2015 Report (07/09/15 better late than never!) - Been too busy to keep up to date! To summarise the season so far, there has not been a day without good fishing since we started up in April. Big pollock at some of our prime sites, and lots of them. Cod just about everywhere we go. Mackeral came early and will still be around for several months to come. Tope, Spur dog and smooth hound caught frequently this year. Thorn backs in abundance. Going to keep fishing up to 30th November.

After that monster tope yesterday of 67lb 3oz caught by Tony, he starts the day off with a tope of 43lb followed by another big tope length 67 inch, girth 25 inch = 52lb 3oz very good fish. I then got my fishing head on and landed the biggest tope I have ever seen. At one point we had to let over 300ft of rope out on the anchor just to keep up with it. After an epic fight we had it on deck it was a team effort with the net it just about fitted in. It tipped the scales at 72lb in the net, the length was 67 inch and girth was 29 inch = 70lb 4oz!!! The photo does not do the fish justice!! I am made up with the size of the tope we are getting!!! Big thanks to tony for his help.
Now that's the boat record!!!
Cheers

Tony had never caught a tope up until yesterday when he caught a 40lb tope after a bit of guidance (shouting) from me. Today he fished his socks off catching pollack to 6lb,

spurdog to 16lb tope to 26lb and in the last 15 minutes of the trip he hook and landed a monster tope. We weight the tope in the net and it bottomed out my 60lb scales, then I got my other set out that go to 250lb but they hadn't been used for a few years. It tipped the scales at just over 68lb in the net, so we measured the length and girth because it was so big 64 inch length x 29 inch girth = 67lb 3oz!!! New boat record, well done Tony Mcquillan. -

fishing was good this month when the wind allowed us to proceed to sea.cod werent as prolific as june and july but still managed fish to 4.5lb....haddock were very prolific with the best going 4lb.
huss continued to feed with the best at 14.5lb(caught on baited feathers) along with the doggies and some spurdog, best at 16lb.whiting improved in numbers and size with the best at 1.5lb and some pouting around 2lb.
the wreck up north produced the goods and was full of coalies and pollack.
catches were padded out with red and grey gurnards ,dabs, launce
pollack were prolific in the weeds on the headland prefering mackerel belly strip to anything else but "welsh dave" caught 6 on a bass plug in the harbour entrance on the last 30mins of a daytrip!!.....

Took me n the misses off for a check of some marks to see how they were fishing and introduce June to some new species for her. Went off in search of fresh bait and put 30 mackerel into the tub so headed of to anchor up. another deep mark I have been keeping an eye on produced three thornbacks, and grey Gurnard. the tide really picked up so decided to try in the 300ft banks but the wind was holding us against the tide now so went scratching for species. Introduced June to scratching with light weight gear and some 50 codling, 30 haddock and a nice Tub Gurnard. We kept 6 of the largest fish for the table putting the rest back to fight another day before heading in to clean down the boat.

Well the day started slow with only codling haddock and a few mackerel showing up on the first few drops. We decided a move was needed to target some Pollack on lightweight gear with ragworm baited leadheads, this seemed to pick out a few nice specimens but still relatively small so we worked a few marks picking up some hard fighting Pollack, a couple of Cuckoo wrasse and some nice Ballans too. With the tide still running the wrong way we anchored up to try for hounds and rays and wow. we picked up 15 ray with thornback in the majority but some nice spotted and blondes too. Also coming to the boat was a first for Robert and a nice Starry smouth hound going 8lb 10 on the scales. We also lost one nice fish after it made a few heavy runs and then wrapped the anchor warp!!!. Another move saw us back on the Pollack with mixed results but some cracking fighting fish upto 6lb. All these fish were released to fight another day baring a few Codling and Haddock. Check out the club "Silver Lures" for joining details.
