Its been just over a week since our last update and the autumn festival is in full swing here at Whitby.
I've been working my socks off as always trying to get the Mistress anglers among fish. Leading up to the festival, a few nice fish started poking their heads out giving me high hopes for the event.
During the big tides we were fishing the ground and luckily there seemed to be a good number a double figure fish lurking on the hard ridges, as the tides lift again I can see us returning to the ground, we had an 18lber off the ground prior to the festival so there's always every chance of a winner cruising around.
As the tides eased we started fishing the wrecks, we have had a pretty good week aboard Mistress, with many double figure fish boated and many daily prizes to our anglers.
We're currently leading the event with a a cracking Ling of 23lb 2 1/2oz, but had another 18lber earlier in the week as well as fish just short of 16lb and absolutely loads of 11-12lb fish.
There still a week to run and there's every chance of catching a bigger one. we have a few remaining places this week on Friday.
I'm offering a short morning trip on the 29th of this month, running 7am-12 noon. it'll be £25 per person.
If you fancy a crack at the festival or just joining me for a days fishing drop me a line on 07977 436903, E-mail: seafishingwhitby@hotmail.co.uk or drop me a message on my FB page Mistress Sea Angling Charters.

Time for an update, as always I've been keeping busy with my camera this last week or so, we've been through a set of neap tides and now starting back up into a set of springs. I'm glad of a day off this week for some family time and a bit of a catch up on here.
We've managed some quality fish again with two pushing 18-20lb this last 12 days. one was on a massive 5.8m tide! and the other on a 5.2m, so its goes to show with clear water and a bit of luck its still possible to catch the big ones! so that 3 over 18lb in the last 3 weeks.
Its the time of year where we see more Ling than Cod and its this time of year many people beat their PB's, with us bait fishing a lot we do catch mainly Ling but with some better quality Cod too.
The Autumn festival starts next Weekend for 2 weeks. with £1000 for the biggest fish over the event. We still have dates available on some better tides so give me call if you fancy a chance on the £1000!
The Uptide competition dates have been confirmed as 5th November - 20th November, the dates are starting to fill on that already so, get your bookings in early to get the best tides.

Another excellent trip on the Mistress with Rich. for a change it was an evening trip with my sister and her family. A short trip out past the piers he soon put us on plenty of mackerel to start us off then off we went in search of bigger fish We caught two beautiful big Pollock and a nice size cod. Three or four undersized cod went back for another day. For a family's evening fishing it was ideal and would definitely recommend it with Rich keeping an eye on everybody and sorting out tangles and making sure we were all doing it right.

Its been a couple of weeks since out last update, in all honesty the fishing remains up and down, with the best fishing on the neap tides.
Since our last report we had a set of springs and the fishing was very hard work indeed, a full week of high winds keeping us ashore and a week of neap tides. As always I continue to work my socks off for my anglers, covering the ground I need to to get the lads a few fish.
So the inshore wrecks and grounds have produced well with some lovely fish boated, our best fish, an absolutely cracking 18lb 8oz Cod for John Harman, a Mistress regular, the same trip saw him boat a nice ling into double figures too.
We had our first 3 hour evening trip of the year, with plenty of Mackerel boated and everyone caught either Pollock or Cod too so happy faces all round there.
Just look through the photos from the last week or so on my facebook page, lots of happy anglers!
I have spaces coming up in the next week or so,
Tue 23rd Aug - 8 places
Wed 24th Aug - 10 places
Thur 25th aug - 10 places

Its been a week since our last update, its been a steady week with us landing some quality fish, anglers aboard Mistress have seen Ling to 15lb on baited lures and plenty of Cod between 8lb & 10lb on shads.
The same group booked me for three days for a corporate event, and took some quality fish between them throughout the three days. The weather was kind to us and the lads wanted a BBQ one day so we arranged that for them!
I'm happy to accommodate any requests on the boat.
As the tides eased the fishing inshore came on with bang on the shads again. I had a couple of new anglers aboard that caught very well, these lads did the research on my website and followed the advise on the pages.
So please if you're new on my boat have look though my website www.mistress-whitby.co.uk

Fishing Report by Shams Uddin

First trip out on Mistress this year. We were quite lucky with the weather as forecast wasn't that good. We sailed an hour later than usual giving a chance for the wind to die down and the waters to calm a little. Suits me just fine as I have a long drive to get to Whitby. Anyway, once we were out, all caught a few mackerel for bait then onto some wrecking. Fishing wasn't hectic but a few good sized cod and ling were taken, ranging from 6 to 10 pounders. As always Richard works hard to keep us on the fish and helps everyone with bringing fish in and with the tangles some get into. Overall a good days fishing with enough caught to keep everyone happy. In my opinion Richard a faultless skipper. Looking forward to my next trip, hopefully asap. See ya soon Rich.

