monday 22nd may......
had the boys from halifax on for a 5hr trip and with excellent water clarity we did some drift fishing......in all,the boys took home 14 codling upto 2.5lb,1 decent haddock and some mackerel.
we also caught herring,whiting,coalies,grey gurnard and I hooked 6 pollack in the harbour entrance on a "savage gear:dirty silver" sandeel

The lads today decided to have a go at the Conger and they wasn't disappointed.
Before we got the anchor down we done a bit of drifting catching loads of Whiting to 3lb odd Ling to 12lb and Pollack to 4lb. After about 20 minutes on the anchor the Conger where on the feed They landed 50+ Conger to 52lb, between 4 of them in 3 hours.

saturday 20th may.....
finally the offshore bank decided to produce fish and what quality and amount did it produce!
after consulting with the boys afloat , it was agreed that we had landed in excess of 60 spurdogs with all but a couple over 10lb....the majority were in the 12-14lb bracket with the best at 17lb.The same amount of bull huss were landed with the biggest weighing 14lb....notable catches were Ron who had a double huss hookup with fish of 12.5lb and 8lb on the same line and Mike who landed a 14lb spurdog and an 8lb huss on a short dropper muppet rig.
preferred baits again were whiting or haddock flapper or mackerel head.
10 mackerel were landed along with grey gurnards,haddock,codling and whiting plus huss and spurs.
for the statistics,it is probable that we landed over 700lb of spurdog and around 500lb of bullhuss.....not bad for 6 anglers on a 7hr trip!!!

I had a group of individuals onboard today, they had originally booked to target Cod. But with the Cod thin on the ground we decided to do the same as I did yesterday and fish half the day on the anchor and half the day on the drift.
After a slow start the fish started to feed and the lads caught 30+ Conger to 53lb, 8 Ling to 24lb and 15 Pollack to 17lb before it was time to head home. This is pretty standard fishing off Plymouth at the moment, if you fancy getting in on the action give me a call, text or email.
This Monday to Thursday we will be targeting the inshore reefs, these trips are ideal if you like catching Pollack, Ling, Bass and Cod on light tackle.

First day of the season back on the anchor chasing Conger and Ling. The plan was to fish the first 3 hours on the anchor then go on the drift for Pollack.
7 lads onboard who booked the whole boat, most of them had never see a conger let along caught one.
After about 20 minutes of the baits hitting the sea bed, the rods where bent over with conger and Ling hooked up. One angler Chris landed a cracking Conger of just over 80lb and it was his first time Conger fishing, followed by Colin with a nice fish of 60lb, most of the Conger where 20lb to 40lb. Best Ling tipped the scales at 19lb and on the drift there was plenty of Pollack to 8lb. Now we have set the standard for our Conger fishing this year, last year our best Conger was 86lb and this year I would love to get one over the magical 100lb mark.

The summer has finally arrived here in Plymouth, the weather is starting to settle and the fishing is as good as it gets.
Our Best day so far has been 81 Pollack to 15lb and 10 Ling to 20lb, most days we are catching 50 plus Pollack and Ling a trip.
Best Pollack so far tipped the scales at 17lb 5oz with very good numbers of double figure fish showing too. As for the Ling, most are 15lb to 20lb. We have also had the odd Cod to 6lb and Coalfish to 4lb. This time last year we where catching Cod to 17lb and in good numbers, this year they seem to be a bit late arriving.
We will start to put the anchor down starting from tomorrow, this should result in us catching some very big Ling and Conger.
If you haven't fished onboard Size Matters yet then you are missing out, we try our best to put you on big fish day in and day out.

the wind was kind to us initially and then turned nasty curtailing both trips early.the boys had to work hard for the fish but what was noticeable was the increase in the amount of bull huss(6 each day).we are still just getting the odd mackerel along with loads of doggies,small haddock/codling/whiting/coalies.
the paisley boys fished the jigheads and ragworms in close for the pollack on sunday and we caught 5,biggest at 3lb so it appears that they are not there in any numbers yet.

At the start of May the weather was not the best and this resulted in us losing 8 charters in a row including our first 4 day Guernsey trip of the year. last week was blown off as was the weekend but we managed to get out this week.
We have caught grey and tub gurnard(early),codling to 3lb,some better haddock upto 2.5lb,more huss with the biggest at 8.5lb,whiting,doggies,dabs,small ling....
On tuesday we visited a wreck and even though the water was green,we took plenty of pollack and coalies from it with the best of both at around the 4lb mark.We then came back towards the village to fish for common skate and we caught 2...one at 64 lb and the largest to me at 174lb

Fished with Roger Eaton on Blue Fin this year as I enjoyed the experience so much last year , 3 people fished this year including Ken who is 80 years old with Rogers help and assistance he managed a 168lbs skate we had a total of 17 skate best 199lbs over a 3 day period for a total weight of 1971lbs Thank you Roger for a brilliant experience and would recommend Blue Fin charter to anyone who loves fishing.
