working well. Anyway the main thing is is that the fish are still showing here at Whitby and the signs for the season are looking very good indeed !!

The weather today here at Whitby was superb as I'm sure it was in a lot of other angling ports around the country. We had a mixed group on today from as far afield as Southport. We made our way to the ground on the 9 mile to start with very poor results! Then, on and out to the wrecks on the 20 mile stream, again with fairly poor results considering there had been nobody out there for about 3 weeks! Oh well only one thing for it then. Another charge out to the "Wall" and fingers crossed all the way there. Good call !! Arriving there at around 9.30a.m and fishing through to around 2.45pm all the lads amassed a good amount of both cod and ling. Squid taking the better fish but the shads also catching well. Best cod of 10lb falling to Paul Pantellerisco from Southport ( pictured ) and best ling of around 10lb also going to Paul. A very fun filled day with both excellent fishing, excellent humour and excellent weather. Cheers lads and see you all again very soon. Rich.
