    Report on-board Just Mary

Hi All, well I'm back and to celebrate that, we are giving you the NO FISH- NO FEE promise, put simply, if you fish the way that we show you using our rigs and bait you WILL catch fish, of that we are confident !
Whilst we all await the 'magic' ten degrees C that triggers the feeding and the arrival of our glorious Black Bream the month of May gets closer and closer. Reports of Turbot and Plaice to the West have been made with some good photos on the 'net but with the coming season interrupted by unwelcome Easterly winds and rain. Further offshore there seem to be a few Spurdog (nice to see them making a comeback) and Blonde Rays but once again the weather conditions have interrupted any consistent reports. So..........we await the Black Bream !
My Commercial mates tell me that they are netting 'Summer Species' ie. Bream, Bass, Sole and Plaice so although the water is cold and the fish aren't taking baits properly yet, it all looks good for the Inshore Fishing soon. Bring on May and we'll be out there after them............thanks to one and all, Malc

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

A quick summary of the week aboard Silver Spray II for you. First 4 day Alderney trip completed in some terrible weather, got down to the turbot grounds both days but mixed success due to the weather conditions. Ashley Williams bagging the first cross channel double figure of the year at 11lb 4oz. On the wrecks there are plenty of pollock and the first of this years summer cod along with too many congers to count. The offshore banks are still holding lots of rays and spurdogs. Next month will see our first Cherbourg trip and another venture over to Alderney.

    Report on-board Flamer IV

THE SUSSEX BOYS DO GOOD WITH A CHANGE OF PLAN - Dave Metcalf and his mates from Sussex joined Flamer IV for their annual Spring flatty trip but due to the constant unsettled weather the water clarity was not suitable for drift fishing for flatty's. They were not detered when I suggested the best thing to do would be to anchor up on the banks and see what comes. During their two days we only saw two flatty's a Turbot and a Dab but the quality of the other fish they caught was really good. Several Blonde Rays up to 25Ib were caught along with Spotted Rays and an 11Ib Undulate Ray.Also some excellent Spurdogs were caught in the 12 to 18Ib range. Other species caught were Bull Huss,Whiting,Pout and Dogfish. All the fish were released alive. The crew used down tide and up tide tatics with the successful baits being combinations of Ammo Squid and Mackerel.John Hole did particularly well landing several species and the two top fish with a 25Ib Blonde Ray and an 18Ib Spurdog.John is pictured with his big Blonde.
LUCKY STU - Stuart Johnson was sat down having a chat when his rod bent over and dissapeared over the side."OH DEAR" Stu said.Well not quite in them words. But 10 minutes later Paul Francis thought he was reeling up a fish when in fact his trace had tangled around stu's tackle and up come a Blonde Ray and Stu's rod and reel.I guess Stuart may be doing the lottery this week to see if his luck is really in.

  • 04/2013 Fishing Report by Lyle Stantiford on Supanova II (Weymouth, Dorset)

    Apr 2013 by Lyle Stantiford

    Report on-board Supanova II

    Hi All,

Well what weather we have experienced over the last month!

I think March last year lulled us into a false sense of security, relentless easterly wind has put pay to many trips for the whole Weymouth fleet throughout March. It certainly is the worst start to the year I can remember.

The water temperature is about 3-4 degrees colder than normal, combine this with coloured water it has made the inshore fishing a little challenging. The fish are there we just need conditions to improve in our favour Nd I'm sure the plaice and turbot will be hungry!

The wrecking continued to offer all anglers fantastic sport when we could get out there.

The coming month hopefully will offer all you anglers some better weather and in turn offer much improved inshore sport with plaice and turbot top of the list and towards the end of the month maybe an early bream or two.

Wrecking should see continued pollack action, improving ling numbers and the arrival of the first Cod.

Pictured is Charlie Butcher with his PB Plaice landed on one of the nice days last month.

Thanks to all who continue to support Weymouth and Supanova II.

Tight lines to all for the coming month,

    Lyle

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

After a long cold spell the fishing is starting to come alive, the Pollack have appeared on the wrecks in good size and numbers but most of our time has been either Ray fishing on the smaller tides or Turbot fishing we have landed good fish up to 20lb so far and although several small ones have been put back for another day the numbers have been good, due to popular request I will be doing more mid week trips in March, if your up for Pollack, Rays or Turbot please call.

  • 03/2013 Fishing Report by Pete Gough on Beowulf (Poole, Dorset)

    Mar 2013 by Pete Gough

    Report on-board Beowulf

February was not as bad as it could have been, with some good Ray fishing on the offshore banks.
March has started well, with Rays, and a lot of sport with Turbot and Brill. Some boats have caught some whoppers, but they have tended to be the odd one. we have done well with no's however, even if we have put nearly all back!
It has been a very cold start to the year and water temperatures are down as well as the non appearance of sand eels so far.
It will not be long before Bream start to move in though, and although the offshore wrecks can fish well, it's not been the weather to go that far.
NOW is the time for that lifetime best Turbot Brill or Plaice. Give me a ring, I still have a few spaces.
