There's been great numbers of bass around lately both offshore and even on our general trips. The lads have been easily achieving their quota and releasing loads more. Some days we have to work harder than others but that keeps it interesting. We've been catching on all manor of methods from lures and live baits to worms at anchor. I have spaces on offshore bass trips later this week and general fishing next week.
Moving into next month I have availability for general fishing and offshore trips, short trips and sightseeing from brightlingsea Essex before we head down to Falmouth for our tuna season. I have a couple of dates left for that too.

I was joined by a lovely new group for a 4hr trip the other day. Several of the lads were experienced former boat owners so I was particularly pleased to be able to put them on some quality fish. We saw several nice hounds, this decent bass and a couple of rays. I've got a little availability for these trips, general trips and offshore trips before we head to Falmouth for the tuna fishing.

Plenty more bass and Stanley was still catching them too. He was pleased with his lure choice on this one. He nicked a bass from this mark when they weren't playing ball for the others. The lads did well to keep up their enthusiasm through the rain and the fish came on the feed in the end.

Rain doesn't stop playing aboard Galloper! Sorry I've been quiet lately but life is hectic and I have had a run off offshore trips which means long days and no signal. however they have been rewarding as you can see. Some days we have had to work harder than others to find them but the lads have achieved their quota of 2 bass each and returned many more. We've seen other species too like mackerel, Launce, scad, weavers and hounds to name a few. I have spaces for offshore bass fishing next week and right through until December as well as general fishing, short trips and even tuna fishing when we relocate to Falmouth for a few weeks.

We had a lovely 4 hour trip when Liam and his family and friends joined us the other day. We had some cracking hounds, nice bass and even some baby tope. It's always great to see the the kids getting stuck in. I love seeing everyone enjoyed the experience regardless of age or gender. The weather was spot on too so who could ask for more.

With calm seas, roasting hot weather and some cracking bass fishing could we want for anything else? Well perhaps some of the lads could have used some more clothes by the looks of it but other than that we had another great day aboard Galloper. Richards group haven't always been blessed with good weather on their annual trip so who can blame them for making the most of it.
As well as the bass we had several hounds and even some thornback rays.
Fingers crossed there's plenty more where they came from over the coming weeks.

Unexpectedly available tomorrow for full day or shorter trips. The concert we were going to has been cancelled. We have plenty of sheltered marks and a big catamaran so there's no risk of me cancelling. Please call 07956411528

We've had some lovely fish over the last few trips. The weather has been spot on too so that makes life easier. From 4 hour trips to offshore trips bass have been out main target and they have been improving in numbers with the tides. There seems to be a huge amount of schoolies on the whitebait after this calm spell which makes for some good sport. In between the bass we've seen, smooth-hounds, rays and baby tope with other species featuring too.
We have spaces over the coming weeks for groups and individuals for various types of trips. Please get in touch if you are interested. I'm still trying to make dates work for our tuna fishing in Falmouth. They are pretty limited but I might release some more once these are booked up. Please get in touch if you are interested.

As many of you know by now one of my favourite things about sea fishing is the variety of fish. We can have an idea but we never know for sure what will come up next.
Just look at some of the fish we've had the last week for example. Many of which other local boats aren't seeing at all!
Jon surprised himself twice the other day with a decent codling and a cracking wrasse in between the countless bass, scad, mackerel and Launce.
Before that Paul's group maneged not one but 4 conger eels one morning! We've even had a little plaice and another stingray in between all the bass, hounds, tope, dogfish, thorn-backs, pouting ect.
The Thames estuary isn't known for producing a huge variety of fish so I'm pleased to see so much and it keeps it interesting for me too.

That's a wrap for our tope season. It looks like a bumper year for tope throughout the country and that includes Essex.
Targeting one specific species can often mean it's hit and miss. Particularly when that species is an apex predator (so there's fewer of them) but when it goes well it's hard to beat uptide fishing for tope. These not-so mini sharks are different gravy to anything else you will catch when uptiding.
I often say that the great thing about Essex is the average stamp is 35-45lb and the potential is for much bigger too.
We don't often get huge numbers but the fish we catch are worth the effort.
I was lucky enough to have a few single angler exclusive boat hires for tope this year. I feel even more pressure to find fish and justify their financial investment with me but thankfully it worked out very well for nick and Barry on their trips.
Barry gilders has tope fished the last few seasons (4 year 3 weeks) and often watched others catching fish while he missed the tope but smiled throughout. This year he got his tope, first a small 12-15lb fish, then a 47lb male then crowned it off with a female of 67lb!!
Nicks trip was memorable too with his pb smashed with a fish of 57lb one of 11 he caught that day and lost 6 more!! The previous day John's group had 11 tope as well and lost 8!
There's far too many others to mention but I do want to mention my mate Wayne. He fished on my charter boats for nearly 20 years and loved his tope fished. Last year he sadly passed away although he broke his pb tope just weeks before hand.
He left his tackle to us and I thought it would be fitting to use his rods and reels for tope this year. They accounted for the vast majority of fish this year. I'm sure he was watching over us. Hopefully we did him proud though I wish he could have joined us.
