Report on-board Katie Ann
Fished for three days on Katie Ann, from the 23rd September - 25th September. Excellent and varied catches each day. Hitting the Sea Bass first thing in the morning, with all that fished catching good sized fish, before moving on to catch a good mix of Black Bream, Red Gurnard and the odd plaice. Finally, moving to fish for Brill and wonderful Turbut.

Report on-board Silver Spray II
The bass fishing on the offshore bass has been patchy but on the best days there have been plenty of fish in the 5-10lb region with both live mackerel and sidewinders working well. Our “Big Fish Days” when we fish a wreck and then move to a bank have proven to be very popular with congers to 50lb, tope to 30lb and some nice blonde rays which have just appeared in numbers. The shambles is fishing well with 12 flats on our last trip with the best turbot going to 14lb. Plenty of mackerel and sandeels for bait. The sharking has been frustrating with choppy conditions almost every day. 2 hook ups while wreck fishing but neither fish brought along side.

The weather & fish gods were smiling on us as we headed west towards Dancing Ledge. Although we struggled to find the mackerel we eventually got enough for the day. A total of 20 rays were boated with the biggest falling to Gary at 14lb. All fish were returned alive after a quick photo.

A recent trip along the jurassic coast with a crew from Thames Valley Police produced some great ray action. Pictured here is Sid with a fine 13lb specimen. After a quick photo the fish was returned to fight another day. It was hard luck for organiser, Pete, who lost a big bass on the surface before yours truly could get the net!!

FLAMING FLATTIES - Dave Metcalf,Roger Buttle,Steve Wells and Kevin all from Sussex enjoyed a days plaice fishing on Flamer III that will rank as one of their best ever. The signs were not good with a realy small tide and an easterly breeze blowing which normaly does not help the fishing. But fishing being fishing the rule a reason book went out the window and they had a brilliant day, this is what makes my job interesting and keeps a challange up for the anglers. As I always say every day is different in the fishing world.Lots of plaice were caught up to 7Ib including two six pounders and 5Ib plusssers along with 4 to 5 pounders.Steve Wells caught 12 including several personal bests and he put back the six pounder he caught.Roger Buttle also had a six pounder along with 4 to 5Ib fish. But the biggest was caught by Dave Metcalf a thumping 7Ib plaice which is Daves personal best.Dave is pictured with his big spotty.Kevin chipped in with some 3 to 4Ib plaice. The successful bait on the day was ragworm and Ammo black lug cocktail tipped with a squid strip.

Report on-board Silver Spray II
The neap tides have fished well on some of the inshore wrecks south of Poole. It has not been uncommon to see 20 – 30 congers in one session along with plenty of good sized tope on the slack water. One such day saw 18 snakes and 16 tope brought to the side of the boat in just a few hours along with a nice Pollack for one of our younger anglers Nicolas Barlow.

Mackerel are as plentiful as ever this year with scad and garfish falling to the feathers as well. Using the mackerel for bait the grounds at Dancing Ledge and in Poole Bay have provided excellent reef fishing. With most of the bream moving to the offshore wrecks for the autumn it gives the hard fighting rays a chance to get to the baits. We have seen all 5 main species of ray with blondes and undulates being the most abundant.
Bassing is well under way now with double figure fish not uncommon on a spring tide. One trip to the isle of white waited until the last two drifts to give up the goods with 3 fish weighing in at 7lb, 9.5lb and 10lb on live mackerel, proving that persistence does pay off. Freelining is also throwing up some very nice bass with the biggest 10lb 9oz falling to Taylor Anderson

AMMO BAITS COMPETITION - Ian and Michelle from Ammo frozen baits joned Flamer III for the day and brought a variety of baits for the anglers to use in a species competition with the challange being that only the Ammo bait provided could be used.Drift fishing was done first over a reef and produced many red,tub and grey gurnards along with scad, mackerel, pouts, garfish and poor cod. Then a session drifting for flatfish using Ammo black lug tipped with squid strips lured some plaice and dabs with Ian catching a plaice him self. Two sessions at anchor then followed seeing some good size black bream being caught the biggest of 4Ib landed by elder statesman Mick Nunn with the successful bait being small pieces of Ammo mackerel.Dog fish, pollack, pouts,Thornback rayand more gurnards were also caught during the anchor sessions.Ian and Michelle also sponsored some trophies and prizes for the day which I know the lads and me greatly appreciated.Andy Coillings won the competition with 234 points.Best fish award - Mick Nunn 4Ib Black Bream. The crew and Ian are pictured.
