After a whole week of bad weather we finally got out today for a 5hr and 8hr double shuffle.
As always after a spell on NW winds the fishing was a little slow inshore on the 5hr but managed plenty of Dogs, Whiting a few Mackerel, a Red & Grey Gurnard and a baby Tope.
The 8hr trip proved much more successful with plenty of Mackerel, Dabs, Whiting, Huss, Dogs and another Grey Gurnard. For the last 2hrs we head inshore for a go on the Tope and were rewarded with a lovely 36lb male just as we were about to head home.
*please note all Tope are handled with care and returned unharmed*
Our diary is now filling up and we only have limited availability. If you would like to book a trip, call Sarah on 07863774909 to arrange a trip before it's full. -

***Fishing Report 26/4/22***
Today Merlin had an 8hr Charter with a regular group of great guys.
We set sail at 10:15 and head 8nm NNE of Rhyl where we had a good hr fishing constantly for Herring, Mackerel and Sand Lance.
After our fill of fish on the drift, we dropped our anchor a few mile further south and fished the bottom for the next few hours.
We sat happily for the next few hours fishing constantly for Thornback Rays, Bull Huss, Dogs, Dabs and Whiting.
We returned to Rhyl at 18:15 with a more than satisfied bunch.
A brilliant days fishing indeed, cracking weather and a great group of anglers.
We still have spaces for Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week and the weather looks brilliant too.
To take advantage of the good weather and fishing, call Sarah on 07863774909 and join us on Merlin -

Today saw our 1st Double Shuffle of the year with a regular party on an 8hr Charter followed by a mixture of regulars and 1st timers on a 5hr Individual trip.
We set off from Rhyl at 08:00 for the 8hr trip fishing a rough patch of ground approx 8mile NW of Rhyl were we fished steadily for a few hrs before relocating to a nearby wreck where the fishing improved further. This trip saw Dabs, Whiting, Dogfish, Thornback Rays, Sea Scorpion and Dragonet.
At 16:00 we left Rhyl once more for a 5hr and tried a new spot 6mile NE of Rhyl for the flood trip and the fish were none stop throughout the duration with plenty of Dabs, Whiting, Dogfish, Thornback Rays and the first Bull Huss of the year weighing in at 11lb.
A vast improvement in the fishing as we are moving further into April and it will only get better as we move further into the 2022 season.
We still have plenty of availability over the coming months and a lot more additional dates are now advertised.
Please call Sarah on 07863774909 to get booked on -

***Fishing Report 9/5/21***
Today was meant to be an 8hr with 6 Anglers but due to the unfavourable forecast for the afternoon we could only put on a 5hr flood trip. Unfortunately only 3 Anglers could make the 07:45 sail so we put to sea with just the 3 on board (this meant I could get in on the action so not too bad)
We arrived at our fruitful spot, dropped the anchor and shot the lines expecting action from the offset. Unfortunately the fishing this time had started slow putting this down to the tidal flow.
After a slow start, the fishing accelerated nicely and we were all landing some lovely fish. One of our guys was targeting his usual Dab's using 3 hook flappers baited with Lug and had 14 lovely sized ones by the end of the session. The rest of us were fishing flowing traces baited with Squid for the more sporting fish. By the time it came to punching the weather back to Rhyl we had an array of Smooth-hound, Rays, Dogs and our 1st small Tope of the year.
All in all a cracking steady session and a very enjoyable morning.
We arrived back in Rhyl by 2pm with happy Anglers and a happy Skipper who got in on the fun.
We still have spaces left from 25th May onwards so call Sarah for any enquiries on 07863774909 or visit our website for more info www.merlincharters.co.uk -

***Fishing Report 8/5/21***
The forecast today was giving gusts from the south but we decided to go ahead for an inshore session off Prestatyn with a Charter of 6 eager Anglers.
We were scheduled for a 12:00 departure for an 8hr trip but seen as everyone arrived at 11, we saw no reason to hang about and slipped our lines.
Once we dropped anchor, the lines were in. All Anglers were using single hook flowing traces some baited with Lug, Mackerel or whole Squid.
After only a couple of minutes the first of over 50 Smooth-hound was on, followed by the first of 8 Thornback Rays. It wasn't long after before a Bull Huss of 13.5lb was landed which was the biggest of the 20+ landed today.
The weather did deteriorate about 2pm but Merlin was holding anchor and riding well. All Anglers were given the option of heading beyond Talacre to more sheltered waters but insisted on staying put due to the quality and quantity of fishing (if it ain't broke don't fix it).
After a whole 8hrs sat at Anchor in the same spot it was time to bring up the anchor and punch the weather and flood tide back to Rhyl.
At 20:00 we arrived back in Rhyl Harbour with a very happy group whom knocked up a very impressive tally of:
54 Smooth-hound
32+ Dogfish
26+ Bull Huss
8 Thornback Rays
1 Flounder

*** Fishing Report 30/4/21***
Today Merlin departed Rhyl @ 11:00 bound for an inshore 5hr session off Prestatyn with a party of 4. The weather was flat calm with a light NW breeze and clear sunny skies.
We dropped anchor on location and fished the bottom with flappers and flowing traces baited with a mixture of Lug, Squid and Mackerel.
Soon after the 1st lines hit the bottom we were into the fish pulling in the first Smooth-Hound.
The fishing was constant from start to finish and a good mixture of species landed.
By the end of the session we were well into double figures of Large Dabs, Smooth-Hounds, Dogs, Whiting and Bull Huss. The Huss were ranging from 6lb to the very impressive 18.4lb wopper! A PB for our seasoned angler who caught him.
Just before we departed, a lovely brace of Flounder were reeled in which capped off a wonderful afternoon of inshore fishing.
Sadly the time had come to lift the anchor and head back to Sunny Rhyl and we arrived back in the Harbour @ 14:00 with a very happy bunch. All of which have booked again for next week in the hope of another cracking day of angling.
For Booking enquiries please call the lovely Sarah on 07863774909.
