Right folks,
looking at possibly having a crack at a species hunt, once a month, I still have to devise a points system for the day for the species, winner will receive a Mistress Hoody.
With us fishing inshore I will offer the trip price at £45 per person (same as uptiding) and cap the trip to ten people.
Im looking at friday 24th of May to for the first one.
Species we caught last year include,
dabs, plaice, rays, halibut, pollock, coalies, cod , ling, ,mackerel, whiting, pouting, dogffish, sunfish, poor cod, weavers, there will be more but just pulled these of the top of my head,
I will be looking at anchoring and drfiting both soft and hard ground and also inshore wrecks

We fished Thursday this week with favourable conditions allowing us to get to sea.
With only two people booked on we stayed inshore uptide fishing.
It was a steady day really, biggest fish was around 6lb in weight, with everyone getting around half a dozen Cod each. Everybody caught fish to take home and with only three of us fishing we managed between 15 and 20 Cod between us. There were plenty of Pouting and Whitings caught too, just to keep the rod tips ratting.
Baits used were Squid, black lug, peeler crab, cart and razorfish.

We managed our first day at sea today for weeks due to the bad weather.
With us just having had a set of northerlies, plenty of colour in the water and spring tides, we gave the uptiding a shot.
The sport was steady all day with plenty of fish for the lads onboard. the fish were all in the 2lb to 6lb bracket. with around 40 codlings taken all day.
The best rod took in excess of a dozen codlings losing a few too.
The fish were favouring cart today but the lads fishing with worm and squid also took plenty of fish.

We managed to get a trip to sea on Sunday after being tied up alongside for nearly 3 weeks. The weather gods were finally on our side for change!
We went uptiding as we had a bit of breeze from the SW and we had a fairly large tide too.
I had a mixed party onboard of 6, and given the time of year they fished quite well, everyone taking a few fish for the table.
Best angler was Rich from the Boro with 9 Cod to take home which he caught mainly on fresh Lug.
Other baits that produced were, Frozen Lug, Crab Cart, Mussel, Squid, Peeler and cocktails of the said baits.
we finished up with around 35 Cod for the day to take home, we caught Cod, Whiting, Pouting, Lesser Spotted Dogfish and a rogue Dab!
Pictured is Ben from the Boro with his best two fish of the day.

Another fantastic day today aboard Mistress. We managed to take the the daily prize with a cod of 7lb 12oz for Graham Thurlow of Redcar, netting him £50 for his efforts, well done Graham.
Top bag weight onboard today went to Mistress regular John Dioxn also from Redcar, he managed a respectable bag weight of 47lb 2 1/2oz, not as good as his 57lb bag earlier in the week.
We had around 30 to 40 cod today, a rogue Pollock and a few Pouts.
The Cod were all in the 3lb to 6lb class and in fighting fit condition. We're starting to see a few fresh run fish now.

Today we managed to get amoung some nice fish. The day started with virtually no wind at all and stayed flat all day!
The biggest of the day was caught right at the end of the day on the last drop, luckily it took the daily prize for the biggest Cod in the uptide festival we're currently running here at Whitby.
Neil Dronsfield took the beauty which weighed in at 11lb after a faily hard day at sea, with bites being hard to come by. His pal Andy officer had been leading all day with another fine Cod of 9lb 9oz caught first thing this morning.
Andy also managed a respectable Ling of 8lb 8oz. The lads managed around 20 to 30 Cod today which was quite slow. Even so, the lads from Hull enjoyed their day out with us again.
We also saw our first Lesser Spotted Dogfish onboard Mistress today, we dont get many up here in Whitby so it was a welcome sight, and also puts the Mistress species count up another notch to 20!
Pictured is todays biggest fish of 11lb with its captor Neil Dronsfield, which won the lucky lad £50 for his efforts, well done mate

Uptide Competition so far . . .
I think its about time I wrote an update as Ive been a bit busy just lately with the current uptiding competition we're running here at Whitby. Even with the stiff winds we're still getting away fishing everyday with some fantastic results.
The first two days of the competition we had small tides and as a result the sport turned out to be a little slow with us only taking 20-30 codlings each day upto around 7lb or 8lb in weight.
The third day however saw a big jump in the size of the tides, this resulted in some excellent sport onboard Mistress, we took Cod over 10lb in weight (whick took the daily prize and is currently third heaviest Cod overall) and individual bags in excess of 57lb per angler. All fish caught seemed to be between 4lb-6lb with a scattering of better fish thrown in.
Today the big ones were a bit elusive, but the best angler onboard took 8 Cod all weighing between 3lb and 6lb, not a bad bag of fish at all. The biggest today weighed in at 5lb 12oz by local angler Andy Spilman and made the lucky chap £50 for his efforts. Well done mate.
Pictured is John Dixon winner of the 2011 uptide festival with his bag of cod weighing in at 57lb 10oz taken on the 12/11/12

1st week in November
The uptiding has certainly come on with a bang this week following the last big northerly. We have been experiencing some phenominal sport, seeing a good number of double figure cod, most of the catches have had good numbers of fish in the 5lb to 8lb bracket too.
There have been many new PB fish for the anglers onboard Mistress. I cant stress how good a quality the fish are in, all big fat bellies and firm flesh.
Some of the anglers have been taking up to a dozen fish home each for the day.
Im really looking forward to the upcoming Uptide festival, Im pretty confident we could see a fish in the 20's this year. I still have a few spaces left so book on to be in with a chance of winning £1000!
Its a pitty I cant add more than 1 photo to this report as there have so many good fish caught this week.
Remember folks all these fish were caught within a few hundred yards of land, we are usually fishing within 20 minutes of leaving port, there is no need to be flying off over the horizon with fish of this quality right on your door step.
Pictured is local lad Paul Britton with his two best fish of the day, part of his 10 fish haul. Both fish into double figures!!
