As I imagine is the case for most of the country the wind this may has been a nightmare. When we've had favourable offshore winds allowing us to get shelter inshore the fishing has been pretty good. Stacks of whiting,some good size fish too for the time of year,nice dabs,a few codling and the ever present dogs. The bigger baits taking plenty of decent Huss into double figures and thornbacks. Still got spaces this bank holiday weekend if you fancy a trip out.

Last Wednesday a lull in the weather allowed us to steam out to the offshore wrecks. Pollack were plentiful with a few coalies and one codling thrown in. The fishing was consistent, even through slack water, with 5 or 6 fish a drift, on most drifts. A great day's fishing in calm seas and fine weather.

Compared to last Friday, the following day didn't quite go to plan. The forecasted weather for Saturday 09th was 6 to 8mph for the day, I rubbed my hands with glee and had visions similar to the day just gone, pollack and spurdog aplenty ... arrived at the marina and had 20mph NW blasting the seas outside the breakwater.
With the new forecast showing a decrease in the wind just in time for a run out to the deeps, it was hoped not all would be lost. waiting for the weather and tide, we managed a few pollack, with doggies, whiting and small huss inshore.
Sadly Holyhead Deep never provided the bounty it had the previous day. It was hard work with a sloppy sea testing our patience & ability to stand up. Still, the lads soldiered on and we managed to land a good few spurdog and huss.

Plenty of whiting,dabs,dogfish keeping everyone busy. A few codling making an appearance and there's plenty of good sized bull huss taking the bigger baits inshore. Still have space through out the week and a few spaces over the weekend if you fancy getting out.

Great day last Friday, 08th May, flat & calm in the morning, plenty of pollack on the drift followed by a mixed bag during the inshore anchor. Risked the big tide on a mark in Holyhead Deep. It was flat calm here too, but it rained. Oh boy did it rain, torrential at times!
We were soaked wet through all afternoon ... but for 90 mins the 5 adventurous anglers were rewarded with 28 spurdogs and with Shakespeare Fishing 12lb Agility rods or less rods in use, some epic battles from 200ft, including the odd double shot.
Even had a go myself, but had to hand my rod over in the end with the inconsiderate quintet calling net far too often, lol

Hi winds still holding up offshore wreck fishing. Loads whiting about inshore should bring spurdogs a bit closer in . Hope weather improves very late this year for better weather. Cod should be on wrecks now will report when able to get there

Looking forward to the first trip of the new season at the start of May, target will be the hounds which should be there in good numbers, crabs have started peeling so that`s always a good sign. Good small eyed rays also about at this time of the year so make sure you bring a pkt of sandeels. Mackerel should start in numbers at the end of the month giving the fishing in general a boost.