Its been a while since my last report, in between we've managed to lose another week to bad weather, the algae has cleared now and the water is clearing daily.
The Mackerel have arrived in numbers, a little offshore now and the Ling have started moving and feeding now too. The fishing was tricky over the bigger tides but as they've eased the fishing has come on well.
Most trips this week we've seen Ling to just under double figures and Cod to 7/8lb. Today though with the tides easing we've seen our best Cod this year bouncing the boat scales between 13lb & 14lb 8oz, the same drift also saw Ling to just under 11lb, we had other Cod to 8/9lb and Ling to similar size too, the best angler taking 15 fish.
With the tides dropping further this week and a settled spell we will making the most of it! we only have a few spare spaces this week,
3 places - Tuesday 14th
3 places - Sunday 19th

The last couple of days have seen us hit the wrecks on the small tides,
Its been good to see the fish start hitting the shads again as the water has begun to clear a bit.
We've been averaging 40 odd Cod & Ling each trip,
We caught a cracking Wolf fish on Monday to lucky angler, Jon from Beverley (see picture)

Fishing Report by Rich Cope

Mistress Weekly Round Up
Its been around a week since our last report, in one way its good that we’ve been getting to sea a bit more regularly, in another way its been quite hard work, working around the May algae bloom. With the algae being patchy its meant that no two days are the same, and as the tides have lifted its made fishing quite difficult, never the less we’ve put to sea and got our anglers a few fish to take home. As the tides drop this week the fishing should become more productive.
Early on in the week we experienced some cracking weather and managed to get out and do a bit of Wrecking for a few hours before the wind came on fresh in the afternoon.
The lads who had all fished before but not really done any wrecking managed to rake up a good few fish each for the morning, we managed a few up to 6lb in weight but most in the 2lb - 4lb region.
As the wind freshened on we ran inshore and dropped the anchor to finish the day raking a few more codlings together.
After the previous trip we were tied up a day, then back the day after, the tides had lifted and with only a couple of lads booked on, we stayed inshore Uptiding.
We admittedly had a slow start to the day, moving around raking a few fish here and there. Our 2nd move produced a real nice fresh run cod just over 6lb for one the lads, so it lifted everyones spirits a bit.
Another move saw us boat a few more fish to 4lb just before we lost the tide run, and I upped anchor for a move to one of my more consistent ledges.
The move was a good call, we started getting bites as soon as we’d shut off the engine, we experienced a steady couple of hours with everyone on board getting a few fish and bites.
My good mate Alex came along to help out and wet a line, and also bought his son Kai for a run off.
Kai got one around 4lb and was absolutely proud as punch!
I was fishing too, and despite a bit of a lean time for myself the last couple of trips I was actually managing to bag a few fish!
Ive been trying to run my baits stocks down a bit for next winter so I was using a lot of crab based baits, Ive still got a lot of Black lug worm too, The cart fished well, getting me quite a few bites, the Worm, Mussel and squid also fished well for everyone else on board.
The bites dried up a bit, so we upped anchor for our final move of the day.
It was a good move, no sooner had we settled in got our baits cast in, Kai’s rod started twitching with slow long pulls on his tip. . . . . You guessed it, best fish of the day! It was only ounces short of his PB, he was really buzzing!
Then on his next cast, still absolutely buzzing from his 7lber, the jammy little git only went and clicked a 5lber too!
The lads on board, including his dad were all proud as punch to see the young lad get a few nice fish, as it was Kai finished up with 6 nice cod to take home, and fished the best on the boat . . . . . again!
The tides in the following days took a pretty big jump, and the fishing tailed off a bit for the lads, we still manged fish for the boys though and always put 110% effort in finding our anglers a few fish.
