14th September
We bit the bullet and went for a good steam off today, the journey was well worth it, all the fish were 4/5lb-8/9lb, unbelievable stamp of cod, needless to say the lads were all over the moon!
The autumn fishing has followed on from an outstanding summer here at Whitby
The fish are still out there, so we just need a spell of good weather to get to the offshore wrecks to extract them!
I'm putting a festive sweepstake in place this winter on Mistress Its going to be an all in, all out event, we already have around £1000 worth of tackle and cash prizes up for grabs, details to follow!
If you would like a bash at the amazing wrecking we're currently experiencing or a crack at our festive sweepstake, give me a call on 07977 436903,

Seeing as we had done so well yesterday, I had to return to the wreck we were fishing, even as we left we were still getting 7 / 8 rods a drift into fish.
So, we set off over the horizon again! we had a quick stop on the 9 mile ground to break the journey up and get some fresh bait, where mackerel and herrings seemed to jump aboard!
As we arrived at our wreck, the marks didn't seem to be showing as they were the day before so a couple of drifts and just a couple of fish later we moved around to a couple of near by wrecks just scratching a few fish together, I had a feeling with a change in tide things may pick up . . . .
They did, as we got back to our first wreck we must of taken at least a dozen fish on our first drift. Smiles all round the boat as we then took a steady picking of fish until home time, everybody catching plenty on shads.
The lads were still filleting as we came into the bay at whitby some 2 1/2 hours later, not as hectic as the day before but certainly another good day for the mistress anglers.

Its been over a week since we were last at sea here at #whitby due to these northerly winds!
Well it was worth the wait, the Mistress anglers absolutely smashed it again today, we ended up a good way offshore and hit our mark by 1130am, i ordered lines up for home at 2am, the action was non-stop every rod into fish every drift, some lucky anglers getting 2 or 3 per drift.
Paul Brennan treated his fishing mad daughter, Milly to her first sea fishing trip today, she fished her socks off and landed some beauty's, ling to just under double figures and some belting cod to around 8lb too. well done Milly!
Everyone was banging em out, they couldn't fail, the more experienced lads throwing a good few back too, we must of boated 200+ cod in just a couple of hours.
The best Cod hovered around 10lb for local angler roy from snaith, and the best ling went just over 10lb for Mistress regular Peter McCulough from Marton in Middlesbrough.
Most fish fell to shads, despite dropping big baits for the better fish we just couldnt get through the the cod all in the 4lb-6lb range.
If you fancy getting a slice of this autumn cod bonanza give me a call on 07977 436903. or drop me a message on my Facebook page Mistress Sea Angling Charters,

Finally I've found a bit of time to report on our last week or so here at Whitby .
Id like to say the #Mistress anglers filled the boat everyday, but I can't, BUT the fishing has remained steady / good, I found yet another couple of new ridges with my Maxsea as the tides started picking up and they produced well for us over a couple of days, nothing huge most fish in the 2lb-4lb range with the odd 6lber chucked in, again all on shads.
The wrecking produced good catches on the small tides with a better stamp of fish boated, all happy lads one crew caught more than enough and left a bit of fish behind saying they had more than they wanted, so I passed a few fillets round the local to few mates, who were appreciative.
Our last day of the week we saw a very small window in the forecast, as the sea came away northerly, I knew we'd have the weather behind us on the way home, I took a gamble and had a run offshore to a well known wreck, it payed off for us with us having one of the best days of the year, Pollock to just under 9lb and lots and lots of prime Whitby cod,
We managed a couple of hours wrecking on our chosen mark before the sea came away but it was more then enough time to satisfy the lads! the fishing was absolutely frantic! most fish in the 4lb-6lb range with a good few around the 8lb mark. all on shads and light gear.
We are now closing in our Autumn festival which starts on the 5th September for 2 weeks, £1000 up for grabs as a top prize plus daily prizes for heaviest three fish weighed, we got the 2nd heaviest fish last year and won the event the year before on Mistress.

