With the algae bloom colouring the water as it is at the minute and tides being as lively as they are, we had a run off the wall yesterday. I had group of novices onboard so fishing was a bit slow, we managed to get a few fish for the lads though we got a nice double figure cod for Ian, and also managed a ling into double figures. The lads left happy though having caught a few between them.

With the small tides we decided on a days wrecking, with virtually no wind all day it was perfect. we worked a few wrecks on the 4 mile, the sport wasnt hectic but we took a steady picking of cod everywhere we stopped, the biggest of the day went 8 1/2lb for Mick Thurlow, which is a new PB for him. the majority of the fish were in the 4-6lb bracket. We also managed a a cat fish which are a bit of rarity, nice to see though.

With the huge tides last weekend we decided on a days uptiding, probably the last day uptiding until next winter. I fished with paul on sea otter 2 the day before and got a few fish, so expectations were quite high.
Myself, regular lads, Ray and Alan, and killer jumped aboard, and off we set to fish the ebb tide.
It was slower than the day previous, but out of the 6 hour session Ray had 4 fish, Alan had a few killer managed a couple and I managed 1! the fish were all between 2lb and 5lb, it was a fantastic day at sea just like a summers day.

Today saw settled weather again, so with only a couple of lads interested in a trip we set sail for a bit of winter uptiding. we had a good spring tide today with plenty of tide to get the fish feeding. we had a great start with me catching a fish touching 10lb, but the rest of the day proved a bit slow despite a few moves. we finally called it day when the heavens opened and we got a dollop of snow!

I only had 4 lads booked ontoday so it gave me a chance to wet a line for a change! we had a smaller tide today, but the sea was flat it was a lovely day to be at sea once the sun poked through the clouds. we started in the same spot we left the day before and were into codlings from the start, again it was slow, but i tried something a bit different today, i moved the boat everytime the bites dried up and as a result found the lads a few more fish and they seemed to be of much better stamp too, the best lad had half a dozen fish upto 7lb,
pictures youres truely with one around 5lb -

The fishing party from west yorkshire police have been trying to get out uptiding for a few months now, and finally with a break in the weather we managed to get out, it was a bit bumpy to start with having wind over tide. It was hard work from the start with us catching a few whiting and pouting only on the flood tide, we had quite a efw missed bites too. Anyway as the ebb tide approached we moved and intatntly got into the codlings. It was a faily slow day with the cod going to around 4 1/2lb.

The winter uptide festival is underway and we managed a day at sea with a couple of regular lads who had been looking forward the day for months.
We got under the bridge at 8am and headed towards one of Whitby's popular uptiding marks just a couple of miles up the coast off sandsend.
The lads had bought a mate with them so we had three anglers fishing the competition with us today, they had some quality bait with them too, fresh lug, frozen black lug, mussel, squid, cart and a few peelers.
It paid off for the lads having all that good bait, within minutes af settling into anchor everyone was getting bites and few codlings starting coming over the gunnels.
About an hour in, one of the lads John said he'd hooked soemthing a bit better, and seeing as it was staying deep it looked a bit better stamp of fish, when we got it in the hook just slipped out its mouth, so lucky there! it took the scales round to about 7 1/2lb which is nice fish by any standards. The fishing continued to be quite good until the tide eased and the fish went right off the feed. We upped anchor and moved to another mark which we hoped might have a bit of tide running but it was quiet so we moved back to the other mark for the start of the tide, the fish seemed slow coming back on but they did, and one of the lads managed around another 6 fish before home time. Andy cod-catcher Stonehouse managed around a dozen fish for the day all between 2 and 5lb, the other lads managed around half a dozen fish each too upto 6lbas well as the 7lber.
Back at the weigh-in we were delighted to learn that John had the heaviest cod of the day making him £50 for his efforts, also being a new uptide PB for him.
