Once again, a good month for tope. Still large numbers being caught. 24th of July, a party from Swansea - John Criddle, landed 21 tope, averaging 35 pound in 2 and a half hours. Also bass are starting to show on local marks. The same party landed a number of bass, largest up to 5 pounds. Mackerel seems to have arrived in quantity, and no doubt the bass are following. Taking bookings for bass trips, with some places still available for spring tides in August, September, October. See gallery for pictures. -

Another good general and deeps day, started the morning off drifting close to north stacks in search of the stunning Cuckoo Wrasse and found them we did, 17 to be exact along with countless Ballans, Pollack and a few Mackeral thrown in..... A few more drifts around the fangs to try for some larger ballans then a quick one for a few more mackeral before heading out past Holyhead deeps to our chosen anchor mark for the day.

Anchors down we didn't have to wait long for the first bit of action, a steady stream of Bull huss around the 10-12lb mark, once the tide eased the Tope came out to play... A few snap off's before we managed to get one on the boat all be it only a small one around 8lb but it was the start of a mad hour, 10 tope, countless Bull huss later and a few more snap off's and was times to call lines in.
Anchors up, hotpot dished out and steamed back in from a good days fishing - PICTURES TO FOLLOW -

Fishing as a whole is doing very well at the moment with the wrecks producing huge numbers of big pollack and caernarfon bay showing loads of Skate and a good few tope....thankfully due to the weather being fairly kind we've only had to spend 2 days around the bay over the last 20 days which showed a few nice smoothies and a good few Pollack to 3.5lb along with some beautiful cuckoo wrasse drifting close to north stacks.
Our dairy is now open for 2017 as ever we already have a few club bookings for wrecking trips so please to avoid disappointment get your dates sorted ASAP!!!
Caernarfon banks tomorrow and then back out to the wrecks to finish the neaps off until Monday........lets pray for the weather -

NEW PHOTO UPLOADED!
Had a good day on the tope with numbers well into double figures. The biggest was 45lb and it gave a big surprise. Halfway to the surface the fish got a new lease of life and darted off at a rate of knots. It took quite a while to get it back under control and when it surfaced after a mighty tussle we saw the teeth marks on its flanks. It had been taken by a shark on it's way up! I've put a photo up on the site and am waiting for a better one from one of the anglers present. The teeth marks are about 9 or 10 inches across and seem to be only the front of the jaws. I am assuming it was a porbeagle but I couldn't swear to it. In nearly 40 years as a charter skipper I've never seen anything like that. I've seen pollock bitten up but not a 45lb tope. What an amazing day.
I should like to reassure any people who may be disturbed by this picture, that sharks only ever attack you when you are wet.
Regards

Hi what a breezy but reef fishing or pollack very good catching them all day . Large mackerel about in some strength very good eating size considering the conditions very good fishing had two dogfish all day. That's what I like to see. Remember offshore wrecking with me £350 with lots of cod better eating than pollack I think. Good fishing Roy ring for a chat if interested