We've been hampered here in Whitby for a day and had to cut yesterday short due to weather, we managed to sneak in 6 hours yesterday but it was more than enough time to get the lads some fish!
The reefs have been throwing out a lot of fish, we finished our last drift by 1115am yesterday morning and the 8 lads onboard had already taken well over 100 cod, the best angler catching over 30 himself, it really doesnt get much better!
Everybody onboard returned as many as they took, just keeping the better fish.
we have spaces this week remaining tomorrow (wednesday) and thursday,

The fishing remains red hot up here in Whitby since our last report, Plenty of double figure fish landed by Mistress anglers, Nothing huge, Lings to 15lb and Cod to 13lb.
The last week or so has seen us putting the new Maxsea system through its paces on new ground for us, and its been doing everything I thought it would! we're finding loads of new reef marks with us boating well over 100 cod each day we've been sailing, the lads have been keeping the better ones and returning a lot of fish too, always great to see lads doing their bit for conservation.
We recently ran a short charity event up here one evening in Whitby for the RNLI, which all the Whitby Charter Skippers take part in, The night was a huge success, we raised just over £1100 for a very worthy cause. Mistress managed to win the event with the heaviest fish, A nice Ling of 14lb 2oz to local angler John Dixon - well done mate, The Fleece Pub hosted the event for us and did a sterling job providing the lads with refreshments and top class beverages during our presentation and charity raffle.

Its been a good few days for us on Mistress here at Whitby .
Today sort of stands out a bit really, we caught quite a few different species today, but we managed a handful of really nice fish, both Cod and Ling into double figures, nothing huge topping out at around 11lb but great to see non the less
We had a regular group on from Grimsby, we got off to a flying start then it went quiet for an hour or two then as we moved round the last two marks chucked us some really nice fish out, including, a Wolf Fish for Chris and a Ballan Wrasse to one of the other guys onboard.
Chris the lucky devil manged two double figure cod today, there were plenty of fish for everyone, inlcuding quite a lot of throw back stuff. Most of the fish were caught in bait rigs baited with fresh mackerel and squid.

Its been a while since I posted anything up,with the fishing and maintenance there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day sometimes!
We have had mixed fishing this last few weeks here in Whitby, some great days some not so great days, we ran a Haddock trip recently which fell into one of those not so good days! we worked hard to find a few fish with our last mark throwing out a few fish to take home for the lads with some nice fish lost off!
This week has seen the water begin to clear out properly and with it mackerel in numbers everyday, and along with them the Ling have suddenly woken up too, we have seen a few fish into double figures start appearing on the ground this last few trips.
Yesterday we lost a really good fish, even so, we landed cod to over 12lb and Ling 18lb, all on fresh mackerel. and get this folks, we were only 3 miles offshore!
The next few weeks should see a lift in numbers of Ling with the possibility of a Croc or two, The big baits have also taken a number of double figure cod this last few weeks,

The Fishing has been a bit up and down since our last report, most days we've managed good bags of fish for our crews,
Saturday we got off to slow start, but we always pick and move trying to find us a cod nest, one mark produced quite well for us in the end, and the rest of the places chucking just a few out we raked up around 60 fish for our anglers, plus a daily winner in the festival and a place in the ladies section.
Sunday though was very testing with the poor conditions we had wind wise, the lads only raking up around 25 for the boat, saying that though, most were pretty good stamp.
The day after we went to sea, feeling a bit beaten by the previous days results and had a red letter day! the job certainly keeps you on your toes and it goes to show, two days are never the same!
we managed to boat around 130 cod, ling and pollock.
Yesterday, 30th June, we knew the weather would be coming away steady through the day, with that in mind i pushed tide knowing the weather would be behind us on the way home, again a good day for us, we worked wrecks all day and tbh had a good bit of drift to start, but maybe 6 or 7 times had the whole boat into fish at the same time,
one lad at the back trying for mackerel and small fish for fresh bait pullled in three cod at a time on quite a few drifts, once the tide eased we hit the scrap, one of our regulars lost a good fish on a pouting flapper - but thats fishing!
I never counted numbers of fish but most of the lads had over 10 fish a piece, some had around 15.

The awesome Fishing continues here at whitby .
The fishing today has been absolutely spot on again, we started out wrecking this morning with big baits for big fish, we got plenty of fish each drift, but not the size we were looking for!
We moved about and then some of the lads ran out of bait! we moved onto some ground to try and find mackerel in numbers all the lads did was start bringing cod in three at time! so we stayed a while and smashed them with the shads before moving away in search of mackerel.
We went all the way out to the 7 miles but had no drift, in the end we hit the 2nd slack water with pouting, coalies and a few odds and sods for bait! we moved inshore and suddenly found a few mackerel - at last!
The lads carried on bait fishing and i got stuck in getting them some bait, and it did the trick, we took a daily 2nd spot with a Ling 11lb 5oz, the same lad also got a nice cod around 10lb too, we lost a good one just shy of the gaff, we saw it estimated it to be around 15 / 16lb!
Its certainly the best show of mackerel we've had all year up till now, taking two thirds of a gorrilla tub.
With a good forecast tomorrow and small tides we'll be hoping to better our day and see a few better fish as they seem to be poking their noses out at last.
